[Axillary artery pseudo-aneurysm secondary to shoulder dislocation in children].

Axillary artery injury following anterior dislocation of the shoulder in children is a rare complication often considered as iatrogenic. We report the case of a pseudo-aneurysm of the axillary artery in a 5-year-old boy that appeared four months after a shoulder dislocation that was reduced in an ambulatory setting. Although this is an uncommon vascular complication, we emphasize the need for short-term and long-term follow-up in these children to avoid missing a pseudo-aneurysm of the axillary artery.

Axillary artery injury as a complication of proximal humerus fractures.

Proximal humerus fractures are common injuries and represent approximately 5% of all fractures. These fractures are infrequently associated with neurovascular injuries. Brachial plexus injuries are uncommon, whereas axillary artery injuries are rare. A review of 19 previously reported cases of axillary artery injury after proximal humerus fracture revealed that 84% occurred in patients older than 50 years, 53% were associated with brachial plexus injury, and 21% resulted in upper extremity amputation. This study describes a case of axillary artery injury after proximal humerus fracture and, on

Axillary artery injuries secondary to anterior dislocation of the shoulder.

We describe a case report of an axillary artery injury after recurrent anterior dislocation of the shoulder. Review of 22 reported cases reveals that 27% are recurrent dislocations, 86% occurred in patients older than 50, 86% of the injuries are in the third part of the axillary artery, and 68% presented with an axillary mass.

Fatal axillary artery injury following anterior dislocation of the shoulder.

A case of longitudinal tearing of the axillary artery is reported following anterior dislocation of the shoulder in an 87-year old woman, resulting in fatal haemorrhage. Atherosclerosis of the axillary artery and a history of previous dislocation of the affected shoulder were predisposing factors.

Synchronous left subclavian and axillary artery aneurysms associated with melorheostosis.

Melorheostosis is a benign, rare congenital disorder of hyperostosis of one or more bones. A case of melorheostosis associated with synchronous left subclavian and axillary artery aneurysms necessitated resection of the aneurysms and replacement with a Gore-Tex interposition graft (W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc., Elkton, Md.) and a reversed saphenous vein graft, respectively. Numerous soft-tissue and vascular anomalies have been noted in patients with melorheostosis, although arterial aneurysms have not been reported previously.

Unusual Vascular Distribution in the Third Segment of the Axillary Artery.

The third segment of the axillary artery (TSAA) is the main vascular supply to the muscles of the upper limb. Numerous studies have reported atypical branching patterns of the TSAA, which can complicate operative interventions involving structures supplied by this segment of the artery. Our current study evaluated a previously undescribed branching pattern in the TSAA, in which the subscapular artery gave rise to an unusual posterior humeral circumflex artery, and a second subscapular artery. In addition, a third variant was found in the origin of the thoracodorsal artery: two collateral horiz

Axillary artery: An unanticipated choice of access in the cath lab!

Ventricular septal defects are increasingly being closed by transcatheter technique, with lesser morbidity and shorter hospital stay compared to open heart surgery. We report a case of embolization of a duct occluder deployed in a posterior muscular septal defect. The rare site of embolization necessitated an unusual approach for retrieval prior to subsequent closure using a double-disc device.

Axillary artery thrombosis in a neonate in utero: a case report.

We describe a neonate of 38-week and 6-day gestation born by lower uterine cesarean section for breech presentation, where it was evident on delivery that there was significant edema of the right arm from the deltoid to the distal tips of the fingers. Doppler flow ultrasound revealed extensive arterial thromboembolus. Intravenous heparin was prescribed for three days at a dose of 27.5 U/kg/h, targeting an activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) of 60-75 seconds, followed by a course of subcutaneous enoxaparin at a dose of 1.8 mg/kg and then 2 mg/kg twice daily, titrated to a factor Xa lev

Bilateral axillary arterial aneurysms in siblings with Marfan syndrome.

Axillary arterial aneurysm associated with Marfan syndrome is an extremely rare and dangerous disease because of its potential risk for rupture and impairment of neurologic function in the upper extremities. Treatment of large axillary aneurysms can be surgically challenging because the axillary artery is anatomically located under the clavicle bones and the brachial plexus runs dorsal to the aneurysm. We report 2 cases of bilateral axillary arterial aneurysms in brothers with Marfan syndrome. Revival of a novel approach and cautious attempts during the procedures are described in both cases.

Usefulness of the axillary artery as vascular access for cardiopulmonary bypass.

AIM: In this paper we report our clinical experience with extended utilization of axillary artery cannulation for cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) and discuss the indications and the results of the procedure in terms of complications and usefulness. METHODS: Between January 1999 and May 2004, 26 patients underwent right axillary artery cannulation for CPB. Fifteen patients presented acute type A aortic dissection and were operated urgently. Axillary cannulation was also used in 11 elective cases: 3 reoperative coronary surgery, 3 valve redo-operations and 5 cases of aortic valve regurgitation+ane

Axillary arterial thrombosis secondary to anterior shoulder dislocation.

We report the case of a 59-year-old male patient who returned to the Hospital with severe pain in the right upper arm, 9 hours after reduction of an anterior dislocation of the right shoulder. A thrombosis of the axillary artery was quickly diagnosed and the rapid treatment allowed revascularisation in the arm without any major consequences.

Endovascular management of unusual aneurysms of the axillary and subclavian arteries.

PURPOSE: Aneurysms of the upper extremity arteries are uncommon and may be difficult to manage with standard surgical techniques. We report the exclusion of three axillary-subclavian aneurysms with covered stents. METHODS AND RESULTS: Palmaz stents were covered with either polytetrafluoroethylene (2 cases) or brachial vein and deployed to exclude pseudoaneurysms in 1 axillary (ruptured) and 2 left subclavian arteries. Two of the patients had advanced cancer and died within 52 days and 3 months of treatment, but their aneurysms were occluded at the time of their death. The repair in the third

Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty of the innominate, subclavian, and axillary arteries.

Percutaneous balloon angioplasty offers an alternative to surgery for the alleviation of symptoms in upper limb arterial disease. This report documents 28 per-femoral dilatation procedures in 27 patients for 33 subclavian, two innominate, and two axillary lesions. Thirty-four stenoses and three occlusions were treated, with multiple dilatations in five patients. Indications for treatment were: arm ischaemia (15 patients); neurological (steal syndrome) symptoms (8); and combined ischaemia plus steal (5). Angioplasty was technically successful in 27 procedures with symptomatic relief in 25 cases

[Pulmonary artery catheterization by the percutaneous approach to the axillary vein].

The choice of venous access can be difficult in patients under intensive care. The axillary vein appeared interesting to evaluate. This prospective study involved 63 punctures carried out in 59 patients during a 16 month period (14 females and 45 males; mean age: 54 +/- 4 yr). 34 patients were tracheostomized and under controlled respiration; some had coagulation abnormalities (8 cases). The other 29 patients were undergoing a preoperative haemodynamic study. Puncture of the axillary vein was carried out with the needle inserted at an angle of 30 degrees to the skin surface and directed parall
