Transurethral resection syndrome after transurethral resection of bladder tumours.

The transurethral resection syndrome has not previously been described after bladder surgery. This article reports four patients who developed signs of this syndrome after transurethral resection of bladder tumours (TURB). Symptoms included abdominal pain, arterial hypotension, nausea and vomiting. There was evidence in all cases that the cause was absorption of irrigating fluid by the extravascular route. Fluid absorption was detected by ethanol in two patients and the urologist noted a perforation during the third operation. The most complicated clinical course occurred in the case where the

Transurethral resection of bladder tumour (TURBT).

The goals of transurethral resection of bladder tumour (TURBT) are to identify and eradicate visualized bladder tumour if technically safe and feasible and to obtain a specimen of satisfactory quality to enable accurate histological diagnosis. In the setting of high grade bladder tumour this generally entails the inclusion of detrusor muscle and assessment for the presence of associated carcinoma in situ (CIS), lymphovascular involvement or any variant form of bladder cancer. This will assist in determining risk stratification and prognostication of the bladder cancer and guides further treatm

[Transurethral resection of bladder tumors (TURBT)].

Transurethral resection of bladder tumors (TURBT) is the standard of care for the diagnostics and primary treatment of bladder tumors. These are removed by fragmentation using loop diathermy. The resection area is coagulated for hemostasis. An important aspect is always a complete resection with an adequate amount of detrusor muscle in the specimen. Postoperative intravesical instillation of single-shot chemotherapy has been proven to reduce recurrence rates. Methods for improved tumor visualization (particularly photodynamic diagnostics) are used to enhance tumor detection rates particularly

[Transurethral resection in bladder tumors].

The experience gained in the course of 127 transurethral resections of bladder tumours are described. After discussing the indications and the technique the authors present their own results. The advantages of transurethral resection are emphasized: reduced operational stress, early mobilization, quick removal of the catheter, few postoperative complications, low cost of nursing. Therefore the operation is given preference mainly in the treatment of elderly patients with bladder tumour.

[Bladder neck strictures following transurethral resection--limits of transurethral therapy].

Primary strictures of the vesical cervix probably do not occur more frequently following TUR than after transvesical adenomectomy, but, unlike the latter, they are in greater danger of recidivation under continued transurethral therapy. There is clearly a striking disposition with small primary adenomas. Our own patients are taken as the basis for some thoughts on a few aetiologically effective TUR-specific risk factors and therapeutic conclusions.

Transurethral resection of a giant bladder leiomyoma.

BACKGROUND: Bladder leiomyomas are benign neoplasms of the bladder. Giant bladder leiomyomas are rare and conventionally treated by partial cystectomy. CASE PRESENTATION: We present the case of a 51-year-old woman diagnosed with a bladder leiomyoma measuring 8.0 cm in diameter. The tumor was successfully removed through transurethral resection of bladder tumors (TURBT), which was completely recorded on video. CONCLUSION: This case underscores the successful removal of a giant bladder leiomyoma by TURBT, resulting in a good prognosis. It highlights the potential for minimally invasive managem

Transurethral en bloc resection of bladder tumors.

PURPOSE: Transurethral en bloc resection of bladder tumors is desirable for evaluating the pathological depth of bladder tumors in resected specimens. The safety, technique and effectiveness of en bloc resection of bladder tumors was investigated using a holmium laser or knife electrode. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 35 patients with transitional cell carcinoma of various sizes underwent transurethral en bloc resection with the muscle layer by holmium laser or knife electrode. The holmium laser was used for tumors at the bladder neck, as in prostate resection, while tumors at the bladder

Extraperitoneal bladder perforation secondary to transurethral resection of bladder tumor.

Transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) is one possible treatment approach for bladder tumors. Bladder wall perforation is one potential complication of TURBT. Signs of perforation include abdominal distension, the inability to distend the bladder, and the low retrieval of irrigation fluids. Peritonitis may occur if a perforation diagnosis is delayed. Early detection and diagnosis are crucial for the prevention of severe complications, such as peritonitis and sepsis. Here, we describe a case of a 69-year-old male with a bladder rupture secondary to TURBT.

[Transurethral resection of bladder tumors: management of complications].

As a frequent endourological procedure, transurethral resection of bladder tumors (TURB) represents a major field of activity for urological surgeons. Although TURB represents an endoscopic training procedure for urology residents, there are clear requirements for the quality of the surgical procedure as such. The knowledge of possible complications and their management are essential for urologists active in the clinical field. Bleeding complications, bladder perforation, infections and injuries to the ureteral orifice are the most frequently observed complications. This article summarizes the

Vesicoureteral reflux following transurethral resection of bladder tumors.

Vesicoureteral reflux after transurethral resection of bladder tumors is a significant complication (19 per cent incidence in the present series). Although most patients with such reflux suffer no apparent ill effects renal destruction occurs in some. Other implications are discussed and the obligation for recognition of the reflux when it exists is emphasized. A simple technique for routine diagnosis is suggested.

