Improved intra-operative reduction control using a three-dimensional mobile image intensifier - a proximal tibia cadaver study.

This study aimed to analyse whether the precision of a three-dimensional mobile image intensifier (ISO-C 3D) differs from conventional two-dimensional fluoroscopy and high resolution CT scan in a fracture model of the proximal tibia. A depression fracture of the medial plateau (AO/OTA 41-B2.3) was created in 12 formalin-fixed, human cadaver knees. The cartilage of the depression could be positioned above (+1mm, +2mm), below (-1mm, -2mm), or in line with the joint surface. Fluoroscopy, computed tomography (CT) scans, and ISO-C 3D scans (four different protocols: 100 images, 66 images, 50 images

64-detector row computed tomography: an improved tool for evaluating the biliary and pancreatic ducts?

The imaging evaluation of patients with suspected pancreaticobiliary abnormality includes noninvasive imaging modalities such as sonography and MRI. The use of computed tomography (CT) has typically been limited to the evaluation and staging of malignancy affecting the pancreas and biliary tree. With the increasing use of CT in abdominal imaging for patients with a wide variety of indications, biliary and pancreatic abnormalities are being initially identified with increasing frequency on CT. The evolution of CT technology to multi-detector channel row (MDCT) scanners, currently culminating in

Performance analysis of different wavelet feature vectors in quantification of oral precancerous condition.

This paper presents an automatic method for classification of progressive stages of oral precancerous conditions like oral submucous fibrosis (OSF). The classifier used is a three-layered feed-forward neural network and the feature vector, is formed by calculating the wavelet coefficients. Four wavelet decomposition functions, namely GABOR, HAAR, DB2 and DB4 have been used to extract the feature vector set and their performance has been compared. The samples used are transmission electron microscopic (TEM) images of collagen fibers from oral subepithelial region of normal and OSF patients. The

Automated deep learning-based segmentation and volumetric analysis of meningiomas.

INTRODUCTION: Meningiomas are the most common primary intracranial tumors and are frequently monitored over extended periods. Volumetric assessment typically requires manual segmentation, which is time-consuming and associated with interrater variability. This study aimed to develop and validate a deep learning-based model for the automated segmentation of meningiomas and associated peritumoral edema on preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). METHODS: We trained a standard nnU-Net deep learning model on contrast-enhanced T1-weighted and FLAIR MRI scans from 100 patients treated at the

Ternary pattern-driven feature extraction and self-attending GRU for clinical score prediction in Alzheimer's disease.

This article presents a unique deep learning technique to identify AD using data from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). However, deep learning models' lack of interpretability prevents them from being used in clinical settings, where explainability is crucial for winning over medical personnel. In order to diagnose AD, this work proposes a self-attending bidirectional gated recurrent unit (SA-Bi-GRU) method based on explainable AI (XAI) that makes use of a deep learning model. Before the diagnosis process, an integrated Ternary pattern and Fourier-Bessel series expansion based empirical wavele

High-accuracy brain tumor detection method based on deep learning.

Brain tumors remain among the most fatal diseases of the central nervous system, and early diagnosis is vital for improving patient survival outcomes. However, conventional diagnostic approaches relying on manual interpretation of MRI scans by radiologists often suffer from subjectivity, inefficiency, and a high rate of missed diagnoses. To overcome these limitations, this study introduces a systematically optimized deep learning framework designed to achieve real-time performance while preserving high detection accuracy. Specifically, we propose the A2C2f-Mona module, which enhances local and

Dual-path mixture of experts for Alzheimer's diagnosis using volume and entropy MRI features.

BACKGROUND: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder marked by brain atrophy, observable via MRI. Volumetric measures like hippocampal volume are widely used but often miss early microstructural changes. Texture features such as intensity entropy capture tissue heterogeneity and may improve early diagnosis. Combining these orthogonal modalities could yield better biomarkers. NEW METHOD: We propose a Dual-Path Mixture of Experts (DP-MoE) model that integrates volumetric and entropy-based MRI features through two expert subnetworks and a self-attention gating mechani

Foundational model-based geometric consistency monocular depth estimation framework for colonoscopy.

Colonoscopy remains the gold standard for detecting and treating precancerous polyps, yet it lacks real-time three-dimensional feedback, leading to blind spots and missed lesions. Using 3D reconstruction algorithms can alert clinicians to potentially missed areas, thereby improving the quality of colonoscopy examinations. Monocular depth estimation is crucial for achieving 3D reconstruction in colonoscopy. However, the complex image features of the colon surface, such as textures and reflections, along with varying geometric characteristics like deep folds, significantly affect depth distribut

AdaptiveInvolutionNet: Spatially-adaptive involution with channel-wise attention for breast MRI tumor classification.

BACKGROUND: Early and accurate classification of breast tumors from MRI scans is essential for improving patient outcomes. However, a key limitation of conventional deep learning models, such as Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), is their difficulty in capturing the subtle, spatially variant features that are crucial for precise medical image interpretation. OBJECTIVE: To address this limitation, we propose a novel deep learning framework called AdaptiveInvolutionNet (AIN). This hybrid architecture is specifically designed to improve discriminative feature learning for breast tumor classif

Two-Step Semiautomated Classification of Choroidal Metastases on MRI: Orbit Localization via Bounding Boxes Followed by Binary Classification via Evolutionary Strategies.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The choroid of the eye is a rare site for metastatic tumor spread, and as small lesions on the periphery of brain MRI studies, these choroidal metastases are often missed. To improve their detection, we aimed to use artificial intelligence to distinguish between brain MRI scans containing normal orbits and choroidal metastases. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We present a novel hierarchical deep learning framework for sequential cropping and classification on brain MR images to detect choroidal metastases. The key innovation of this approach lies in training an orbit localizati
