Outer-sphere redox catalysis is key to efficient C-H activation, which has attracted increased interest in organic chemistry. In this account, we describe a Cu(I) -catalyzed oxidative coupling between nitrones and various ethers or amines as an example. Predictable site-selective C-C bond formation was achieved through activation of the C-H bonds in each coupling partner and the migration of a C-N double bond. A fluorescent probe 1 for Hg(2+) based on a rhodamine-coumarin conjugate was designed and synthesized. Probe 1 exhibits high sensitivity and selectivity for sensing Hg(2+), and about a 24-fold increase in fluorescence emission intensity is observed upon binding excess Hg(2+) in 50% water/ethanol buffered at pH 7.24. Tetracycline possesses a great tendency to form complexes with a number of chemical species, particularly with Eu3+ ions. In this work we investigate the europium optical properties of three tetracyclines europium complexes: Metacycline (MTc), Oxytetracycline (OTc), and Chlortetracycline (CTc), in the presence and absence of hydrogen peroxide (HP). The results show that the emission band of EuOTc have enhancement in the presence of hydrogen peroxide. A calibration curve was shown for this complex with the best molar ratio obtained.

Development of a new heterobimetallic Ga(O-iPr)(3)/Yb(OTf)(3)/Schiff base 2d complex for catalytic asymmetric alpha-additions of isocyanides to aldehydes is described. Schiff base 2d derived from o-vanillin was suitable to utilize cationic rare earth metal triflates with good Lewis acidity in bimetallic Schiff base catalysis. The Ga(O-iPr)(3)/Yb(OTf)(3)/Schiff base 2d complex promoted asymmetric alpha-additions of alpha-isocyanoacetamides to aryl, heteroaryl, alkenyl, and alkyl aldehydes in good to excellent enantioselectivity (88-98% ee).

In this work, an electrochemiluminescence (ECL) reagent bis(2,2'-bipyridine)(5,6-epoxy-5,6-dihydro-[1,10]phenanthroline)ruthenium complex (Ru-1) was synthesized, and its electrochemical and ECL properties were characterized. Metal complexes of alkynyl carbenes undergo a [1,3]-bond shift known as a metallotropic shift. Since the discovery of the metallotropic [1,3]-shift of Rh-carbenoid, many more alkynyl carbene complexes with Ti, Cr, Mn, Mo, Ru, W, Re, Pt, and Au have been discovered to show metallotropic shift behavior. This article briefly summarizes the [1,3]-bond shift of alkynyl carbenes and their metal complexes.

While we have previously reported that [1-(Mes2B)-8-(Me3NCH2)-C10H6]+ ([2]+) complexes fluoride ions to form [1-(Mes2FB)-8-(Me3NCH2)-C10H6] (2-F), we now show that this cationic borane also complexes cyanide to form [1-(Mes2(NC)B)-8-(Me3NCH2)-C10H6] (2-CN).