[Technique of bladder catheterization after transurethral prostatic resection].

The obstacle that represents the bladder neck posterior lip after a prostate transuretral resection is, sometimes, the cause of sugtrigonal perforations when a bladder catheterization is performed after the surgery. We explain an easy procedure that allows a safe catheterization, reducing the risk of complications added to those of the surgery.

[Transurethral resection of bladder neck in female patients with neurogenic bladder].

Transurethral resection of the bladder neck was performed in 6 female patients with neurogenic bladders who presented with a large volume of residual urine and bladder neck obstruction on voiding cystourethrography without detrusor hyperreflexia on cystometry. In 4 of the patients, transurethral sphincterotomy was performed concomitantly. Five of the patients demonstrated significant improvement in bladder emptying and 4 did not need self-catheterization. No complications of the operation were observed.

Outcomes of Second Resection Following Conventional Initial Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumors.

OBJECTIVES: To determine the outcomes of the second transurethral resection of bladder tumors. METHODS: Patients with bladder cancer who accepted both initial and second resections in our center from January 2021 to March 2024 were included. Tumor residue in the second resection and short-term oncological outcomes were determined. Multivariate analysis was performed to identify predictive factors for them. RESULTS: A total of 125 patients were included. Tumor residue and upstaging were confirmed in 15 (12%) and in 1 (0.8%) patient, respectively. A younger age and a longer time (> 6w) to seco

Transurethral resection for muscle-invasive bladder cancer.

The perioperative morbidity of local radical transurethral resection performed in 103 patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer (T2-T3a) was 20%, their mortality 1%. The three- and five-year survivals were 54% and 36%, respectively. Within 5 years after transurethral resection of primary tumours relapses were encountered in 46%, progression in 33% of the cases. The cause of death was tumour in 29% of the patients, and some other disease in 35%. The full thickness transurethral resection combined with adjuvant treatment may be an alternative to cystectomy in selected cases of T2-T3a bladder

Postoperative Care after Transurethral Resection (Transurethral Resection of the Prostate and Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumour): Early Mobilization, Activity Restriction, and Convalescence - A Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), transurethral resection of bladder tumour, and laser-based alternatives (holmium laser enucleation of the prostate, thulium laser enucleation) account for a substantial share of urological procedures worldwide. Patients are routinely advised to restrict physical activity postoperatively to reduce secondary haemorrhage, yet recommendations vary widely, conflate two distinct clinical phases - immediate mobilization (hours to days) and medium-term convalescence (weeks) - and their evidence base has not been systematically examined. [URINARY RETENTION FOLLOWING TRANSURETHRAL RESECTION OF THE BLADDER TUMOR].

We analyzed the incidence and risk factors associated with urinary retention following transurethral resection of the bladder tumors (TURBT). This retrospective study included a total of 218 TURBT cases we experienced from September 2021 to April 2023. Twenty-six patients (12%) experienced urinary retention after the procedure. The use of a thick urethral catheter (20 Fr or larger) post-surgery (p=0.013) was identified as a significant risk factor. Of the 26 patients with urinary retention, 18 were able to recover spontaneous urination, while the remaining 8 required either permanent urethral

Obturator Nerve Block for Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumors.

BACKGROUND: Bladder tumors are identified and treated using a surgical procedure called as transurethral resection of bladder tumors (TUR-BT). During TUR-BT resection, stimulation of the obturator nerve may cause violent adductor muscle spasms. The "obturator reflex," as this disorder is known, generally causes the legs to move inadvertently (leg jerking). Since this condition can cause several complications, it is preferable to avoid it. OBJECTIVE: In this study, we investigated the effectiveness of spinal anesthesia combined with obturator nerve block or general anesthetic without muscle re

Transurethral resection of a bladder leiomyoma: A case report.

Benign mesenchimal tumour of the human bladder is rare. Insulin potentiation therapy mimics malignant tumours both clinically and radiologically. We present a patient we treated with transurethral resection (TUR) only. A 27-year old male patient presented to our clinic with frequency, dysuria and recurrent urinary tract infections. Magnetic resonance (MRI) revealed an endovesical bladder mass of 7 × 8 cm. We performed TUR in the same session for both diagnosis and treatment. The diagnosis was endovesical leiomyoma. Six months to a year after the operation, the MRI did not reveal disease recurr

[Bladder leiomyoma treated by transurethral endoscopic resection].

We report a case of intravesical bladder leiomyoma in a 47-year-old patient presenting with recurrent macroscopic haematuria. The diagnosis was strongly suspected on CT and cystoscopy. Treatment consisted of transurethral resection of the mass. No recurrence has been observed with a follow-up of two years. In the light of this case, the authors discuss the diagnosis and treatment of bladder leiomyoma.
