Vitamins, as essential m icronutrients, are vital for numerous cellular functions and play a key role in maintaining hematological parameter s during pregnancy, including erythropoiesis and processes affecting iron status. Iron-Deficient Gestational Anemia (IDGA), the most common clinicopathological condition in obstetrics and highly prevalent in developing countries, significantly contributes to complications such as hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and gestational diabetes. While it is recognized that vitamin deficiencies impact iron metabolism and erythropoiesis, a complete understanding

INTRODUCTION: The Strongyloidae family includes at least fifty species of intestinal nematode worms, and Strongyloides stercoralis is the most prevalent one among humans. As a result of this parasite's complex lifecycle, it can either remain localized in the intestines or disseminate to different organs throughout the body, culminating in hyperinfection in case of immunosuppression. Strongyloidiasis is rarely encountered in the USA, and an associated gastric involvement is uncommon.

The present study describes an unusual case of bilateral sudden hearing loss associated with iron deficiency anemia. Although hematologic disorders such as anemia or leukemia have been reported to be associated with sudden hearing loss, bilateral sudden hearing loss, which was presented as the first manifestation of iron deficiency anemia, has not been reported. A 74-year-old man presented with simultaneous bilateral sudden hearing loss without vertigo. A complete blood count test revealed a hemoglobin level of 6.4 g/dL and a ferritin level of 14.5 mg/mL, indicating iron deficiency anemia. Pos

UNLABELLED: Hiatal hernia may be accompanied by chronic bleeding from erosions and subsequent iron deficiency anemia. This anemia is drug-resistant in 5-10% of patients with hiatal hernia. In this case, the only approach is antireflux surgery for hiatal hernia repair.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A prospective examination of 42 patients with hiatal hernia and concomitant iron deficiency anemia was conducted between 2023 and 2024. To identify latent iron deficiency anemia, patients underwent in-depth laboratory tests. All patients underwent original fundoplication. The results were assessed in 6 and

Iron deficiency anemia is caused by many pathological conditions like chronic kidney disease (CKD), inflammation, malnutrition and gastrointestinal abnormality. Current treatments that are erythropoiesis stimulating agents (ESAs) and iron supplementation are inadequate and often lead to tolerance and/or toxicity. Desidustat, a prolyl hydroxylase (PHD) inhibitor, is clinically used for the treatment of anemia with CKD. In this study, we investigated the effect of desidustat on iron deficiency anemia (IDA). IDA was induced in C57BL6/J mice by iron deficient diet feeding. These mice were then tre

Iron deficiency is the most common nutrient deficiency in the world. Epidemiological data indi- cate that iron deficiency is more prevalent in infants, in preschool-children, and in adolescents. Etiologies of iron deficiency in children include inadequate dietary iron intake, which is the most common cause, as well as increased iron requirements, bleeding, and intestinal iron absorption disorders. Iron deficiency can lead to symptoms related to anemia, may interfere with neuro- development and may cause skin, hair, nail, and gastrointestinal problems. This review focuses on the causes, signs,

A 74-year-old Japanese woman was referred to our hospital for leukocytosis that occurred for the past one year. Oral iron supplementation was started as iron deficiency anemia (IDA), but three months later, physical examination revealed flushing of the skin on her hands. Finally polycythemia vera (PV) with IDA was diagnosed. There have been reports of PV combined with IDA, which can mask diagnosis and delay treatment because of the lack of symptoms and the anemic presentation. Several possibilities for the pathogenesis of IDA associated with PV have been proposed, including the presence of Hel

Iron deficiency (ID) and iron deficiency anemia (IDA) are highly prevalent among women across their life span, especially during the reproductive age. An iron-deficient state has been associated with a number of adverse health consequences, affecting all aspects of the physical and emotional well-being of women. Heavy menstrual bleeding, pregnancy state, and the postpartum period are the major causes of ID/IDA. However, despite the high prevalence and the impact on quality of life, ID/IDA among fertile age women remains underdiagnosed and undertreated. The present Views and Reviews provides an

