Social Group Memberships and Satisfaction With Social Relationships as Predictors of Changes in 24-Hour Movement Behaviors During the Retirement Transition.

BACKGROUND: Social factors have been shown to be important for physical activity in older adults. The purpose of the present study was to explore the association between (1) social group memberships and satisfaction with social relationships and (2) changes in 24-hour movement behaviors during the retirement transition in adults in Flanders, Belgium. METHODS: All variables were measured at 4 time points spread from preretirement until 1 year after retirement. The 24-hour movement behaviors were assessed with a wrist-worn accelerometer. As an exploratory analysis, cross-sectional correlations

[Practice of Behavioral Activation in Cognitive-behavioral Therapy].

An approach focusing on behavioral activation (BA) was adopted in the cognitive therapy of A. T. Beck, and it came to be considered that BA can play an important role in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for depression. Therefore, in recent years, BA based on clinical behavior analysis has been developed as a new treatment (Martell, et al.). The core characteristics are as follows: 1) focusing attention on context in daily life to promote the behavior control of patients and avoidance of a hatred experience ; 2) breaking the vicious circle; 3) promoting the behavior according to the purpose t

Impulsivity, risky behaviors and accidents in alcohol-dependent patients.

Impulsivity and alcohol drinking are both considered as important predictors of unintentional as well as intentional injuries. However, relationships of impulsivity with risky behaviors and a history of accidents have not been investigated in alcohol dependence. The aim of this study was to analyze relationships between the frequency of risky behaviors and level of behavioral as well as cognitive impulsivity in alcohol-dependent patients. By means of Barratt's Impulsiveness Scale (BIS) and stop-signal task, the levels of cognitive and behavioral impulsivity among 304 alcohol-dependent patients

A Systematic Review of Social Validity Trends in Behavior Analytic Research on Major Neurocognitive Disorder.

Social validity is at the heart of applied behavior analysis, examining the extent to which the goals, interventions, and effects of a given treatment are satisfactory to treatment recipients and relevant stakeholders (Wolf, 1978). While social validity measures are critical to include across all populations, persons with Major Neurocognitive Disorder (MND) (formerly Dementia) (Emmady et al., 2022) warrant heightened attention, given both the increasing population of those living with MND and the progressive nature of the disease (WHO, 2023). The current systematic literature review therefore

Tuning of Kalman filter parameters via genetic algorithm for state-of-charge estimation in battery management system.

In this work, a state-space battery model is derived mathematically to estimate the state-of-charge (SoC) of a battery system. Subsequently, Kalman filter (KF) is applied to predict the dynamical behavior of the battery model. Results show an accurate prediction as the accumulated error, in terms of root-mean-square (RMS), is a very small value. From this work, it is found that different sets of Q and R values (KF's parameters) can be applied for better performance and hence lower RMS error. This is the motivation for the application of a metaheuristic algorithm. Hence, the result is further i

Unit price as a useful metric in analyzing effects of reinforcer magnitude.

In this paper, we applied the behavioral-economic concept of unit price to the study of reinforcer magnitude in an attempt to provide a consistent account of the effects of reinforcer magnitude on behavior. Recent research in the experimental analysis of behavior and in behavioral pharmacology suggests that reinforcer magnitude interacts with the schedule of reinforcement to determine response rate and total consumption. The utility of the unit-price concept thus stems from its ability to quantify this interaction as a cost-benefit ratio (i.e., unit price = characteristics of the schedule of r

Effects of cognitive-behavioral group therapy on recurrent headaches in Iranian culture.

This study investigated effects of applying cognitive-behavioral group therapy on recurrent headaches. Among Shiraz University female students complaining of headaches, 20 patients, each reporting either migraine or tension-type headaches and who met the 1988 International Headache Society diagnosis criteria for migraine and tension-type headaches, formed two groups. Analysis showed cognitive-behavioral group therapy decreased headache index significantly. Therapeutic response patterns on dependent variables were similar for patients with migraines and those with tension-type headaches.

