We report the 11 cases of +8-MDS/MPN associated with Behcet's-like syndrome and compare them with Behcet's disease and Crohn's disease, pool with literature cases for analysis. Data for patients with +8-MDS/MPN and Behçet's-like syndrome were collected from MINHEMON. Eleven patients had Behcet's-like syndrome and +8-MDS/MPN (median age 75 years [IQR 65-87]; M/F ratio 0.8). MDS and Behcet's-like syndrome were diagnosed at the same time (7/11, 64%). By comparison with 63 patients with idiopathic Behcet's disease without associated MDS, those with Behcet's-like syndrome and +8-MDS/MPN were older

Behçet's disease (also known as morbus Behcet or Admantiades-Behcet syndrome) is a chronic vasculitis mainly characterized by recurrent mucocutaneous lesions and sight threatening uveitis. It may also involve joints, vessels of all sizes and the central nervous system. Because of its severe morbidity and considerable mortality early diagnosis and treatment is important. Treatment and prognosis of this disorder have profited considerably in recent years following the introduction of biologic agents. This article summarizes the current state of knowledge and emphasizes the important role of the

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Our objective is to describe the various neurologic manifestations of Behcet's syndrome with special attention to headache syndromes.
RECENT FINDINGS: Most recent studies have focused on data collection to better characterize the relatively rare disorder of neuro-Behcets (NBD). In patients with Behcet's disease (BD) who are experiencing headache, most are primary headache disorders, specifically tension type or migraines. Worsening headache can, however, be a sign of increased Behcets disease activity. Behcet's disease is a chronic, systemic, inflammatory disorder of unknow

UNLABELLED: This study was carried out to determine the characteristics and incidence of hearing loss and vestibular disturbance in Behcet's syndrome with a large number of patients. Sixty-two patients with Behcet's syndrome were included in this study, 34 men and 28 women whose mean age was 33.7 (15-60). Sixty-two healthy normal control subjects (38 male and 24 female) were included. Patient and control groups were questioned about any history of audio-vestibular disturbance and underwent physical and ENT examination and the following audiologic tests: pure tone audiometric test (0.25, 0.5, 1

INTRODUCTION: Budd-Chiari syndrome is a heterogeneous group of disorders characterized by venous drainage obstruction of the liver and is extremely rare. The clinical manifestations are usually ascites, varicose veins and in severe cases - hepatic insufficiency. Behcet's disease is a chronic, idiopathic, inflammatory disease that manifests as obstructive vasculitis and affects a variety of organ systems. Ocular involvement occurs in approximately 70% of the patients, and is a major clinical criterion in the diagnosis. Rarely, Behcet's disease can be a cause of Budd-Chiari syndrome. In these ca

Behcet's disease is a vasculitis and multisystem inflammatory syndrome. Neurological abnormalities occur in a subset of patients. This report presents a case of neuro-Behcet's disease characterized by an initial onset of behavior changes prior to diagnosis, which evolved into a chronic behavioral syndrome. Neuroimaging investigations revealed progressive periventricular white matter and brainstem atrophy and lesions in the basal ganglia and deep white matter tracts, while neuropsychological investigations revealed reductions in information processing, executive functioning, and memory. The cas

BACKGROUND: The central nervous system is often involved in Behcet's disease. Most common are meningoencephalitic and brain stem syndromes. Although basal ganglia involvement is not an uncommon finding on necropsy, there are only single reports on extrapyramidal syndromes-dyskinesia, chorea and Parkinsonism in patients with Behcet's disease.
CASE STUDY: We report a patient fulfilling the criteria of the International Study Group for Behcet's disease. He had recurrent oral ulcerations, bilateral posterior uveitis and retinal vasculitis, skin papules and pustules, and recurrent monoarthritis. N

OBJECTIVE: For patients with systemic vasculitis (SV) refractory to conventional therapy, new treatment strategies aimed at aggressive induction of remission and relapse prevention are being sought. We herein report our single-centre experience in treating four patients with refractory SV employing non-myeloablative autologous haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT).
METHODS: Four patients with refractory SV (two with neurovascular Behcet disease, one with neurovascular Sjögren syndrome, and one with Wegener granulomatosis) were involved in an Institutional Review Board (IRB) and US F

Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) is the most common oral mucosal disease in North America. In some instances, RAS represents the central feature of the multisystem disease complex Behcet's syndrome. This article reviews the clinical features, contributing etiologic factors, and etiopathogenesis of RAS and Behcet's syndrome and describes therapeutic considerations and strategies essential to management of patients suffering from recurrent mouth ulcers.

