Critically ill patients frequently require multiple concurrent interventions with complex interdependencies, yet existing prediction models treat these as independent events. We developed FIRST-ICU (Forecasting Interventions and Risk Stratification in the ICU), a unified deep learning framework integrating a graph neural network encoder, LSTM, and a novel Intervention Interaction Attention Module (IIAM) for joint prediction of seven ICU interventions. FIRST-ICU was developed using MIMIC-IV (n = 23,926) and externally validated on AmsterdamUMCdb (n = 12,603) without retraining. The Temporal Dec

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The use of deep learning to undertake shape analysis of the complexities of the human head holds great promise. However, there have traditionally been a number of barriers to accurate modelling, especially when operating on both a global and local level.
METHODS: In this work, we will discuss the application of the Swap Disentangled Variational Autoencoder (SD-VAE) with relevance to Crouzon, Apert and Muenke syndromes. The model is trained on a dataset of 3D meshes of healthy and syndromic patients which was increased in size with a novel data augmentation technique

MOTIVATION: Network-based drug repurposing leverages the principle that drug effects propagate through protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks similarly to disease perturbations. Graph-based embedding methods exploit this principle by learning low-dimensional representations that capture the network neighborhood of disease and drug target proteins, enabling similarity-based prioritization of therapeutic candidates. However, existing approaches that learn fixed embeddings from a static graph cannot accommodate perturbations to the graph structure without costly recomputation or retraining, m

OBJECTIVE: To identify blood-based biomarkers and therapeutic targets for Alzheimer's disease (AD) by leveraging single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) data from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and advanced deep learning techniques.
METHODS: Using scRNA-seq data from PBMCs of AD patients and cognitively normal controls, we developed a deep learning framework that integrates autoencoders, classifiers, and discriminators. This approach analyzed gene expression across various immune cell types-including T cells, B cells, NK cells, and monocytes-by combining both differentially express

The two leading causes of chronic kidney disease (CKD) are excessive blood pressure and diabetes. Researchers worldwide utilize the rate of globular filtration and kidney inflammation biomarkers to identify chronic kidney disease that gradually reduces renal function. The mortality rate for CKD is high, and thus, a person with this illness is more likely to pass away at a younger age. Healthcare professionals must diagnose the various illnesses connected to this deadly disease as promptly as possible to lighten the impact of CKD. A quantum machine learning (QML) based technique is presented in

We sought to establish an unsupervised algorithm with a three-dimensional (3D) variational autoencoder model (VAE) for the detection of abnormal extraocular muscles in small datasets of orbital computed tomography (CT) images. 334 CT images of normal orbits and 96 of abnormal orbits diagnosed as thyroid eye disease were used for training and validation; 24 normal and 11 abnormal orbits were used for the test. A 3D VAE was developed and trained. All images were preprocessed to emphasize extraocular muscles and to suppress background noise (e.g., high signal intensity from bones). The optimal cu

We propose a markerless gait anomaly detection system for orthopedic screening. The framework combines MediaPipe-based joint tracking, unsupervised LSTM-autoencoder modeling, and targeted preprocessing to address clinical video noise. Trained only on normal gait, the model detects abnormal patterns in sarcopenia (SA) and Parkinson's disease (PD) patients, achieving detection rates of 97% and 88%, respectively. Our method achieves state-of-the-art performance in sarcopenia detection, surpassing recent sensor-based approaches that require wearable devices or handcrafted features. Furthermore, to

Most of the current blind stereoscopic image quality assessment (SIQA) algorithms cannot show reliable accuracy. One reason is that they do not have the deep architectures and the other reason is that they are designed on the relatively weak biological basis, compared with findings on human visual system (HVS). In this paper, we propose a Deep Edge and COlor Signal INtegrity Evaluator (DECOSINE) based on the whole visual perception route from eyes to the frontal lobe, and especially focus on edge and color signal processing in retinal ganglion cells (RGC) and lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN).

