The ultrastructure of myocardial cells was examined from fetal rat hearts during experimentally induced prolonged gestation (GD 23, 24 and 25), and compared to those from term fetuses (GD 22) and newborn animals (N1, N2, N3). An in vivo method of assay for Dermatophitus congolensis in rats is described. The optimal conditions for preparing skin before infection and subsequently harvesting the zoospores from infected skin were investigated. Following a 3-month treatment with 1,2-dimethylhydrazine (DMH) given weekly (sc), outbred Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to partial resection of the transverse colon. After surgery, DMH treatment was continued for 6 months, after which the rats were killed. At autopsy, 63% of the tumors were found in the transverse colon. Sodium polyacrylate (PANa) is a water-soluble, high-molecular compound, and its aqueous solution shows a very high viscosity and stringiness. In the present study, preventive effects of PANa on three kinds of esophageal lesions induced by gastric juice were examined in comparison with those of aceglutamide aluminum and sodium alginate. The influences of PANa on gastric contents were also studied. The preventive effect of PANa given intraesophageally on esophageal lesions induced by the intraesophageal application of gastric juice was more potent than aceglutamide aluminum and sodium alginate.

Genetically hypertensive rats have been found in previous studies to be more susceptible than normotensive rats to the formation of lesions of the inner ear as a result of excess noise.