Introduction: Iron Deficiency Anemia (IDA) is a leading cause of anemia in Inflammatory Bowel disease (IBD). IDA affects quality of life (QoL) and lead to developmental and cognitive abnormalities. Diagnosis of IDA in IBD is complicated as biochemical tests available at present cannot help distinguish between IDA and anemia of chronic disease. Soluble transferrin receptor ferritin index has been gaining popularity as it can diagnose IDA in presence of chronic inflammation. ECCO guidelines recommend a Hb increase of >2 g/dL and a TfS of >30% within 4 weeks as adequate therapeutic response. IV i

Iron deficiency in heart failure is a frequent condition and may be a prerequisite for the development of anemia but not necessarily the two conditions coexist. Iron deficiency in itself independently of the presence of anemia, determines a series of alterations of the cellular processes of our body related to the production of energy in the form of ATP, cell proliferation and DNA synthesis. The causes of iron deficiency are several and among the various, the inflammatory state present in chronic heart failure, combined with the absorption deficit seems to play a predominant role. This review

Iron deficiency anemia is a common cause of anemia that develops when body stores of an iron drop too low to support normal red blood cell (RBC) production. Inadequate dietary iron, impaired iron absorption, bleeding, or loss of body iron in the urine may be the cause. Iron is a key part of red blood cells. Without iron, the blood cannot carry oxygen effectively. Our body normally gets iron through the diet. It also reuses iron from old red blood cells. A little is known about the association between iron deficiency anemia and neutropenia. Here we report a 44-year-old female who presented with

A 19-month-old girl with a history of asthma and atopic dermatitis presented to her pediatrician because of parental concerns of pallor and fatigue. On dietary history, it was discovered that she was a picky eater and consumed 26 oz of homogenous milk daily. Her physical examination was unremarkable aside from pallor, and both her height and weight plotted between the 50th and 75th percentile for age. Therefore, she was investigated for iron deficiency anemia and indeed her blood work was consistent. Despite appropriate iron supplementation and dietary milk restriction, there was no improvemen

Anemia in older adults is a risk factor for numerous negative outcomes. There is no standard definition, but in most studies, anemia is defined as a hemoglobin value <12 g/dL for women and <13 g/dL for men. Absolute iron deficiency anemia is defined as the combination of anemia and the absence of total body iron. Serum ferritin is the most frequently used diagnostic parameter, but its concentration increases with age and in the presence of inflammatory diseases. Other laboratory tests, such as transferrin saturation, soluble transferrin receptor and the soluble transferrin receptor/ferritin in

Anemia is a prevalent disease with multiple possible etiologies and resultant complications. Iron deficiency anemia is a common cause of anemia and is typically due to insufficient intake, poor absorption, or overt or occult blood loss. Distinguishing iron deficiency from other causes of anemia is integral to initiating the appropriate treatment. In addition, identifying the underlying cause of iron deficiency is also necessary to help guide management of these patients. We review the key components to an evidence-based, cost-conscious evaluation of suspected iron deficiency anemia.

The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of iron deficiency among patients with pernicious anemia. We realized a retrospective study from 2000 to 2010 including 55 patients suffering from pernicious anemia who were followed in Reims and Strasbourg university hospitals. Inclusion criteria were histological diagnosis of immune atrophic fundic gastritis and criteria of gastric autoimmuninty, and for which ferritin was measured. Iron deficiency is defined as serum ferritin level <20 μg/L in women and <30 μg/L in men. 45 (81.8%) patients were female. The mean age was 61 ± 17 years (ran

Iron deficiency is one of the most common disorders affecting humans, and iron-deficiency anemia continues to represent a major public health problem worldwide. It is especially common among women of childbearing age because of pregnancy and menstrual blood loss. Additional patient groups include those with other sources of blood loss, malnutrition, or gut malabsorption. Iron-deficiency anemia remains prevalent despite the widespread ability to diagnose the disease and availability of medicinal iron preparations. Therefore, new approaches are needed to effectively manage these patient populati
