Overall thirty patients with acute Q-wave myocardial infarction (AMI) were studied. There were ten cases among them of uncomplicated AMI, eight ones of AMI presenting with arrhythmias, 12 patients suffered from AMI complicated by acute left ventricular failure. The phagocytosis of Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) by rat macrophages and the intracellular fate of ingested organisms was investigated using an acridine orange-crystal violet assay. There was a correlation between the ability of organisms to survive in macrophages in vitro and their ability to cause invasive disease. Encapsulated Hib survived and replicated within macrophages, whereas capsule-deficient mutants, although more susceptible to phagocytosis, were killed after ingestion. Differences in lipopolysaccharide also affected the ability of encapsulated Hib to survive in macrophages.

One of the most frequent chromosomal translocations in human beings is 11q/22q, which results in the "partial trisomy of 22q syndrome." A study of the interphase chromatin structure of lymphocytes in healthy subjects, patients with Down's syndrome, and their parents and sibs was carried out by AO labelled fluorometry using our modification of DNP cell thermal denaturation.
