Metals and metalloids are persistent environmental pollutants with the potential for bioaccumulation, posing significant health risks, including genotoxicity. These contaminants are prevalent in industrial and agricultural runoff. This study utilizes Trachemys dorbigni, an aquatic reptile, as a bioindicator to assess environmental contamination by metals and metalloids in both rural and urban settings in Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. PURPOSE: This study aimed to explore relationships between whole blood copper (Cu), zinc (Zn) and Cu/Zn ratio and cardiac dysfunction in patients with septic shock.

The mineralogic examinations of intervertebral disc and cartilages of facet joints, taken from corps of the accidents victims, from the level L4-L5, were performed. Oubain sensitive and insensitive adenosine triphosphatase showed decrease in their activities in the polymorphonuclear leukocytes of obese patients while the activity of acetylcholinesterase was found to be increased significantly. The contents of sodium, potassium and magnesium were found to be significantly decreased in polymorphonuclear leukocytes of obese patients.
