BACKGROUND: Different bar construction techniques will affect the bar passive fitness, which may induce stresses or strain on the implant and/or tightening screw and sequentially may affect the biting force and patient satisfaction.
AIM OF THE STUDY: This clinical investigation assessed patient satisfaction and maximum biting force (MBF) using three differently constructed (conventional casting, milling, and 3D printing CAD/CAM techniques) cobalt-chromium (Co-Cr) bar-retained implants mandibular overdentures over a one-year period of follow-up.

Differential scaling of musculoskeletal traits leads to differences in performance across ontogeny and ultimately determines patterns of resource use during development. Because musculoskeletal growth of the feeding system facilitates high bite-force generation necessary to overcome the physical constraints of consuming more durable prey, durophagous taxa are well suited for investigations of the scaling relationships between musculoskeletal growth, bite-force generation and dietary ontogeny. To elucidate which biomechanical factors are responsible for allometric changes in bite force and duro

This study aimed to evaluate the postoperative changes in masticatory function in patients with jaw deformities with or without asymmetry treated by orthognathic surgery. Thirty female patients who underwent a Le Fort I osteotomy with sagittal split ramus osteotomy (SSRO) were enrolled. The patients were divided into symmetry and asymmetry groups. The bite force, occlusal contact area, and bite force balance were measured before and at 1, 3, and 6 months and 1 year after surgery; these measurements were compared statistically within and between the two groups. In the symmetry group, there was

Bite force is a simple trait indicating an animal's performance related to foraging, social dominance, and defence, all of which influence individual reproductive success. We examine the effect of breeding status on bite force in four social species of Fukomys, a genus of subterranean African rodents (Bathyergidae). These species are cooperative breeders, where reproduction is limited typically to a breeding pair. We collected in vivo bite force data, head width, and upper incisors width from 404 individuals from 75 families and tested whether breeders exhibit stronger bite force. We reveal th

BACKGROUND: Little is known about the impact of intra-articular temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) on bite function, or how bite impairments in this subgroup relate to self-perceived bite limitation or kinesiophobia. This presents a challenge to practitioners involved in delivering care.
OBJECTIVES: To determine what bite impairments are associated with intra-articular TMDs, and explore how these impairments relate to self-perceived bite limitations and kinesiophobia.
DESIGN: Observational, case-control study.
METHOD: Sixty participants (n = 30 intra-articular TMDs, n = 30 healthy controls)

AIMS: To assess the influence of clenching side and location (ie, tooth) on the bite force necessary to induce pain or discomfort in patients with unilateral anterior disc displacement (ADD) of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ).
METHODS: A total of 17 patients with unilateral ADD diagnosed clinically and with magnetic resonance imaging were included. A bite force meter was positioned at each of four experimental positions: the mandibular first premolars and first molars, bilaterally. Subjects were instructed to clench on the bite force meter until they felt pain or discomfort in the orofacial

Implant overdenture attachments serve as the crucial link between dental implants and removable dentures, significantly enhancing the stability, retention, and function of the prosthesis. This study was designed to assess the effectiveness of locator and TITACH attachments in retaining mandibular two-implant overdentures, maximum bite force, and marginal bone loss. The study involved 36 edentulous patients, each receiving new complete dentures (CDs) designed with the bilateral balanced occlusal concept. Two implants were positioned in the mandibular canine regions. Participants were randomly a

Environmental temperatures influence most aspects of ectotherm biology, especially when fluctuating on daily and seasonal scales. The Alligator Snapping Turtle (Macrochelys temminckii) is a species of conservation concern inhabiting temperate latitudes in the southeastern United States. To study the effect of temperature and season on the bite performance of M. temminckii, we used a force transducer and high-speed videography to measure bite force and kinematics, including bite duration, jaw velocity and acceleration, and lunge velocity and acceleration, for 21 captive subadult M. temminckii.

OBJECTIVES: Mandibular reconstruction remains a clinical challenge due to a high rate of osseous non-unions. Mechanical factors are known to influence the bone regeneration process. Therefore, bite force levels, both immediately after surgery and during the bone healing process, are believed to play a critical role in the healing outcome. The aim of this study was to evaluate bite force and mandibular mobility measurements over time following mandibular reconstruction and to relate these measurements to the bone healing outcome.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this prospective study, 28 patients we

Mandibular condyle fractures contribute to ∼10% to 40% of maxillofacial trauma cases. Efficacy of fixation systems comparing 3D plates with conventional miniplates based on measurement of bite forces through gnathodynamometer was done in the past; however, no studies exist comparing efficacy of 3D trapezoidal plates versus 3D delta plates through bite forces evaluation. Hence, this comparative analytical prospective study was designed for cases of unilateral subcondylar fractures with associated contralateral symphysis or parasymphysis fractures of mandible in patients belonging to the age gro

Extant and extinct reptiles exhibit numerous combinations of tooth implantation and attachment. Tooth implantation ranges from those possessing roots and lying within a socket (thecodonty), to teeth lying against the lingual wall of the jawbone (pleurodonty), to teeth without roots or sockets that are attached to the apex of the marginal jawbones (acrodonty). Attachment may be ligamentous (gomphosis) or via fusion (ankylosis). Generally speaking, adaptative reasonings are proposed as an underlying driver for evolutionary changes in some forms of tooth implantation and attachment. However, a su

INTRODUCTION: Mandible is the first or the second most fractured bone of facial skeleton. Fractures of the angle account for 23-43% of all mandibular fractures. Soft and hard tissue are affected in a traumatized mandible. Bite forces are an essential factor in masticatory muscles activity. An improved function is a result of improvement in the bite force.
AIM: The objective of this research was to conduct a systematic review of all available literature regarding the masticatory muscles' activity and bite forces in patients with mandibular angle fractures.
METHODS: PubMed, and Google Scholar
