PURPOSE: To evaluate the efficacy of topical anesthesia with oxybuprocaïne 0.4% without intracameral lidocaïne as an alternative to peribulbar or retrobulbar anesthesia in cataract surgery.

Retrobulbar injection of 1.0-2.5% aminazin solution in terminal painful glaucoma helps avoid enucleation in 83.8% of cases. The analgesic effect of retrobulbar aminazin does not always accurately correlate with its hypotensive action on the intraocular pressure. The mechanism of the drug action is explained by a local (on the ciliary node) manifestation of aminazin neurotropism depressing the eye sensitivity to pain.

Three young and middle-aged patients developed severe bullous eruption after receiving various penicillins. The clinical findings included high fever, prostration, widespread bullous eruption mainly on the head, face, and extremities, targetlike lesions on the palms and soles, and severe erosions in almost all the mucous membranes. Direct and indirect immunofluorescence studies were those of bullous pemphigoid. Complete clearing of the eruption occurred with prednisone therapy. We conclude that drug-induced bullous pemphigoid is a different entity from the classic bullous pemphigoid.

Administration of apparently nontoxic doses of organophosphorus compounds can greatly alter the toxicity of other compounds. These might include other organophosphates, as well as other drug or nondrug xenobiotics. Mechanisms of toxicologic interactions are discussed. Emphasis is placed upon organophosphate inhibition of noncritical tissue esterases and alterations in the metabolism and toxicity of selected ester and amide containing xenobiotics.

Under analysis were results of the treatment of 53 patients with severe ischemic states of lower extremities by the method of transcatheteral intraarterial infusions of drugs. Duration of the treatment was from 7 to 50 days. The composition of the mixtures was chosen individually. The method is found to be sufficiently effective when no radical intervention on the vessels is possible.
