Sexual health education for adolescents and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities: recommendations for accessible sexual and reproductive health information.

Sexual and reproductive health is an important aspect of human development, but discussions with adolescents and young adults on this topic are often challenging for health-care providers. As a result, many adolescents and young adults do not receive appropriate, comprehensive sexual education, despite recognition from WHO and the UN that access to this education is a human right. Adolescents and young adults with mild to moderate intellectual or developmental disability, or both, are just as likely to be sexually active as are their peers without disability; however, these individuals are les

Access to information about harm and safety in spider fearful and nonfearful individuals: when they were good they were very very good but when they were bad they were horrid.

This study tests two alternative hypotheses about how phobic information is processed in spider fearful and nonfearful individuals: (1) the threat-related cognitive set hypothesis and (2) the dimensions hypothesis. Counter to the traditional cognitive model of fear, the dimensions hypothesis predicts that spider fearful individuals tend to prioritise the harm-safety dimension when evaluating animal stimuli, and the consequent stretching of that evaluative dimension will confer advantage to the accessing of harm information when confronted with phobic stimuli, but conversely safety information

AccES: A Framework for Predicting Building-Level Loss of Accessibility to Essential Services Post-Disasters Based on Publicly Available Information.

Natural hazards significantly disrupt access to essential services, affecting individuals' capacity to withstand and recover from such events. However, existing hazard resilience models often fail to account for the interdependencies among essential services and lack the spatial resolution needed to assess accessibility loss at the building level. This study introduces the Predicting Loss of Access to Essential Services (AccES) framework-a novel, data-driven, and people-centered approach that uses publicly available information to evaluate accessibility following a natural hazard event. The fr

Quantifying and Disclosing the Environmental Footprint of AI in Research: Life Cycle-Informed Framework and Open-Access Calculator Development Study.

BACKGROUND: AI research increasingly depends on energy-intensive computation, yet energy use, greenhouse gas emissions, hardware life cycle burdens, and water consumption are rarely reported in a standardized way. This lack of reproducible environmental accounting limits comparisons across studies and obscures the trade-offs among model performance, infrastructure choices, carbon intensity, and cooling water demand. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to develop and describe an open-access, life cycle-informed AI Environmental Footprint Calculator and propose a minimum reporting dataset for transpare

Survey research on the awareness and usage of accessibility features of information and communication technology devices among patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

We aimed to explore perceptions of digital technology and the usage of information and communication technology (ICT) devices among patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and their caregivers. In October 2023, we held a nationwide webinar titled "ALS Café" and distributed a self-report questionnaire to patients with ALS and caregivers, including family members, which covered topics such as awareness, usage of accessibility features, and current support for the use of ICT devices. Thirty-one patients with ALS and 24 of their caregivers responded (average age: 57.1 ± 10.1). The ALS Fu

Numbat-multiome: inferring copy number variations by combining RNA and chromatin accessibility information from single-cell data.

Aberrant alterations in genome copy number, chromatin accessibility, and transcriptional programs all play pivotal roles in cancer. The Numbat algorithm has been widely adopted to perform copy number variation (CNV) inference from single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) data. Here, we introduce Numbat-multiome that extends the capabilities of Numbat to perform CNV inference from both scRNA-seq and accessible chromatin profiles (through single-cell Assay of Transposase [Tn5]-Accessible Chromatin sequencing [scATAC-seq] data), either separately or in an integrated manner. Our approach unifies dat

Informing equitable access to care: a cross-sectional study of travel burden to primary and rheumatology care for people with rheumatoid arthritis.

BACKGROUND: Achieving equity in access to care is a priority at both national and provincial levels in Canada to address health disparities. However, equitable access remains a challenge due to significantly higher rheumatoid arthritis (RA) prevalence in vast rural areas, whereas the RA care providers are primarily concentrated in the two largest cities. Rural-urban disparities in access may be partially attributed to geographic barriers. It is important to measure travel burden of people with RA for developing targeted interventions and policies to mitigate identified geographic barriers and

Physicians' Perceptions of Information Quality and Access in a New Cross-Institutional Electronic Health Record (EHR) System: Mixed Methods Design.

BACKGROUND: Physicians rely on electronic health record (EHR) systems to make informed decisions and deliver high-quality care. Although the introduction of EHR systems has created significant opportunities for improving patient care, it has also introduced challenges related to information overload and increased cognitive demands. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to assess physicians' perceptions of a newly implemented cross-institutional EHR system regarding (1) the quality, access, and presentation of patient data and (2) the EHR's effectiveness at supporting cooperation and communication with

The association between perceived 15-minute fitness circle accessibility and physical activity in China: the mediating role of informal social support.

BACKGROUND: Differences in physical activity levels partly reflect structural inequalities in access to health opportunities. According to the socio-ecological model theory, physical activity is influenced by multiple factors across individual characteristics, interpersonal relationships, community environments, and policy systems. Among these, the spatial distribution of fitness facilities, as a key component of urban planning, potential to reshape the allocation of community level and thus offers a novel pathway to alleviate health inequities. In recent years, the Chinese government has acti

Addressing health information inequities: making evidence-based clinical content more accessible in low- and middle-income primary care.

Disparity in access to trustworthy health information between high-income and low-income settings remains stark and contributes to global health inequity. The volume of new clinical practice guidelines a healthcare provider needs to digest to deliver up-to-date, evidence-based care is overwhelming, particularly in primary care, where the scope is comprehensive. However, many low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) lack the resources to tailor guidance for their realities. International standards for adaptation or adoption of existing guidelines tend to focus on a single clinical topic and sti
