The effects of impression management demands on heart rate, self-reported social anxiety, and social competence in undergraduate males.

The effects of self-presentation demands were evaluated through conversational probe (CP) role-play tasks. Participants (N = 29) were required to manage their self-presentations (i.e., the impression they made, in each of two conditions). During high impression management (IM) demand, participants were evaluated on their performance. During Low IM demand, participants evaluated a confederate's performance. The High IM demand condition produced significantly higher heart rate (HR) and self-reported anxiety. HR and self-reported anxiety accounted for a significant amount of the variance in crite

The impact of an emotional self-management skills course on psychosocial functioning and autonomic recovery to stress in middle school children.

Unmanaged emotional reactions to stress not only lead to behavior problems in young people but also create physiological conditions that inhibit learning and potentially increase the risk of disease later in life. For these reasons, the integration of emotional self-management skills training programs has become an increased priority in some schools. In this study, middle school students enrolled in a course in emotional competence skills learned techniques designed to intercept stressful responses during emotionally challenging situations. Behavioral outcomes were assessed using the Achieveme…

Does chemoradiation therapy increase the incidence of complications with self-expanding coated stents in the management of malignant esophageal strictures?

BACKGROUND: Expandable stents offer excellent palliation of malignant dysphagia and digestive-respiratory fistula. There are insufficient data regarding factors that may affect the complication rate of expandable stents, but an association between previous treatment with chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy and stent-related life-threatening complications has been suggested. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed our data on 60 patients; in all of them, a coated Wallstent had been successfully placed for malignant dysphagia and/or digestive-respiratory fistula. Our objective in this study was

[Disseminated intravascular coagulation related to atherosclerosis and aneurysm of aorta: successful management with subcutaneous self injection of heparin sodium].

We described here a seventy-one year-old male, who had repeated disseminated intravascular coagulation related to atherosclerosis and aneurysm of the aorta, and was successfully treated with self-subcutaneous injection of heparin sodium. He developed gingival bleeding and purpura in 1977. He was first treated with prednisolone (30 mg/day) and ACTH-Z under the diagnosis of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura associated with chronic thyroiditis, since platelet count (0.2 x 10(4)/microliters) was markedly decreased and megakaryocytes in the bone marrow were increased. By the treatment, platelet c

Davos@home: Integrating Objective Home Monitoring into eHealth Self-management Support After Alpine Altitude Climate Treatment for Severe Asthma.

BACKGROUND: Severe asthma imposes substantial burden, and many patients remain uncontrolled despite guideline-based therapy. Alpine Altitude Climate Treatment (AACT) improves asthma control and quality of life, yet benefits often attenuate after returning home. eHealth-supported self-management may help sustain AACT gains and prevent post-rehabilitation relapse, though the added value of objective home monitoring devices remains unclear. METHODS: In this 12-month pragmatic trial, adults with severe asthma completing AACT in Davos were randomised to eHealth self-management support with or with…