Objective.Low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) is a widely used imaging modality for performing CT examinations with reduced radiation exposure to patients. However, it suffers from increased image noise and artifacts compared to standard-dose imaging, which can hinder its diagnostic efficacy. Deep learning (DL) approaches have proven effective in LDCT denoising; however, they typically require large training datasets, which are difficult to obtain in clinical settings, particularly for denoising tasks. In this paper, a lightweight and versatile DL-based algorithm for chest LDCT denoising is pr

INTRODUCTION: The head-up tilt table test (HUTT) is a lengthy and uncomfortable procedure for patients which often induces fainting. Post-transient loss of consciousness, nausea, vomiting, and pallor may occur. This study aims to develop and evaluate the efficacy of anomaly detection methods based on autoencoding for early prediction of syncope onset, enabling preemptive HUTT termination and thereby avoiding unnecessary discomfort.
METHODS: The four input signals: heart rate (HR), systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), and high frequency normalized RRI (Hfnu_RRI) were

Bladder cancer prognosis is a critical factor in determining optimal treatment strategies. However, the heterogeneity of multi-omics data and the high dimensionality of gene features pose significant challenges for accurate survival prediction. Traditional single-omics or naive integration methods often struggle to capture complex inter-omics relationships and are vulnerable to noise from redundant genes. To address these issues, a novel deep learning framework--AAE-Cox-M, is proposed to integrate mRNA, miRNA, DNA methylation, and CNV data for survival analysis. This method features a two-stag

Emotional interaction is a normal psychological fact in the daily life of humans. Accurate emotion recognition is the background of efficient human decision-making, communication, and interaction. With the evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) and big data, emotion recognition has now become a standard study activity. Textual language is the most standard human emotion carrier. In natural language processing (NLP), textual emotion recognition (TER) has now become a significant area because of its important academic and commercial potential. TER automatically identifies emotional conditions

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a life-threatening and prevalent disease. CKD patients, especially endstage kidney disease (ESKD) patients on hemodialysis, suffer from kidney failures and are unable to remove excessive fluid, causing fluid overload and multiple morbidities including death. Current solutions for fluid overtake monitoring such as ultrasonography and biomarkers assessment are cumbersome, discontinuous, and can only be performed in the clinic. In this paper, we propose SRDA, a latent graph learning powered fluid overload detection system based on Sensor Relation Dual Autoencoder t

Accurate timely estimation of emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) is a prerequisite for designing an effective strategy for reducing O3 and PM2.5 pollution. The satellite-based top-down method can provide near-real-time constraints on emissions; however, its efficiency is largely limited by efforts in dealing with the complex emission-concentration response. Here, we propose a novel machine-learning-based method using a physically informed variational autoencoder (VAE) emission predictor to infer NOx emissions from satellite-retrieved surface NO2 concentrations. The computational burden can be

BACKGROUND: Non-invasive estimation of intracardiac electrograms (EGMs) from body surface potential measurements (BSPMs) could reduce reliance on invasive mapping and enable safer, patient-specific characterization of atrial arrhythmias. Conventional inverse problem formulations, such as Tikhonov regularization, are limited by ill-posedness, sensitivity to anatomical inaccuracies, and low spatial resolution.
OBJECTIVE: In this work, we propose a dual-branch deep learning (DL) architecture based on a variational autoencoder (VAE) to directly reconstruct atrial EGMs from BSPMs.

OBJECTIVE: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a heterogeneous disorder associated with substantial morbidity and mortality, yet management remains largely guided by traditional classifications and risk scores. We aimed to identify distinct AF phenotypes using variational autoencoder (VAE)-based unsupervised learning and to evaluate differences in mortality, healthcare utilization, and treatment patterns across them.
METHODS: Retrospective observational cohort study in MIMIC-IV v3.1, a single-center critical care database, restricted to the 2014 to 2016, 2017 to 2019, and 2020 to 2022 anchor year gro

INTRODUCTION: Biomechanical changes due to aging increase the oxygen consumption of walking by over 30%. When this is coupled with reduced oxygen uptake capacity, the ability to sustain walking becomes compromised. This reduced physical activity and mobility can lead to further physical degeneration and mortality. Unfortunately, the underlying reasons for the increased metabolic cost are still inadequately understood. While motion capture systems can measure signals with high temporal resolution, it is impossible to directly characterize the fluctuation of metabolic cost throughout the gait cy
