Apocrine hidrocystomas are benign cystic tumors resulting from apocrine sweat glands' proliferation. They typically present as solitary, slow-growing nodules at the head and neck, especially in the periorbital cutaneous region. We present a case of periorbital apocrine hidrocystoma in a 22-year-old woman that was treated as chalazion previously. Besides the hallmark histopathological findings of apocrine hidrocystoma, IgG4 plasma cell infiltration of the cystic wall was also found. The ratio of IgG4-to-IgG-positive plasma cells was high, whereas serum IgG4 was within the standard limit. This i

Apocrine carcinoma is a rare tumor of the skin that typically arises in areas rich in apocrine glands, such as axilla and perineum. The main differential diagnosis is a metastasis from a primary apocrine carcinoma of the breast. Several authors have attempted to define morphological and immunohistochemical parameters to differentiate metastasis from primary apocrine carcinoma of the skin, but none of these had been demonstrated to be reliable markers. Here, we report a case of primary apocrine carcinoma of the scrotum that relapsed three times within a few years, without any clinical or radiol

Hidradenitis suppurativa is a chronic inflammation of the apocrine glands. It usually starts at or soon after puberty, and women are more often affected than men. The most affected sites are the axillae; however, other regions rich in apocrine glands may also be affected. Involvement restricted to the inframammary fold alone is rare and to the best of our knowledge there have been no reports of any similar cases. The etiology of this condition has yet to be fully clarified.

Mucinous metaplasia (goblet cell type) is exceptionally rare in the skin. This is the second case of apocrine papillary hidrocystoma with mucinous metaplasia (goblet cell type) and a review of the literature exploring the significance and frequency of mucinous metaplasia with goblet cells in nongenital skin. The patient is an elderly man who presented with a blue-pigmented nodule on the scalp that was clinically suggestive of an atypical nevus. Histologically, the lesion was composed of a simple cyst of cuboidal cells with decapitation secretion and mucinous metaplasia with goblet cells. Papil

BACKGROUND: Apocrine hidrocystomas, also known as apocrine cystadenomas, are bening cystic tumours derived from the secretory portion of apocrine sweat glands.
CLINICAL CASE: A 78-year old female was referred to our division for assesment an asymptomatic translucent, well-defined cystic lesion located on the upper helix. The histological features were consistent with apocrine hidrocystoma coexisting with gouty tophi.
CONCLUSIONS: We report the second case of apocrine hydrocystoma located in the pinna, outside of ear canal and the first case of its association with gouty tophi described. It i

Apocrine hidrocystomas are uncommon cystic proliferations of the apocrine secretory glands. Maxilla is an unexpected involvement site for these tumors. Our study represents the first case of an apocrine hidrocystoma of the maxilla excised by an intraoral (sublabial) approach, being the first to define the radiologic findings of apocrine hidrocystoma on this region. This case is an extremely rare type in terms of the unusual symptomatology, location and size of the tumor. In this article, clinical presentation, surgical findings, histopathological features and treatment of this rare lesion were

Axillary osmidrosis (bromhidrosis) is a distressing condition primarily caused by bacterial degradation of apocrine gland secretions, with eccrine sweat creating a moist environment that promotes bacterial proliferation. Aluminium salt-containing antiperspirants are widely used to reduce sweating by transiently obstructing eccrine sweat ducts, thereby indirectly alleviating malodour. However, their long-term effects on apocrine glands remain poorly understood. We report the case of a 34-year-old woman with a 20-year history of axillary osmidrosis who had used an aluminium chloride-containing a

Apocrine hidrocystoma, also called apocrine cystadenoma, is a benign cystic tumor-like lesion that arises from the proliferation of apocrine glands. Clinically, it usually occurs singly as a unilocular or multilocular, dome-shaped translucent cyst. Histologically, it appears as unilocular or multilocular cysts composed of an inner layer of single or double layer of secretory columnar epithelium with decapitation secretion lying above an outer myoepithelial cell layer. Apocrine hidrocystomas mostly occur within the head and neck region and involvement of genitalia is extremely rare. This paper

Primary cutaneous apocrine carcinoma (PCAC), a subtype of sweat gland carcinoma, is an extremely rare malignant neoplasm. Distinguishing an apocrine carcinoma from a breast carcinoma metastasis is difficult even for a pathologist. Most arise in regions of high apocrine gland density like the axilla, and rarely on the scalp and eyelid, but they can occur elsewhere on the skin. Primary cutaneous apocrine carcinoma of the scalp is a rare malignancy most often reported in the literature as case reports or small case series. The giant form of primary cutaneous apocrine carcinoma in the frontal regi

The hidrocystomas (HCs) are cystic forms of sweat gland resulting from proliferation of the apocrine secretory coil or eccrine duct. Apocrine -HCs are cystic lesions that arise from the apocrine secretory coil, while eccrine -HCs represent retention cysts of the eccrine duct. The commonest site for such lesions is around the eye, and they may also occur on the ears, scalp, chest, shoulders, or feet. However, HCs of the perioral region are uncommon. The differential diagnosis with minor salivary gland cyst or cystic neoplasms often poses a problem in this site. Here we report a rare case of apo

