Temporomandibular joint arthroscopy has been associated with various vascular injuries including haemorrhage, pseudoaneurysm and fistula. We describe the endovascular balloon embolization of a traumatic superficial temporal arteriovenous fistula that complicated TMJ arthroscopy. We conclude that suspected vascular injuries after this procedure should be investigated by arteriography, and that embolization is a safe and effective treatment for superficial temporal artery fistulas.

Arthroscopic and open shoulder surgery have to be combined for a successful surgical therapy of the shoulder joint. A surgeon performing open surgery only or just treating by arthroscopic measurements can not cover the full spectrum of modern shoulder surgery. Isolated diagnostic arthroscopy is rarely indicated. Far more common, diagnostic arthroscopy is combined with an operative procedure both to confirm preoperative assessment of pathology and to uncover associated lesions. The results of arthroscopic stabilisation of chronic anterior posttraumatic dislocations fail to compare with high suc

Hip arthroscopy is infrequently performed in North America. The anatomic constraints of the joint and the lack of equipment specifically designed for this application have contributed to the lack of surgical experience. Because of the potential for significant neurovascular injury, familiarization with precise portal placement is essential. In properly selected patients, hip arthroscopy allows diagnosis of a variety of disorders. The authors believe this technique has a significant role in the treatment of acetabular labral tears, loose bodies, chondral injuries to the joint, and septic arthri

Ankle arthroscopy has rapidly become an important diagnostic and therapeutic procedure. Currently, indications for operative arthroscopy include transchondral talar dome fractures, acute articular fractures with hemarthrosis, posttraumatic synovitis, loose bodies, inflammatory synovitis, degenerative joint disease, and soft tissue impingement. Diagnostic arthroscopy is indicated for the patient with a chronically painful, symptomatic ankle when nonoperative treatment has failed and other measures have failed to produce a diagnosis. Three standard portals are used for routine ankle arthroscopy

Elbow arthroscopy is a useful diagnostic and therapeutic tool for the orthopedic surgeon. In the standard technique, the patient is positioned supine with the arm suspended overhead and an anterolateral portal is used. We have modified this technique by placing the patient in a prone position and using a proximal medial portal. Use of the prone position improves scope mobility, facilitates joint manipulation, and provides more complete intraarticular visualization. This technique simplifies the treatment of a wide variety of elbow pathology, including loose bodies, osteochondritis dissecans, p

The diagnostic value of arthroscopy was evaluated in 148 patients with acute hemarthrosis and/or instability of the knee. The treatment planned after clinical examination was compared with the treatment given after arthroscopy. Seventy-nine per cent of the patients had ligamentous injuries; 59 per cent of tears were combined with other injuries, and 71 per cent were complete ruptures. Stability testing under anesthesia was most inaccurate for the anterior cruciate ligament, with 13 per cent false positive and 30 per cent false negative results. The planned treatment was altered as a consequenc

This paper proposes a modification of the classical position for shoulder arthroscopy. Two changes are proposed to improve visualization, accentuate pathology, and give better access to the inferior one half to one third of the shoulder joint. The direct lateral position is changed to a semilateral position in which the patient is allowed to rotate 30 to 40 degrees posteriorly, thus putting the shoulder joint on a horizontal plane. This allows for more comfortable arthroscopy and instrumentation. Also, if capsulorrhaphy is desired, better penetration of the scapula is possible since the scapul

The results of 241 surgical arthroscopies, including 101 meniscectomies, 49 lateral releases, 35 excisions of loose bodies, and 56 miscellaneous procedures performed over a period of three years, are presented in this preliminary report. Among the advantages of the technique are a shorter hospital stay, rapid rehabilitation, and the absence of an unsightly scar. Very few complications occurred in the series. Although long-term results are not yet available, the average one-and-a-half year follow-up yielded more than 80 percent excellent to good results among this group of patients.

PURPOSE: To determine whether diabetes mellitus is associated with higher systemic and hip-specific complications and to evaluate reoperation rates after hip arthroscopy.
METHODS: Using the TriNetX Research Network and Current Procedural Terminology and International Classification of Diseases codes, we identified diabetic and nondiabetic patients aged 12 to 65 years who underwent hip arthroscopy between 2005 and 2025. Ninety-day systemic complications and 6-month, 1-year, and 3-year hip-specific outcomes were evaluated. Propensity score matching (1:1) was performed on 35 demographic and como

OBJECTIVE: To describe arthroscopic evaluation of the canine hip with the use of needle arthroscopy.
ANIMALS: Dogs undergoing needle arthroscopy of the hip for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes.
METHODS: The dog is sedated or anesthetized, placed in lateral recumbency with the affected hip joint up, and secured to the table. Traction of the limb is used as needed. A needle is inserted into the hip joint at the 12 o'clock position just dorsal to the greater trochanter. The length and size of the needle are dependent on the dog size. The joint is distended with lactated Ringer solution (LRS).

Since its introduction in the 1970s, wrist arthroscopy has evolved from its nascent stages to a mature technology, aiding hand surgeons in achieving clear diagnoses and effective treatments for complex wrist injuries. Wrist arthroscopy shows important effects on the diagnostic and therapeutic value in conditions such as triangular fibrocartilage complex injuries, scapholunate ligament injuries, ganglion cysts, scaphoid fracture nonunion, distal radius fractures, and lunate avascular necrosis. Through systematic arthroscopic evaluation of the wrist, the technique has significantly enhanced the

Hip arthroscopy is commonly performed to treat femoroacetabular impingement syndrome. A post-assisted arthroscopic hip preservation surgery approach provides joint distraction for central-compartment access. Owing to the location, compression of the post in the perineum may cause injuries to the pudendal nerve, perineal soft tissue, or genitourinary system. A postless technique significantly reduces the risk of these complications. Postless arthroscopy uses friction between the patient's torso and the table surface to permit distraction without the post. An air arthrogram, general anesthesia w

Recently, there have been new advances in the arthroscopic approach to small joints of the foot. This is directly related to the improvement of surgical equipment, new techniques, and publications. These improvements led to broadening indications as well as minimizing complications. Several articles recently presented the uses of arthroscopic surgery in the small joints of the foot; however, the use is still relatively limited. Arthroscopic evaluation of the small joints of the foot includes the first metatarsophalangeal, lesser metatarsophalangeal, tarsometatarsal, talonavicular, and calcaneo

Background Nanoscope, given its smaller size, may be safer when establishing dorsal wrist arthroscopy portals compared with the traditional 2.7 mm arthroscope. Case Description Ten fresh frozen cadaver specimens were utilized. Dorsal radiocarpal portals were established with the Nanoscope and calipers were used to measure the distance between the portals and the surrounding anatomical structures. The only structure that was pierced during portal placement was the dorsal sensory branch of the ulnar nerve (DSUN) in one specimen when establishing the 6U portal. Our study did not note any tendon

BACKGROUND: Assessment of a painful or stiff shoulder arthroplasty can be challenging. The cause of pain can sometimes be easily identified. However, some patients have normal levels of inflammatory markers, normal plain films, and no clinical signs to indicate a diagnosis. Indolent organisms may not raise blood marker levels or result in obvious radiologic findings such as loosening. We report the utility of performing arthroscopy in these patients for a diagnostic advantage.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the health records of all patients who underwent diagnostic shoulder arthroscopy