Evaluating the program effects of a radio drama about AIDS in Zambia.

This study describes an approach to the analysis of data that is designed to isolate program effects for evaluations and applies that approach to a program in Zambia designed to disseminate AIDS information. Evidence is considered that a radio drama broadcast for nine months had an impact on knowledge and behavior related to AIDS among Bemba speakers in northern Zambia. Using results from large sample surveys (1,600 men and women), conducted before and after the drama was broadcast, the analyses compare changes in knowledge and behavior in those most likely and least likely to have listened to

Personal causal modeling of affect and eating behaviors in bulimia nervosa: implications for personalized treatment.

BACKGROUND: Affect regulation models suggest high negative and low positive affect may drive binge eating and purging in bulimia nervosa (BN). While ecological momentary assessment (EMA) studies often support these theories, inconsistent outcomes in affect-targeted interventions suggest causal relations vary across individuals. This study applied causal discovery analysis (CDA) to EMA data to characterize such heterogeneity in person-specific causal models for BN. METHODS: EMA data from 118 adult women with BN, collected over 14 days, assessed momentary negative affect, positive affect, binge

The picture exchange communication system.

The Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) was developed as a means to teach children with autism and related developmental disabilities a rapidly acquired, self-initiating, functional communication system. Its theoretical roots combine principles from applied behavior analysis and guidelines established within the field of alternative and augmentative communication. This approach has several potential advantages relative to imitation-based strategies (both vocal and gestural) and symbol selection strategies. The system begins with the exchange of simple icons but rapidly builds "sentenc

Social network characteristics, self-management behavior, and the mediating role of self-efficacy among diabetes patients: a multicenter cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUD: Social isolation (structural social network deficit) is closely linked to poor health outcomes in patients with diabetes. Existing studies often focus on broad isolation or single-dimensional factors, lacking targeted exploration in the Chinese population. OBJECTIVES: To explore the associations between social network characteristics and self-management behavior in patients with diabetes, and assess the mediating role of self-efficacy in this association. METHODS: A multi-center cross-sectional study was used to recruit 2, 358 patients with diabetes. The assessments included socia

Impact of online gambling on youth problem behaviors during COVID-19 periods in South Korea.

This study investigates the impact of online gambling on problem behaviors among South Korean adolescents across three phases of the COVID-19 pandemic: pre-pandemic (2018), early pandemic (2020), and late pandemic (2022). We applied a doubly robust estimation approach that combines propensity score matching with regression analysis using nationally representative survey data from the Korea Problem Gambling Agency. Our findings indicate that online gambling significantly intensified adolescents' problem behaviors in all periods, with a more pronounced effect observed during the late pandemic ph

Altered interactive dynamics of gaze behavior during face-to-face interaction in autistic individuals: a dual eye-tracking study.

BACKGROUND: Previous eye-tracking research on autistic individuals has mostly examined the gaze behavior of one individual in response to social stimuli presented on a computer screen, suggesting that there is atypical gaze behavior. However, it is unknown how these findings translate to the interactive dynamics of gaze behavior during "face-to-face" encounters between two individuals. Only by analyzing the gaze behaviour of both interaction partners is it possible to determine the frequency of actual eye-contact and who initiates or breaks such periods of mutual eye gaze. The knowledge gained

Synergizing the Behavior Change Wheel and a Cocreative Approach to Design a Physical Activity Intervention for Adolescents and Young Adults With Intellectual Disabilities: Development Study.

BACKGROUND: There is a need for physical activity promotion interventions in adolescents and young adults with intellectual disabilities. Current interventions have shown limited effectiveness, which may be attributed to the absence of theory and a population-specific development. Combining a planning model (including theory) and cocreation with the target audience during intervention development could potentially address this gap. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to report the systematic development of the Move it, Move ID! intervention by describing how the 8 different steps of the Behavior Chan
