A 46-year-old woman with a previous history of thyroiditis but without clinical evidence of preexisting liver disease presented with severe acute hepatitis while under benzarone therapy (Fragivix, 400 mg per day, p.o.). Gout develops as a consequence of longstanding hyperuricaemia leading to the deposition of monosodium urate crystals that can trigger episodes of acute inflammation, and in severe cases, impairment of vital organ function. In clinical practice, the treatment of gout has long relied on Western medicines. OBJECTIVE: To explore the understanding of refractory gout in Chinese rheumatologists.
METHODS: We conducted an anonymous survey of rheumatologists attending an annual national academic conference on rheumatism.

BACKGROUND: Hyperuricemia (HUA) involves multi-organ dysfunction, particularly hepatic and renal abnormalities. Danggui-Niantong decoction (DGN) is a traditional formula for gout and chronic kidney disease. Clinically, DGN is often combined with drugs that regulate hepatic function to treat HUA. Anoectochilus roxburghii (AR) is recognized for its hepatoprotective properties. BACKGROUND: Pre-term birth is a major health care challenge throughout the world, and preterm labor represents a potentially reversible component of this problem. Current tocolytics do not improve preterm labor beyond 48 h. We have previously shown that anoctamin 1 (ANO1) channel blockade results in relaxation of pre-contracted human uterine smooth muscle (USM). Three drug classes with reported medicinal effects in humans also have members with ANO1 antagonism. In this study, we compared the ability of representatives from these 3 classes to reduce human USM contractility and excitability.

Ten cases of Lesch-Nyhan syndrome have been followed for 3-19 years (mean, 11 years and four months). Criteria of Lesch-Nyhan syndrome were restricted to the following: complete absence of hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyltransferase (HPRT) in hemolysate and fibroblast, spasticity, choreoathetosis, mental retardation, self-mutilation, and occurrence in males.
