DESIGN: BCG vaccine was given to three g … ale pre-term infants of lower GA (<33 weeks) are less likely to develop BCG scar and a reactive PPD tuberculin test after BCG vaccination. These findings do not support routine BCG vaccination at birth of pre-term neonates of GA <33 weeks. Studies including larger groups of infants are needed to confirm these findings.

The migration of peritoneal exudate cells (PEC) from rats with delayed skin reactivity to diphtheria toxoid (DT) and tuberculin (PPD) was inhibited in the presence of antigen. Three days after an intravenous injection of 2.5 mg of DT there was no inhibition with DT. Seven and 28 days later migration was inhibited but less than in sensitized controls. In this cross-sectional study of 284 children and adolescents with clinically or radiologically suspected tuberculosis in a low-endemic country, the QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus assay specificity, sensitivity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value were 91.5%, 87.3%, 86.4%, and 91.2%, respectively. The specificity was higher than that observed in tuberculin skin tests performed simultaneously, but similar to previous-generation interferon-gamma release assays.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate results of procedures implemented for systematic investigation of tuberculosis exposures in congregate settings.

Twelve women with iron-deficiency anemia due to chronic loss of blood, but free from any other pathology that might alter the immune response, were studied.
