Brachytherapy plays a significant role in the management of cervical cancer, but the clinical significance of brachytherapy in the managemen … gnificance for favorable 5-year LCR (88.9% vs 46.9%, P = 0.064). One patient each developed Grade 2 proctitis, Grade 2 cystitis, and a vaginal ulcer. We conclude that brachytherapy can play a central role in radiation therapy for primary vaginal cancer. Combining EBRT and HDR-ISBT for T2-T3 disease resulted in good local control.

Factors affecting colectomy rate were studied in a retrospective population based series of 1586 patients with ulcerative colitis, in Stockholm County during 1955-84. Five hundred and sixty eight patients (36%) had total colitis at diagnosis, 603 patients (38%) left sided colitis, and 397 patients (25%) proctitis. Individualized tactics of radical surgical treatment, applied in 100 patients, suffering an acute paraproctitis, was presented. Clinical course and results of surgical treatment of 94 patients with complex forms of recurrent acute paraproctitis were analysed. Radical surgical intervention was conducted in 68 patients, of whom in 35--using the pararectal abscess opening with cryptectomy, in 17--with translocation of a distal rectum mucosa, in 16--with a ligature conduction through internal aperture of fistula. One-nine year follow-up of 89 patients is available. After radical intervention the recurrence and postoperative complications had occurred in 19%, after nonradical one--in all the patients.

Ten patients with chronic Yersinia enterocolitica infections are described. The initial diagnosis was made by culture, significant agglutinin titres and indirect immunofluorescence (IF) on biopsies. Of 514 patients hospitalized for miscellaneous hematologic diseases, 31 had severe anal lesions (5 per cent); these complications were most commonly observed in agranulocytosis, acute myeloid leukemia, and medullar aplasia.