Behcet disease is a multisystem inflammatory disorder, rarely found in African Americans. Arterial involvement occurs in less than 8% of patients. Profunda femoral artery aneurysms (PFAAs) are extremely rare and often occur with synchronous aneurysms. We present a case of an African American man diagnosed with Behcet disease from his presentation with PFAA. He was also found to have a synchronous hypogastric artery aneurysm. The patient was immediately treated with corticosteroids and infliximab to control systemic and vascular inflammation, returning 1 month later for surgery. He had a repair

Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease (KFD) is a rare and self-limiting disorder characterized by cervical lymphadenopathy and fever. In this report, we present a case of a 24-year-old man with known history of KFD who presented with lower gastrointestinal bleeding and acute blood loss anemia. Further evaluation with colonoscopy showed widespread ulcerations in the colon and terminal ileum with suspicion for Behcet's disease. Biopsy from the colonic mucosa and ileocecal valve demonstrated focal ulcer with cryptitis and lymphoid aggregates that can be seen in Behcet's syndrome; however, it lacks specificity

OBJECTIVES: To establish the urologic status of men with Behcet's syndrome, because studies assessing the urologic aspect of Behçet's syndrome are rare.
METHODS: During a 2.5-year period, we evaluated 104 male patients with Behçet's syndrome, 16 to 50 years old (mean 31+/-7), using a urologic questionnaire and modified Boyarsky symptom score; 44 healthy men, 20 to 46 years old (mean 29+/-7), were used as control subjects.
RESULTS: The frequency of epididymitis in patients with Behçet's syndrome was 19.2% in this study. The mean irritative symptom score was 1.22+/-1.37 (significantly higher t

We present a case of nasal endometriosis, an uncommon extrapelvic implantation of endometriotic tissue. A woman with a history of pelvic endometriosis and Behcet's syndrome was diagnosed with nasal endometriosis after episodes of perimenstrual epistaxis and nasal pain. Despite being rare, the presence of catamenial symptoms and the possibility of performing endoscopic biopsy allowed us to make the diagnosis of nasal endometriosis. The simultaneous presence of Behcet's syndrome focused our attention on the pathogenesis and the therapeutic management of endometriosis.

A 28-year-old man, who presented with pleural and pericardial chylous effusion secondary to superior vena cava syndrome, was diagnosed with Behcet's syndrome. A pericardial window was created by video-assisted thoracic surgery to relieve cardiac tamponade, and this technique also enabled lung biopsy, pleural abrasion, and drainage of the pleural effusion. We report this case because of its rarity. To the best of our knowledge, the literature contains no other report of the use of video-assisted thoracic surgery for creating a pericardial window for the treatment of cardiac tamponade in a case

Thoracic aortic aneurysm with subsequent dissection is a very rare but dangerous complication of Behcet's disease, which is a systemic syndrome that can involve blood vessels of all sizes. Surgical experience in dealing with this complication in patients with Behcet's disease has been limited. We report a 20-year-old patient with Behcet's disease who presented with a giant dissecting thoracic aortic aneurysm. The patient was successfully treated with an aortic root and arch replacement using a frozen elephant trunk technique. Timely surgical intervention and appropriate long-term medical manag

The effect of topical recombinant interferon alfa 2c hydrogel (IFN alpha 2C) in the aphthous lesions of the mouth in Behcet's syndrome was assessed in twenty patients in a twelve-week open trial. IFN alpha 2C applied to the mouth for four weeks significantly reduced the number of aphthae in the post-treatment phase compared to the pretreatment and treatment phases. No side effects were recorded. Topical IFN alpha 2C seems to be effective in the treatment of the aphthae in Behcet's syndrome.
