We developed and validated a new assay system for porcine relaxin that overcame the drawbacks of RIA by adapting time-resolved fluoroimmunoassay (TR-FIA), which was recently introduced as a non-RIA format. We describe a rapid polarization fluoroimmunoassay for screening for the presence of barbiturates in urine. The single reagent is prepared by pre-mixing antiserum with a fluorescein-labeled barbiturate derivative as tracer. Use of a mixture of two sheep antisera, raised against different barbiturate immunogens, results in an assay with a broad cross-reactivity spectrum for most common barbiturates. Novel direct and indirect competitive fluorescence-linked immunosorbent assays (cFLISA and icFLISA) for detection of ochratoxin A (OTA) were described using CdTe quantum dots (QDs) as fluorescent label. The use of a new immunoassay, time-resolved fluoroimmunoassay (TR-FIA), in the diagnosis of human hydatid disease has been evaluated. This technique, which is based on the labelling of antibodies with europium (Eu), was compared with a well-established method, the enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Of 102 patients with hydatid disease, 97 (95.1%) were positive according to TR-FIA and 83 (81.4%) according to ELISA.
