PURPOSE: This study evaluated the relationship between word reading and symptoms of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in school-age children with and without developmental language disorder (DLD), considering the influence of cognitive-linguistic mechanisms associated with dyslexia (phonological memory) and ADHD (working memory).
METHOD: Community ascertainment and blinded assessments identified 46 confirmed DLD and 76 cases of typical language development from a screening sample of 420 second and third graders. Language, word reading, ADHD symptoms, nonverbal intelligence, work

BACKGROUND: Iron plays an important role in neurodevelopmental functions in the brain. Serum ferritin levels are different in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and tic disorder than in healthy children.
AIM: To explore the current status of iron deficiency in children with neurodevelopmental disorders and its sex and age effects.
METHODS: A total of 1565 children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), 1694 children with tic disorder (TD), 93 children with ASD and 1997 healthy control children were included between January 1, 2020, and December 31, 2021 at

The subject of disabilities that include cognition and adaptability will never cease to be interesting and relevant. The genetic etiology has more weight every day. The relationship with other neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is of clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic importance. The objective was to conduct a review of intellectual development disorder and its implication with ASD and ADHD. From Hippocrates to the present the disorders that affect learning, behavior and socialization skills have been the su

Consecutive admissions to an outpatient child psychiatry clinic diagnosed with oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), or adjustment disorder were assessed for trauma exposure by a structured clinical interview and parent report. Controlling for age, gender, severity of internalizing behavior problems, social competence, family psychopathology, and parent-child relationship quality (assessed by parent report), an ODD diagnosis, with or without comorbid ADHD, was associated with increased likelihood of prior victimization (but not nonvictimization)

Oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) is frequently associated with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) but no clear neurophysiological evidence exists that distinguishes the two groups. Our aim was to identify biomarkers that distinguish children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder combined subtype (ADHD_C) from children with ADHD_C + ODD, by combining the results of quantitative EEG (qEEG) and the Junior Temperament Character Inventory (JTCI). 28 ADHD_C and 22 ADHD_C + ODD children who met the DSMV criteria participated in the study. JTCI and EEG were analyzed. Stability

INTRODUCTION: Children with ADHD often present to pediatric endocrinologists due to growth concerns. Growth hormone stimulation testing (GHST) may be utilized as part of the workup. We evaluate whether children with ADHD and short stature or growth failure are more likely to fail GHST compared to children without ADHD.
METHODS: We retrospectively studied children who underwent GHST as part of evaluation for short stature and/or growth failure and had an intact pituitary over a 16-year period (2002-2018). We performed univariate and logistic regression analyses with stratification by age.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this prospective, observational study was to detect the rate of comorbid attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in a sample of inpatients diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and to identify differences between patients with bipolar disorder with concomitant ADHD and those without concomitant ADHD.
METHOD: Fifty subjects with bipolar disorder (DSM-IV-TR criteria) aged 18 to 65 years were enrolled in the study in Kingston, Ontario, from October 2008 to April 2010, following their admission to an adult inpatient psychiatric unit during an acute relapse. The Mini-Inter

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a condition diagnosed in 5% of children and adolescents. This neurodevelopmental condition causes impaired academic, social, and occupational functioning. Adolescents with ADHD symptoms have lower health-related quality of life and children with ADHD have been described as having difficulties forming positive friendships. Therefore, the aim was to describe how 15-17-year-old adolescents with ADHD experience friendship with peers. A semi-structured interview study was conducted with twelve adolescents about their experiences of friendships. The

OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated the impact of co-occurring substance use disorder (SUD) on attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) treatment patterns and examined clinical outcomes associated with ADHD treatment in adolescents and young adults with both ADHD and SUD.
METHOD: This retrospective cohort study used TriNetX US Collaborative Network data on 1.23 million individuals 15 to 25 years of age who were diagnosed with ADHD from 2007 to 2024. About 23% (n = 288,159) had co-occurring SUD. Prescription patterns for ADHD medications and associated clinical outcomes were analyzed over 1

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to compare children and adolescents with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) to healthy children and adolescents in terms of state and trait empathy and emotion expression recognition skills. The goal was also to determine whether there are changes in emotion recognition and empathy measures in children with ADHD after methylphenidate (MPH) treatment.
METHODS: The research sample consisted of outpatient drug-naive children and adolescents between the age of 8 and 14 years (n = 65) with ADHD according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are often comorbid and share behavioural-cognitive abnormalities in sustained attention. A key question is whether this shared cognitive phenotype is based on common or different underlying pathophysiologies. To elucidate this question, we compared 20 boys with ADHD to 20 age and IQ matched ASD and 20 healthy boys using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during a parametrically modulated vigilance task with a progressively increasing load of sustained attention. ADHD and ASD boys had significantly redu

The current study examined the executive function (EF) deficits and their roles in reading in one hundred and four Cantonese-speaking children with typical development, reading disabilities (RD), ADHD, and comorbid ADHD and RD (ADHD + RD). Children's EF and reading skills were measured. Analysis of variance results showed that all children with disorders manifested deficits in verbal and visuospatial short-term and working memory and behavioral inhibition. Moreover, children with ADHD and ADHD + RD also exhibited deficits in inhibition (IC and BI) and cognitive flexibility. These findings demo

BACKGROUND: In attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), deteriorations of brain gut axis has been shown in previous studies. One area where the most important challenges are seen in ADHD is social functioning. Zonulin is a protein found in the intestinal intraepithelial component; it has been shown that the level of zonulin increases when intestinal permeability is impaired. Changes in intestinal function were shown in ADHD. Zonulin has been shown to be associated with social impairment in children with autism spectrum disorder. In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the relationship

It is well recognized that Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is associated with heightened risk for common psychiatric disorders; early identification and treatment of ADHD may help reduce some of this risk. However, the substantially increased risk of bipolar disorder, psychosis, and schizophrenia (hereafter psychotic disorders) is often overlooked (odds ratios 4.7-8.9). Given how common ADHD is, there is growing pressure for greater involvement of primary care services, especially for less complex forms of ADHD. However, those at highest risk for transition to a psychotic disor

Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is considered one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders of childhood, characterized by inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity. Even though a strict definition of this entity is constantly sought, ADHD is an often redefined and reconceptualized syndrome. Epidemiological studies show large differences in the incidence, pointing out that the effort of actual taxonomic systems to offer objective diagnostic criteria have not yielded substantial results. Bipolar Disorder (BD) with onset in childhood is distinguished from the adult form

One hundred seven preadolescent children who meet criteria for attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) were further diagnosed by structured interview with regard to oppositional defiant disorder, conduct disorder, and overanxious disorder (ANX). The ADHD population was subdivided into those with and without a comorbid ANX, and the two ADHD groups were compared with each other and a control group in terms of teacher ratings, behavioral observations during an academic task, and the Inhibition version of the Continuous Performance Test. The results suggested that ADHD/ANX children may be

Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a disorder characterized by impulsivity, hyperactivity, and inattention. Binge-eating behavior is often impulsive and is the hallmark of the two eating disorders, binge-eating disorder (BED) and bulimia nervosa (BN), both of which are associated with significant health impairment. Bingeing behavior is also seen in the binge purge subtype of anorexia nervosa. Individuals with AN of the binge purge subtypes, BN and BED, have been found to exhibit impulsive behaviors that are often not limited to binge eating alone. There is preliminary evidence
