Ileovesical fistulae are rare in Crohn's disease and may occur at any age and any stage of the disease. Typical diagnostic pointers are pneumaturia and fecaluria. Cystoscopy and the cystogram are important pointers to the diagnosis. Resection of the intestine and partial resection of the urinary bladder is the treatment of choice and leads to healing, as is demonstrated in the discussion of a case.

Schistosomiasis is a parasitic disease related to water contact in the agricultural fields, affecting millions of people in developing countries in tropical and subtropical parts of Africa, Asia, and South America. We report a case of a 27-year-old male, with intestinal schistosomiasis associated with perianal fistula mimicking Crohn's disease, where the terminal ileum showed a cobblestone appearance, and histopathological biopsy showed schistosoma granuloma.

A 48-year-old patient who had had an aortofemoral reconstruction with a Dacron graft nine years earlier presented with intestinal bleeding. At laparotomy the cause was found to be a fistula between a proximal false aneurysm and the vermiform appendix. The patient recovered after removal of the graft and extraanatomic revascularization associated with appendectomy. Four other similar case reports have been found in the literature.

The current incidence of purulent inflammatory fistulas is 31.1%. An analysis of 36 patients with these fistulas has identified stages of their formation. Anaerobic flora and a primary cause of pelvic and adnexal abscess formation were major determinants of fistula formation.

Three patients with lower urinary tract fistulas after multiple operations and radiation therapy for pelvic cancer were treated with percutaneous ureteral fulguration and nephrostomy tube drainage. Colocolic fistulas are usually a complication of an inflammatory or neoplastic process. Development of these abnormal bowel communications may lead to bacterial overgrowth. We report on a 71-year-old man with a one-year history of recurrent abdominal distension and irregular bowel habits. INTRODUCTION: Enterocutaneous fistula is considered one of the most serious complications in general surgery and is associated with high morbidity and mortality. Although various treatments are reported to have varying success, high-output enterocutaneous fistulas (output over 500 ml/day) continue to be associated with high mortality, and few papers on this topic exist in the literature. The aim of this study is to describe an effective multidisciplinary treatment method for postoperative high-output enterocutaneous fistula and discuss the clinical development of the therapeutic strategy.

A case of squamous cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder with concomitant radionuclide uptake in the colon observed on bone scintigram in a 76-year-old female is presented. Fifty patients affected with Crohn's disease were examined with CT in a 12-month period; 39 of them underwent an intestinal enema and 24 a colon enema. We describe a case of Behçet's syndrome with ileoceal affection of the gastrointestinal track, torpid course evolving to an intermittent febrile syndrome and associated to clinical signs of acute abdomen and latter septic complication due to a fecaloid fistula after surgery. Intra vitam diagnostic procedures revealed a complete laryngo-tracheo-oesophageal cleft in a premature infant with respiratory distress. Anamnesis together with clinical and roentgenological symptoms suggested the diagnosis of oesophageal atresia or oesophago-tracheal fistula. The diagnosis of "oesophago-trachea" was finally confirmed by laryngo-tracheoscopy. The morphologic defect in this case was combined with partial supradiaphragmatic dislocation of the stomach and with intestinal malrotation.

The authors describe three cases of rare fibrotizing mesenteritis in adult patients. In two the aetiological agent was not detected, in the third one it was obviously talcum powder. The disease was manifested as acute abdomen or was detected accidentally. Compression of the visceral vessels caused the development of ischaemic foci with intestinal fistulae.
