Amplification of c-erbB-2 was at least three times more frequent in breast cancer than in most other types of carcinoma, and was not found in sarcomas or hematological malignancies. Amplification of c-erbB-2 was found in 15 of 86 primary breast cancers and in 3 of 12 secondary breast cancers. Amplification was more common in breast tumors of advanced stage, and in tumors which had metastasized to regional lymph nodes sites. Gene amplification was observed in 21% (4 of 19) of primary tumors which recurred within 3 years of mastectomy and in 6% (2 of 32) of nonrecurrent tumors.

Surgical removal of a primary tumor implant established in a hind limb frequently gives rise to the emergence of macroscopic lymph node metastases. The present work, utilizing various kinds of surgical intervention, sets out to assess the extent to which surgery itself and/or the associated trauma were responsible for the enhancement of secondary tumor growth. A case report of primary osteosarcoma of the bladder is herein presented. A 75-year-old man presented with asymptomatic macrohematuria. Cystoscopic examination revealed a large tumor with a broad base arisen on the anterior wall. Pelvic computed tomographic scan showed multiple calcifications in the tumor itself. Total cystectomy and ileal conduit were performed. Histopathological diagnosis was osteosarcoma. The patient died 10 weeks after surgery. The present report of a malignant metastasizing ameloblastoma and a critical review of literature was undertaken in an attempt to better understand the biological potential and behavior of this rare tumor and thus to facilitate its clinical management. The formation of heterotopic bone tissue in carcinomas of the gastrointestinal tract and/or their metastases is extremely rare. In a 74-year-old female with gastric adenocarcinoma, we observed extensive bone formation within metastases in the skeletal muscles. There are only 7 other cases of heterotopic bone formation in gastric cancer reported in the world literature. We suggest that heterotopic ossification in primary cancers and/or their metastases is probably the result of metaplasia of stromal fibroblasts into osteoblasts.

There were 256 cases of the early stomach cancer resected, from 1967 to '77 in National Hospital-Sapporo. Metastatic dissemination of differentiated cancer was studied in a personal group with the following results. Invasion of cancer to adjacent structures can be encountered even in children with typical increase with age. The lymphatic spread to regional lymph nodes is typical of papillary cancers and in young patients.
