speed-induced passive depth stabilization in a biomimetic underwater vehicle with a swim bladder.

A nonlinear mathematical model describing the vertical motion of a biomimetic underwater vehicle equipped with a swim bladder is developed. For a passive bladder that changes its volume under hydrostatic pressure, the system can achieve depth stabilization through a speed-induced mechanism when the lever-arm geometry (relative positions of the swim bladder and lifting surfaces) is favorable; otherwise stabilization is not possible. Using the Routh-Hurwitz criterion, analytical stability conditions are obtained in closed form, revealing a lower onset speed that is set by a simple coupling betwe

Cerebellum-inspired memtransistors enable emergent differentiation for hardware-efficient novelty detection.

Artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms are currently executed using silicon-based hardware, resulting in excessively high energy demand for data centers. Edge computing AI for healthcare, robotics, and autonomous vehicles presents even stricter power and latency constraints, which are unmet by incumbent computing architectures. With vastly superior energy efficiency, biological neuronal networks provide hints towards alternative computational approaches including memory-logic colocation, asynchronous parallelism, and spike-triggered computation. Here, we draw inspiration from the cerebellum t

Bioinspired Adaptive Leg-Claw Enables Robust Perching and Grasping for UAVs.

Conventional unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are limited in their ability to perch and grasp, constraining aerial manipulation and prolonged operation in complex environments. Raptors, however, achieve versatile and robust functions through specialized hindlimb morphologies. Inspired by the owl's limb structure and the bat's roosting behavior, we propose a bioinspired adaptive leg-claw mechanism that enables UAVs to perform robust and versatile perching and grasping. Our design integrates a four-link tibia, tension-driven deformable feet, and symmetrical toes to ensure stable attachment to sur

Passenger ride comfort estimation based on the recurrence plot technique and convolutional neural network.

Ride comfort has become a crucial evaluation metric for autonomous vehicles. Existing studies on passenger comfort state estimation mainly rely on single-source vehicle data and traditional machine learning models for state estimation, which struggle to adequately capture local features in multi-source time-series signals and their nonlinear relationships with subjective perception, resulting in limited classification accuracy. To address this issue, this paper proposes a passenger ride comfort state (discomfort/no-discomfort) estimation method based on the fusion of human-vehicle data. Vehicl

Novel design of a dual-band microstrip antenna array for 6G mmWave applications.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

This paper proposes an innovative microstrip antenna design, which can offer dual-band and dual-circular polarization capability, dedicated to small autonomous aerial vehicles (AAVs)/low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites operation at the K/Ka-band. The design uses arrow-shaped (left) and T-shaped (right) stubs to achieve right-hand and left-hand circular polarization in two frequency bands. By simultaneous excitation of the orthogonal modes [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text]), the resonant frequencies of the antenna can be fine-tuned using these stubs. The stub dimensions allow for individ

Improving the Efficiency of 3D Monocular Object Detection and Tracking for Road and Railway Smart Mobility.

Three-dimensional (3D) real-time object detection and tracking is an important task in the case of autonomous vehicles and road and railway smart mobility, in order to allow them to analyze their environment for navigation and obstacle avoidance purposes. In this paper, we improve the efficiency of 3D monocular object detection by using dataset combination and knowledge distillation, and by creating a lightweight model. Firstly, we combine real and synthetic datasets to increase the diversity and richness of the training data. Then, we use knowledge distillation to transfer the knowledge from

A Robust Road Vanishing Point Detection Adapted to the Real-world Driving Scenes.

Vanishing point (VP) provides extremely useful information related to roads in driving scenes for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous vehicles. Existing VP detection methods for driving scenes still have not achieved sufficiently high accuracy and robustness to apply for real-world driving scenes. This paper proposes a robust motion-based road VP detection method to compensate for the deficiencies. For such purposes, three main processing steps often used in the existing road VP detection methods are carefully examined. Based on the analysis, stable motion detection, stati

Knowing what's coming: Anticipatory audio cues can mitigate motion sickness.

Being able to anticipate upcoming motion is known to potentially mitigate sickness resulting from provocative motion. We investigated whether auditory cues could increase anticipation and subsequently reduce motion sickness. Participants (N = 20) were exposed on a sled on a rail track to two 15-min conditions. Both were identical in terms of motion, being composed of the same repeated 9 m fore-aft displacements, with a semi-random timing of pauses and direction. The auditory cues were either 1) informative on the timing and direction of the upcoming motion, or 2) non-informative. Illness ratin

An Interpretable and Edge Deployable Spatio-Temporal Trajectory Prediction for Autonomous Driving.

Trajectory prediction is a critical component of autonomous driving systems, enabling vehicles to anticipate future motion behaviors and perform safe decision-making in dynamic traffic environments. While recent trajectory forecasting methods achieve state-of-the-art prediction accuracy, many operate as black-box systems and are evaluated primarily on high-end computing platforms, limiting their interpretability and practical deployment feasibility in resource-constrained autonomous driving systems. To address these limitations, this work proposes an interpretable and edge-deployable spatio-te

A computational framework for Kármán gaiting in robotic fish: spatio-temporal perception and CPG-based reinforcement learning.

Navigating in unsteady wake flows, such as Kármán vortex streets, presents a formidable challenge for biomimetic autonomous underwater vehicles. Biological fish achieve this by utilizing their lateral line sensory systems to perceive local flow gradients and adopting an energy-efficient swimming pattern known as the Kármán gait. To translate this biological phenomenon into a practical robotics engineering solution, this paper proposes a fully computational framework focusing on the modeling and simulation of a spatio-temporal sensory system to autonomously generate the Kármán gait. To overcome

SynTrackThinking improves multimodal multi-object tracking for autonomous driving through frequency-aware fusion and temporal contrastive learning.

Multimodal multi-object tracking now constitutes a foundational capability of autonomous driving platforms, allowing intelligent vehicles to perceive and continuously track dynamic agents through the joint exploitation of visual, auditory, and linguistic signals. Nevertheless, the problem remains hindered by two enduring challenges. One lies in the limited effectiveness of multimodal fusion-most notably the neglect of frequency-domain cues when representation learning is confined to spatial processing alone. The other concerns the instability of temporal semantic alignment, a weakness that oft

Comparative performance analysis of U-Net and DeepLabV3+ for semantic segmentation in traffic environments.

Computer vision is an important field of artificial intelligence that enables machines to interpret and understand visual information from images. It is the basis of automated visual understanding in smart systems. Monitoring of streets, recognizing different vehicles and pedestrians, and comprehending the ever-changing traffic conditions for making right decisions are some of the features of modern intelligent traffic systems. It is indispensable for a computer to visually recognize the semantic segmentation (SS) of a scene, as it maps each and every pixel of the image to the categories like

Purinergic receptor antagonism: A viable strategy for the management of autonomic dysreflexia?

The purinergic receptor ligand, ATP, may participate in reflex induced vasoconstriction through sympathetic efferent and sensory afferent mechanisms. However, the role of the purinergic system in contributing to autonomic dysreflexia following spinal cord injury is unclear. The present study investigates the involvement of P2X receptors in contributing to pressor responses during autonomic dysreflexia. Twenty rats were subjected to spinal cord injury and 24 h later hemodynamic responses to colorectal distension were recorded. Animals were randomized to receive intravenous administration of the
