Unusual presentations of Comamonas kerstersii infection.

The association of Comamonas kerstersii with peritonitis resulting from the presence of perforated appendix has previously been described by our research team. In the present study, we describe the isolation of this microorganism from two forms of unusual presentations of C. kerstersii infection not previously described in the literature: localized intra-abdominal infection (psoas abscess) and pelvic peritonitis.

Comamonas testosteroni meningitis in a homeless man.

We report a case of meningitis caused by Comamonas testosteroni in a 54-year-old, alcoholic, homeless man. He, as a pedestrian, was struck by a car and suffered multiple fractures of the facial bones including the left frontal sinus. Over the course of 2-week hospitalization, he was clinically diagnosed with multiple cerebral and cerebellar infarcts resulting in altered mental status. He was pronounced dead 15 days after the injury. At the time of autopsy, diffuse purulent meningitis was found on gross examination. A swab culture of the brain surface was positive for C. Testosteroni, a saproph

Cometabolic degradation of dichloroethenes by Comamonas testosteroni RF2.

An environmental isolate Comamonas testosteroni strain RF2, which has been found to cometabolize trichloroethene (TCE) in the presence of phenol and sodium lactate as growth substrates, was tested to investigate its capacity for degrading 1,2-cis-dichloroethene (cDCE), 1,2-trans-dichlorothene (tDCE), and 1,1-dichloroethene (1,1DCE). Degradation assays were performed for single DCEs, as well as for a mixture of DCEs with TCE, which resembled contaminated plume in groundwater. RF2 was capable of efficiently removing all three dichloroethenes (DCEs) at the initial aqueous concentrations of 6.01 m

[First identification in Ecuador of Comamonas kerstersii as an infectious agent].

We report the first identification in Ecuador of the microorganism Comamonas kerstersii, a strain isolates from a sample of fluid from the abdominal cavity and identified by the technique of mass spectrometry MALDITOF. It was obtained during the surgical act of a patient with the diagnosis of acute peritonitis, secondary to a perforated appendicitis. This microorganism is considered a rare pathogen. Even though the genus to which it belongs has a wide geographical distribution, this pathogen is considered an opportunistic agent.

Comamonas testosteroni antA encodes an antimonite-translocating P-type ATPase.

Antimony, like arsenic, is a toxic metalloid widely distributed in the environment. Microbial detoxification of antimony has recently been identified. Here we describe a novel bacterial P1B-type antimonite (Sb(III))-translocating ATPase from the antimony-mining bacterium Comamonas testosterone JL40 that confers resistance to Sb(III). In a comparative proteomics analysis of strain JL40, an operon (ant operon) was up-regulated by Sb(III). The ant operon includes three genes, antR, antC and antA. AntR belongs to the ArsR/SmtB family of metalloregulatory proteins that regulates expression of the a

Comamonas testosteroni infection in Taiwan: Reported two cases and literature review.

Comamonas testosteroni is a widely distributed aerobic gram-negative bacillus. Infection by C testosteroni is infrequent, and no such cases have been reported in Taiwan. Here, we would like to present a 54-year-old alcoholic patient from Taiwan, and his left leg was injured during a fishing trip, resulting in left leg cellulitis and C testosteroni bacteremia. The patient's fever subsided after initial treatment with extended-spectrum cephalosporin, whereas his erythematous swelling did not resolve until switched to ciprofloxacin. The second patient is a 73-year-old Taiwanese male with chronic

Complete genome sequencing of Comamonas kerstersii 8943, a causative agent for peritonitis.

Because of poor differentiation among the members of genus Comamonas using phenotypic methods, human infections caused by C. kerstersii are sporadically reported in the literature. Here, we represent the first complete genome sequence of C. kerstersii 8943, which caused peritonitis in a patient with continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD). The complete genome with no gaps was obtained using third-generation Pacific Biosciences (PacBio) RSII sequencing system with single-molecule real-time (SMRT) analysis. Protein-coding genes, rRNAs and tRNAs were predicted. Functional annotations of

Bacteremia due to Comamonas species possibly associated with exposure to tropical fish.

Comamonas species are environmental gram-negative rods that grow forming pink-pigmented colonies. Despite their common occurrence in nature, they rarely cause human infection. We present a case of Comamonas bacteremia that we think may have been related to tropical fish exposure. The patient was treated successfully with levofloxacin.

First report of urinary tract infection caused by Comamonas kerstersii in a goat.

BACKGROUND: Comamonas kerstersii is rarely associated with infections in humans and has never been reported in animals until now. CASE PRESENTATION: Herein, we describe a case of urinary tract infection caused by C. kerstersii in a young goat. A seven-month-old male goat showed lethargy, generalised weakness and anorexia and in the last hours before its death, severe depression, slight abdominal distention, ruminal stasis, and sternal recumbency. Grossly, multifocal haemorrhages in different organs and tissues, subcutaneous oedema and hydrocele, serous fluid with scattered fibrin deposition o

Emergence of IMP-8-Producing Comamonas thiooxydans Causing Urinary Tract Infection in China.

The emergence of carbapenem resistance (CR) caused by hydrolytic enzymes called carbapenemases has become a major concern worldwide. So far, CR genes have been widely detected in various bacteria. However, there is no report of CR gene harboring Comamonas thiooxydans. We first isolated a strain of an IMP-8-producing C. thiooxydans from a patient with urinary tract infection in China. Species identity was determined using MALDI-TOF MS analysis and carbapenemase-encoding genes were detected using PCR. The complete genomic sequence of C. thiooxydans was identified using Illumina Novaseq and Oxfor

Comamonas kerstersii bacteremia in a patient with acute perforated appendicitis: A rare case report.

RATIONALE: Comamonas species are rarely associated with human infections. Recent reports found that Comamonas kerstersii was associated with severe diseases such as abdominal infection and bacteremia. However, C. kerstersii maybe be confused with Comamonas testosteroni using the automatic bacterial identification systems currently available. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 31-year-old man who had onset of left upper abdominal pain developed clinical manifestations of right lower abdominal pain and classic migration of pain at the temperature of 39°C. The positive strain of aerobic and anaerobic bottles o

The Mechanism of Aniline Blue Degradation by Short-Chain Dehydrogenase (SDRz) in Comamonas testosteroni.

Dye wastewater pollution, particularly from persistent and toxic polycyclic organic pollutants, such as aniline blue, poses a significant environmental challenge. Aniline blue, a triphenylmethane dye widely used in the textile, leather, paper, and pharmaceutical industries, is notoriously difficult to treat owing to its complex structure and potential for bioaccumulation. In this study, we explored the capacity of Comamonas testosteroni (CT1) to efficiently degrade aniline blue, focusing on the underlying enzymatic mechanisms and degradation pathways. Through prokaryotic transcriptome analysis

Experience of Comamonas acidovorans keratitis with delayed onset and treatment response in immunocompromised cornea.

PURPOSE: To report 2 cases of Comamonas acidovorans keratitis in immunocompromised cornea. METHODS: A complete review of the medical records of the two cases of Comamonas acidovorans keratitis. RESULTS: We found some similarities in clinical courses of two cases. Both of them showed development of keratitis during the management with corticosteroids, delayed onset, slow response to antibiotics, and relatively less affected corneal epithelium. CONCLUSIONS: Comamonas acidovorans is known as a less virulent organism. However it can cause an indolent infection that responds slowly even to adequ
