The incidence of perilymphatic fistula as cause of sudden hearing loss is not known. We present a case with sudden unilateral hearing loss associated with a positive beta-trace protein test of an epipharyngeal fluid sample. The patient presented with sudden sensorineural hearing loss on the right side. A stapedotomy had been performed nine months previously due to otosclerosis. OBJECTIVE: To inquire into diagnose of congenital malformation of inner ear by CT and MRI.
METHOD: To report one case of CT and MRI image of congenital malformation of inner ear, and review relational documents. Character of CT and MRI of inner ear and membranous labyrinth by MR with 3D-CISS sequence were analysed.
RESULT: The bone structure of inner ear was shown by CT, the memberanous labyrinth was shown by MRI.

OBJECTIVE: To study the characteristics of Meniere's disease in aircrew and its possible influence on space flight.
METHOD: Case studies of Meniere's disease were carried out in 22 pilots.
RESULT: There were vertigo (n=22), tinnitus (n=21), abnormal hearing (n=19) and abnormal vestibular function (n=11) in 22 pilots.
CONCLUSION: Meniere's disease may hazard the flying in aviation or space and flying may further damage the inner ears of patients with Meniere's disease.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of the middle ear status on detection and amplitude of otoacoustic emissions-DPOAE. DPOAE were detected in all healthy ears and their amplitude was between 11.4 and 22.4 dB SPL. Responses at frequencies of 0.5 and 0.75 kHz were not detected in the group of children with Eustachian tube dysfunction in 60% and 27% of ears respectively. Similarities were noted between the nature of inner ear damage produced by loud sounds and by aminoglycoside antibiotics. Since body temperature affects cochlear function and influences the effects of noise on the ear, a similar effect was predicted for the aminoglycoside, kanamycin. The procedures for conducting and interpreting Stapedial Reflex Decay (SRD) are discussed. A modification of currently used procedures and interpretations in which testing is conducted at 750 and 1500 Hz as well as 500, 1000 and 2000 Hz is also discussed. Abnormal decay is defined as fatigue to half-life in less than 6.2 seconds. The SRD test patterns of 464 ears with cochlear lesions and 68 ears with retrocochlear lesions are presented and discussed. The findings are strongly supportive of SRD testing using the proposed procedures and interpretations.

The endolymphatic duct and sac were destroyed by drilling in a cat that was sacrificied after 2 3/4 years. Histological examination of the temporal bones showed marked endolymphatic hydrops; degeneration of the stria vascularis in the upper coil; degeneration of the organ of Corti and spiral ganglion in the upper and middle coils; and degeneration of the macula of the saccule. It is probable that, in some cases at least, the primary pathology of Menière's disease is in the endolymphatic sac.

Five cases of round window membrane rupture were described and under went surgery with gelfoam and/or adipose tissue repair.
