The sacrococcygeal region is the most common site for the extragonadal germ cell tumors comprising seminomatous and non-seminomatous tumors. Seminomatous tumors are seminomas, and non-seminomatous tumors comprise mainly teratoma (mature and immature), yolk sac tumor (YST), embryonal carcinoma (EC), and choriocarcinoma. These tumors occur in newborns, infants, and adolescents. Other common sites for extragonadal germ cell tumors are the brain and mediastinum, although they may occur anywhere in the body. These tumors may occur in mixed as well as pure form. So, sectioning from different areas s…

BACKGROUND: Cutaneous plasmacytoma is a very rare manifestation of extramedullary plasmacytoma, with only 32 cases having been reported so far in the last 60 years. Extramedullary plasmacytoma is a plasma cell tumor that involves soft tissues, without any signs of systemic spread of multiple myeloma or bone marrow involvement. The cutaneous lesions usually range in diameter from 1 to 5 cm and can be treated with radiotherapy or surgical excision.
OBJECTIVE AND CONCLUSION: We present a case of a giant cutaneous plasmacytoma of the sacrococcygeal region with a diameter of 12 cm that was treated…

In the world literature is reported about 584 tumors of the sacrococcygeal region, 484 of them are analysed exactly. The symptoms of the various tumors are about the same, pain and nerval irritation were seen in the most cases. Rectal-digital examination mostly leads to diagnosis. Computertomography is of special diagnostic value since some years. Because of the localisation of the tumor therapy often is difficult. Operation is the only way to remove the tumor and should be done so radically as possible. Radiation therapy may induce malignant degeneration. Adjuvant chemotherapy till now is wit…

The results of treatment of 316 patients with chronic pustular lesions of the perineum and sacrococcygeal region are discussed. It is shown that the only radical measure in this category of patients is total excision of the involved tissues and, in combined variants, simultaneous performance of typical operations for rectal fistula or coccygeal pilonidal fistula. In localized and mostly in regional forms of the disease one-stage surgical interventions are expedient. Many-stage operations are indicated in extensive and, less frequently, in regional forms. Postoperative complications occurred in…

INTRODUCTION: Despite the fact that the pilonidal cyst of the sacrococcygeal region is a long-known disease, the mechanism of accumulation or absence of hair in the cyst remains unclear, which affects the accuracy of the name of the disease, as well as understanding of its pathogenesis.
AIM: Aim to perform morphological examination of pilonidal cysts of the sacrococcygeal region, to determine the nature of the cysts, the frequency of hair in the cyst cavity and to determine the causes and mechanism of its accumulation in cysts.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A morphological study of skin areas with …

Skin-covered lesions in the sacrococcygeal region include an unusual array of congenital tumors and malformations. Excluding the easily recognized meningomyelocele, there are over 50 other conditions that occur, many of which seem to be important in linking the disciplines of teratology and oncology. While it is impossible to precisely determine the manner in which these arise, there is suggestive evidence that early structures incorporated within the caudal cell mass of the embryonic tail may play an important role. The present paper reviews the basis for this speculation from both the litera…

Pilonidal sinus disease (PSD) is an acquired pathological illness that typically manifests in the natal cleft of the sacrococcygeal region, but it can rarely occur in other locations, including the penis. We report a 30-year-old circumcised man with a painless, slowly enlarging penile shaft mass. Excision under local anesthesia revealed a hair-containing sinus with chronic granulomatous inflammation on histology, confirming pilonidal disease. Recovery was uneventful. Although uncommon, penile pilonidal sinus should be considered in the differential diagnosis of chronic penile lesions. Histopat…
