Volatile compounds of volatile oils and hydrosols: intra-specific comparison in seven Lamiaceae species.

Aromatic plants of the Lamiaceae family are widely recognized as major natural sources of volatile oils (VOs), with broad applications in pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food systems. In contrast, hydrosols (HYDs)-the aqueous co-products of hydrodistillation-have received comparatively less attention, despite growing industrial relevance and the potential to provide distinct, water-compatible aromatic signatures. In the present work, the volatile signatures of VOs and taxon-matched HYDs from seven Lamiaceae species (Lavandula × intermedia, Melissa officinalis, Mentha × piperita, Origanum onites,

Analysis of volatile organic compounds in Irish rapeseed oils.

In recent years, consumer demand for health benefitting, pleasant-tasting rapeseed oil has increased, and so has production. Ireland's climate and agricultural background can support the production of high-quality rapeseed oil. Volatile organic compounds (VOC) can give rise to highly distinctive flavours in rapeseed oils, produced during crop growth and generated during processing. This study performed VOC and sensory evaluation to determine if correlations exist. Samples of Irish rapeseed oils from 6 different producers were analysed. Compounds detected in the oil samples consisted of acids,

Mosquito repellent activity of volatile oils from selected aromatic plants.

Essential oils from fresh leaves of four aromatic plants viz., Ocimum sanctum, Mentha piperita, Eucalyptus globulus and Plectranthus amboinicus were extracted by hydrodistillation. The test solutions were prepared as 20% essential oil in ethanol and positive control as 20% DEET in ethanol. Essential oil blend was prepared as 5% concentration. Nulliparous, 3-5-day-old female adult Aedes aegypti mosquitoes were used for repellency screening as per ICMR protocol. The study showed that the repellency of 20% essential oil of O. sanctum, M. piperita and P. amboinicus were comparable with that of the

[A new case of reticular hyperplasia connected with volatile oils].

An additional case of "reticular hyperplasia" is described. The clinical picture is trimorphic with grouped nodules, spinulosismus-like and parapsoriasiform lesions. Histologically there are dense lymphoreticular, partly eosinophilic infiltrates with leucocytoclastic cell aggregates, which, however, do not resemble mycosis fungoides nor a reticulosis. The causative agent was most likely the external use of remedy for an amputation stump containing ethereal oils, which had been used over decades. Positive provocation tests confirmed the diagnosis.

Effects of different extraction methods on volatile profiles of flaxseed oils.

To investigate the effects of different extraction methods on volatile compounds in flaxseed oil (FSO), we first carried out solvent extraction, cold pressing, and hot pressing treatments of flaxseed [Linum usitatissimum (L.)], then applied the headspace-gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry technology to identify the volatile substance compositions, and established flavor fingerprints of solvent-extracted FSO, cold-pressed FSO, and hot-pressed FSO. In total, 81 volatile compounds were detected, including 27 aldehydes, 14 alcohols, 13 ketones, 9 heterocycles, 8 esters, 5 acids, 4 hydroc

Oxygenated monoterpenes-rich volatile oils as potential antifungal agents for dermatophytes.

Essential oils (EOs) extracted from Lavandula luisieri and Cymbopogon citratus were tested for their antifungal activity against ten clinical isolates of dermatophytes isolated from cases of tinea pedis. Inhibition of conidial germination and antifungal drug/EO combination assay were tested on two ATCC reference strains of Trichophyton rubrum and Trichophyton mentagrophytes. EOs were characterised by high amount of oxygenated monoterpenes in their composition. Strong antifungal activity was observed for the majority of clinical strains, and fungicidal activity was demonstrated. Positive intera

Colorimetric Sensing of Volatile Organic Compounds Produced from Heated Cooking Oils.

Measurement of cooking-associated air pollution indoors is an integral part of exposure monitoring and human health risk assessment. There is a need for easy to use, fast, and economical detection systems to quantify the various emissions from different sources in the home. Addressing this challenge, a colorimetric sensor array (CSA) is reported as a new method to characterize volatile organic compounds produced from cooking, a major contributor to indoor air pollution. The sensor array is composed of pH indicators and aniline dyes from classical spot tests, which enabled molecular recognition

Characterization of the Volatile Components of Essential Oils of Selected Plants in Kenya.

Essential oils are secondary metabolites that plants produce for protection from pests and predators, attraction of pollinators, and seed dispersal. The oils are made up of a mixture of compounds that give a characteristic flavour and odour. Currently, essential oils are receiving great attention in research for their phytochemical and antimicrobial activities. However, there is scanty information on the chemical composition of many plants. This study provides a detailed analysis of the chemical composition of essential oils of ginger, garlic, tick berry, and Mexican marigold in Kenya. The ess

Comparative metabolomics of high-unsaturated fatty acid oils: exploring volatile and nonvolatile metabolite differences in olive, walnut, flaxseed, and camellia oils.

INTRODUCTION: Olive, walnut, flaxseed, and camellia oils are premium edible oils rich in unsaturated fatty acids, yet they exhibit distinct fatty acid profiles: olive and camellia oils are high in monounsaturated fatty acids, while walnut and flaxseed oils are abundant in polyunsaturated fatty acids. Despite their market value and nutritional importance, a systematic comparative metabolomic analysis covering both volatile and non‑volatile compounds under unified conditions has been lacking. METHODS: We performed a comprehensive metabolomic comparison of the four oils using headspace solid‑pha
