BACKGROUND: Few studies explored the relationship between stasis dermatitis (SD) and allergic contact dermatitis (ACD).
OBJECTIVE: To examine trends, associations, and clinical relevance of ACD in patients referred for patch testing who had a final SD diagnosis.
METHODS: Retrospective analysis from 2001 to 2016 of 38,723 patients from the North American Contact Dermatitis Group.

A case of indolent corneal ulcer in a llama (Llama glama) is described. Diagnostic testing included a complete ophthalmic examination with corneal cytologic and histopathologic examination. Successful management involved grid keratotomy and topical application of neomycin-polymixin-bacitracin and atropine 1% ointments. Weekly follow-up examinations are described until healing was considered complete.

The efficacy of chocolate agar, versus bacitracin, vancomycin, clindamycin, chocolate agar (BVCCA) for the isolation of non-typeable Haemophilus influenzae (NTHi) from nasopharyngeal swabs was determined. BVCCA cultured NTHi from 97.3% of NTHi-positive swabs, compared to 87.1% for chocolate agar. To maximise culture sensitivity, the use of both media is recommended.

Salmonella arizonae 61:1,5, was isolated in pure culture from the eye of a horse with unilateral ulcerative keratitis. The eye responded well to treatment with atropine sulfate and polymyxin B-bacitracin-neomycin ophthalmic ointments. Recent double-blind controlled studies show that the application of a neomycin-bacitracin-polymyxin preparation reduces the incidence of staphylococcal and streptococcal infection of minor skin trauma. Allergic sensitization to neomycin is rare. Systemic side effects occur only with improper massive exposure. Resistant strains have appeared only in "closed populations."