Hidradenitis suppurativa is a chronic, recurrent, debilitating disease that presents with inflamed lesions in the apocrine glands of the body. The most common locations are the axillary, inguinal and anogenital areas. Hidradenitis suppurativa is caused primarily by follicular occlusion with secondary involvement of the apocrine glands. The authors report a case of 47-old-man with an 18-year history of multiple sclerosis complicated by spastic paraparesis, who presented with hidradenitis suppurativa in the inguinal, perineal, and scrotal areas which was treated by wide surgical excision. Axillary apocrine carcinoma may arise from cutaneous adnexal glands or breast tissue, including accessory breast tissue. Accessory breast carcinoma is rare, and apocrine carcinoma represents an uncommon histologic subtype of breast cancer. For accessory breast carcinoma, wide local excision and lymph node dissection is generally recommended. Postoperative therapy, including endocrine therapy, is considered following treatment strategies for breast cancer. We report an extremely rare case of accessory breast apocrine carcinoma (ABAC). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case documen

INTRODUCTION: The classification of malignant sweat gland lesions is complex. Traditionally, cutaneous sweat gland tumors have been classified by either eccrine or apocrine features.
METHODS: A case report of a 33-year-old Hispanic man with a left scalp mass diagnosed as a malignancy of adnexal origin preoperatively is discussed. After presentation at our multidisciplinary tumor board, excision with ipsilateral neck dissection was undertaken.
RESULTS: Final pathology revealed an apocrine hidradenocarcinoma. The classification and behavior of this entity are discussed in this report.

Apocrine carcinoma (AC) is an extremely rare skin appendage tumor, which is located at lower dermal and subcutaneous tissue. We report a case of an anal AC arising from an apocrine adenoma in the anal region, which is only the second case reported in this region. A 71-year-old male presented to clinic with soreness in the anal region for 6 weeks. An excisional biopsy was performed. Histologically, the lesion was poorly circumscribed, infiltrative, and was composed of small to medium sized glands extending to the surgical margins. There were centrally dilated large glands with duct-like opening

Apocrine chromhidrosis is an extremely rare and impressive skin disorder. Primarily after emotional stress patients complain of coloured sweat secretion (black, green, blue or yellow). The deposition of lipofuscin in the apocrine glands may be the cause of this disease, the different colours of sweat being due to various oxidation stages of lipofuscin. We report two patients, one with blue and one with green axillae; the clinical features, histopathology, differential diagnosis, and pathogenesis of apocrine chromhidrosis are discussed.

The pathogenesis of hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) has given rise to controversy about whether the central pathogenetic feature is an apocrine follicular occlusion (with subsequent bacterial infection) or it is a folliculitis with secondary involvement of both apocrine and eccrine sweat glands. Most previous concepts have focused on apocrine gland involvement. A prospective study of 27 consecutive patients (39 biopsies) was performed to investigate the immune-histological findings in early, newly formed lesions. Most of them were examined within 3 days of clinical onset. Histopathological findi

Apocrine chromhidrosis is a very rare, idiopathic disorder of the sweat glands characterized by the secretion of colored sweat. Because hormonal induction increases sweating, the symptoms of apocrine chromhidrosis usually begin after puberty. Although treatment may not be necessary in some cases, capsaicin cream and 20% aluminum chloride hexahydrate solution have been successfully used to treat patients requiring intervention. Here we report four cases with apocrine chromhidrosis. To the best of our knowledge, our patients are the youngest cases reported in the literature.

Sweat gland carcinoma of the vulva is rare and may be classified as being of eccrine, apocrine, or mixed origin. Most reported cases of vulvar sweat gland carcinomas associated with extramammary Paget disease describe a tumor of apocrine origin. We report a case of a vulvar sweat gland carcinoma of eccrine origin associated with Pagetoid extension. A review of the literature and the differential diagnosis are also presented. To our knowledge, this is the second case of vulvar sweat gland carcinoma of eccrine origin associated with extramammary Paget disease.

We describe a rare case of apocrine adenoma of the breast in a 45-year-old man. The patient presented with a tender lump in his left breast that had been present for 6 months. A mammogram identified a 3-mm nodular density in the breast, which was described as a hypoechoic nodule on ultrasound. Microscopic examination of tissue from an excisional biopsy revealed a 3-mm group of benign glands with abundant granular, eosinophilic cytoplasm and apical luminal blebbing, consistent with an apocrine adenoma. After reviewing other reported apocrine adenomas in the literature, we determined that our ca

The histogenesis of hidrocystomas was examined by the use of immunostaining for S-100 protein. In normal sweat glands, S-100 protein was found exclusively in the secretory cells of eccrine glands, whereas this protein was not present in the other parts of eccrine glands or at any levels of the structure of apocrine glands. On the bases of this immunostaining pattern in normal sweat glands, we attempted to correlate the origin of 8 cases of hidrocystoma to the presence of S-100 protein-positive cells. S-100 protein was detected in the cells of one solitary eccrine hidrocystoma, but not in those
