The role of botulinum neurotoxin BoNT-A in the management of oily skin and acne vulgaris: A comprehensive review.

Oily skin and acne vulgaris are prevalent dermatological conditions with a significant impact on both physical and emotional well-being. Despite numerous available treatments, there is a pressing need for effective, long-term solutions. Botulinum Neurotoxin (BoNT-A) has emerged as a potential therapeutic option. However, existing reviews in this area are often limited. This review aims to comprehensively assess the use of BoNT-A in managing oily skin and acne vulgaris while addressing gaps in previous publications. It integrates the latest research, clinical trials, and case studies to provide

The clinical efficacy of a new emulsion for acne and conspicuous facial pore amelioration.

BACKGROUND: Oily skin is a common concern in the field of dermatology due to its association with excessive sebum production, acne, blackheads, and enlarged facial pores. Therefore, it is in great demand to develop effective cosmetics to manage oily skin. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of a novel emulsion containing niacinamide, lens esculenta seed extract, and white willow bark extract for oily skin. METHODS: The efficacy of a novel emulsion was evaluated through a 56-day clinical trial. The clinical efficacy of the product to ameliorate acne, blackheads, and conspicuous faci

Treatment of cradle cap in infants with a new cosmetic non-steroidal gel cream: Clinical, laboratory, and instrumental evaluation.

BACKGROUND: Cradle cap is a benign and self-limiting variant of seborrheic dermatitis (SD) that can be distressing for parents. AIMS: To assess by clinical/laboratory/instrumental evaluation the efficacy/tolerability of a gel cream containing piroctone olamine (antifungal), biosaccharide gum-2 (antifungal), stearyl glycyrrhetinate (anti-inflammatory), and zinc l-pyrrolidone carboxylate (zinc-PCA) (antiseborrheic) in the treatment of mild/ moderate cradle cap. METHODS: In this prospective, open-label trial, 10 infants, with mild/moderate cradle cap enrolled at the Dermatology University Clini

Phytotherapy Perspectives for Treating Fungal Infections, Migraine, Sebhorreic Dermatitis and Hyperpigmentations with the Plants of the Centaureinae Subtribe (Asteraceae).

Sesquiterpene lactones, coumarins, phytoecdysones and phenolic compounds are characteristic of the species from the subtribe Centaureinae (Asteraceae). Many of the compounds isolated from plants of the Centaureinae subtribe have strong pharmacological properties. It may be suggested that these compounds' chemical structure might be an indicator of these pharmacological properties. The aim of the study was to describe recent studies in the field of phytotherapy, focusing on compounds isolated from chosen plants of Centaureinae and the possibilities of using them to treat antifungal infections,

Biotin: overview of the treatment of diseases of cutaneous appendages and of hyperseborrhea.

One of the most common micronutrient deficiencies with cutaneous findings is the vitamin B, also known as biotin, deficiency. Biotin deficiency may be due to congenital lack of biotinidase, or acquired following some conditions that interfere with its absorption, such as inflammatory bowel disorders, a diet too rich in avidin, magnesium deficiency, smoking habit and treatment with broad-spectrum antibiotics, anticonvulsants and sulfonamides. This review highlights the role of biotin in the most common skin disorders such associated with biotin deficiency and an approach to their treatment. Bio

Precipitation of free fatty acids generated by Malassezia - a possible explanation for the positive effects of lithium succinate in seborrhoeic dermatitis.

BACKGROUND: Lithium succinate and gluconate are effective alternative options licensed for the topical treatment of seborrhoeic dermatitis (SD). OBJECTIVE: Their mode of action is not fully elucidated. Minimal inhibitory concentrations against Malassezia (M.) yeasts, which play an important role in SD, are very high. METHODS: An assay based on the hydrolysis of ethyl octanoate enables us to test the hydrolytic activity of reference strains of the species M. globosa, M. sympodialis and M. furfur solely without interference by fungal growth as the free octanoic acid generated has antifungal ac

Improving the management of seborrhoeic dermatitis.

Seborrhoeic dermatitis usually starts at puberty with a peak incidence at 40 years of age and is more common in males. Patients develop symmetrical, well demarcated, dull or yellowish red patches and plaques with overlying adherent, yellowish greasy scales. Seborrhoeic dermatitis has a distinctive distribution in areas rich in sebaceous glands - the scalp, eyebrows, glabella, nasolabial and nasofacial folds, cheeks, peri-auricular skin, pre-sternal and interscapular areas. It may occur in flexures, especially the axillae, groin, anogenital skin, infra-mammary skin and the umbilicus. Some patie

[Lectin histochemistry in psoriasis, lichen planus and keratosis seborrheica].

Using 14 different biotinyl lectins and avidin horseradish peroxidase, we studied the lectin binding patterns in the epidermis of the lesions in 37 cases of psoriasis, 9 cases of lichen planus and 18 cases of keratosis seborrheica. In comparison with normal human skin, epidermal lectin binding patterns in these diseases showed considerable qualitative and quantitative abnormalities, among which some were characteristic. These findings revealed significant changes in keratinocytic glycoconjugates in these diseases, providing clues to their pathogeneses. The detected changes suggest that the mat

Benign pigmented tumor with combined features of seborrheic keratosis and compound nevus.

A thirty-six-year-old woman with an unusual benign pigmented tumor of the ankle is presented. Histopathology of the tumor showed combined features of a seborrheic keratosis and a compound nevus. Combined pigmented tumors should be included in the differential diagnosis of pigmented lesions.

Neuraminidase production by Propionibacterium acnes-strains isolated from patients with acne vulgaris, seborrheic eczema and healthy subjects.

Among cutaneous propionibacteria, synthesis of neuraminidase is highest in strains of the species P, acnes. In the present study, neuraminidase activity was discovered in 90.0% of P. acnes strains isolated from acne lesions compared with 72.7% of strains from normal human skin. Neuraminidase-positive strains from acne lesions, moreover, produced statistically significant higher amounts of the enzyme (X = 727 microunits/ml bacterial suspension) than isolates from normal skin (X - 392 microunits/ml). Whereas the moderate production of neuraminidase by strains from patients with seborrheic eczema
