BACKGROUND: PPA-variant attribution of the clinically overt word-deafness phenotype remains incompletely characterized. Word deafness has been described across PPA phenotypes, but published reports often emphasize nonfluent/agrammatic variant PPA (naPPA); group-level auditory studies have not addressed clinically recognized presentations dominated by difficulty understanding speech. OBJECTIVE: The hearing level is a major point to take into account for managing a patient with an acoustic neuroma. The Gardner-Robertson classification is the most frequently reported as well as the AAO-HNS classification. It combines the use of pure tone audiometry and speech audiometry. As part of a large gerontological study in Göteborg, Sweden, 376 randomly selected men and women born in 1901-1902 underwent pure-tone and speech audiometry at the age of 70 years in 1971-1972. The survivors of the 1901-1902 cohort were tested again at the ages of 75, 79 and 81 years. A second group consisting of 297 men and women born in 1906 was also tested with pure-tone and speech audiometry at the ages of 70 and 75 years. OBJECTIVE: To follow changes in transient evoked and distortion product otoacoustic emissions (TEOAEs, DPOAEs) as they relate to pure-tone audiometry (PTaud) thresholds during the first 2 years of occupational noise exposure.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the presence of tinnitus and tinnitus-related hearing loss in individuals with temporomandibular joint disorders.

Fourteen patients with hereditary motor and sensory neuropathy (HMSN), 12 of Type I and 2 of Type II, were assessed for auditory dysfunction.
