BACKGROUND: Impaired fetal and accelerated postnatal growth are associated with cardiometabolic disease. Few studies investigated how recovery from severe acute malnutrition (SAM) is associated with childhood cardiometabolic risk.
OBJECTIVES: We evaluated cardiometabolic risk in children with SAM treated through community-based management, relative to controls, 5-y postrecovery. Recognizing the heterogeneity of SAM case definitions and patterns of nutritional recovery, we also identified distinct body mass index-for-age z-score (BAZ) trajectories of children with SAM in the first year postrec

PURPOSE: To determine whether neighborhood concentrated disadvantage (NCD) in adolescence predicts membership in distinct body mass index (BMI) trajectory classes in early midlife, and whether the food retail environment mediates this association.
METHODS: Using the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health (Waves I, III, IV, V; 1994-2018; n = 8951), we derived NCD from five census block-group indicators at Wave I. Latent class growth modeling identified three BMI trajectory classes from ages 16-38: normal stable (59.7%), overweight rising (31.3%), and obese accelerating (9.0%

INTRODUCTION: Gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms are some of the most common non-motor symptoms in Parkinson's. Weight is a nutritional metric and can be affected by dysfunction of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. This study aims to explore the change in trajectory of body mass index (BMI) in individuals with Parkinson's over the course of the disease including the prodromal and post-diagnostic periods.
METHODS: This was a retrospective longitudinal study of data from participants from the PRIME Parkinson UK cross-sectional study. Participants were included if they had had one or more weights and

OBJECTIVES: Excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) is a common sleep complaint in the population and is increasingly recognised as deleterious for health. Simple and sensitive tools allowing identifying individuals at greater risk of EDS would be of public health importance. Hence, we determined trajectories of body silhouette from early childhood to adulthood and evaluated their association with EDS in adulthood.
DESIGN: A retrospective analysis in a prospective community-based study.
PARTICIPANTS: 6820 men and women self-reported their silhouette at ages 8, 15, 25, 35 and 45 using the body sil

Patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD) are a heterogeneous group regarding their body mass index (BMI) levels at the time of diagnosis. To address the heterogeneity of CVD, we examined the trajectories of change in body mass index (BMI) and in other cardio-metabolic risk factors before CVD diagnosis. The study included 6126 participants from the prospective population-based Rotterdam Study, followed over 22 years with clinical examinations every 4 years. Latent class trajectory analysis and mixed-effect models were used to develop trajectories of BMI and other cardio-metabolic risk factors

BACKGROUND: Excessive gestational weight gain (GWG) is common among women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and is associated with adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes. However, the influence of social determinants of health (SDOH) on GWG trajectories in this population remains poorly understood. This study aimed to characterize GWG trajectories and evaluate how SDOH influence these patterns. METHODS: We conducted a multicenter cohort study of women with GDM who delivered at four hospitals in Wuhan, China. GWG trajectories were based on at least three weight measurements from GDM diag

BACKGROUND: Obesity and depression are independently associated with liver disease, yet to our knowledge, no prior study has specifically examined their joint longitudinal trajectories or the mediating role of frailty in this association.
OBJECTIVES: To identify joint trajectories of body mass index and depressive symptoms, examine their associations with incident liver disease, and evaluate frailty as a potential mediator.
METHODS: This multicohort prospective study included 17,582 participants aged 45 years or more from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (2011-2015; n = 10,

INTRODUCTION: The influence of intrauterine conditions on later weight gain remains unclear. We examined the associations of birth size characteristics (weight, length, and ponderal index (PI)) with body mass index (BMI) trajectories and fluctuation in adolescence and adulthood using a twin design, which provides insights into the role of genetic and environmental factors.
DATA AND METHODS: Data from two Finnish twin cohorts including 9850 twin individuals (48 % males) were used. Weight and length or height were measured at birth and at different ages during adolescence and adulthood (11.5-37

AIMS: Diabetes development mechanisms vary by weight status. We aimed to compare cardiometabolic risk and characterize fasting plasma glucose (FPG) and glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) trajectories before diagnosing type 2 diabetes in individuals with/without obesity.
METHODS: Data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) and English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA) were analysed. Participants without diabetes and with a body mass index of 18.5-40 kg/m2 at baseline were included. Incident diabetes was ascertained by self-reported physician diagnosis and/or antidiabetic

BACKGROUND: overweight and obesity in women of reproductive age are increasing and are often linked with excessive weight gain in pregnancy and weight retention after birth. Studies on spontaneous maternal weight trajectory after childbirth are scarce.
OBJECTIVE: we describe women's spontaneous weight trajectory during the first six weeks of the postpartum period and its relationship between Body Mass Index and socio-demographical, behavioural and psychological variables.
DESIGN: data from 212 women who gave birth in three regional hospitals were collected prospectively between December 2015

In order to explore the association between trajectories of body mass index (BMI) and mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) and diabetes and to assess the effectiveness of the models to predict diabetes among Chinese prediabetic people, we conducted this study. Using a national longitudinal study, 1529 cases were involved for analyzing the association between diabetes and BMI trajectories or MUAC trajectories. Growth mixture modeling was conducted among the prediabetic Chinese population to explore the trajectories of BMI and MUAC, and logistic regression was applied to evaluate the association b

OBJECTIVE: This longitudinal study aims to identify the key factors influencing the weight loss trajectory during a 24-week intervention and their relevance at different stages of the treatment.
METHODS: We studied 1252 participants (age 18-65 years) of a cognitive behavioral program to lose weight. Body weight was measured weekly, and a range of variables at baseline and throughout the treatment period were assessed. Linear regression analyses were conducted to understand the factors involved in the weight loss trajectory across three treatment periods (0-6, 7-12, 13-24 weeks).
RESULTS: The

We investigated the association of outcomes with pre-pregnancy body mass index (ppBMI), Institute of Medicine (IOM) recommendations about gestational weight gain, and weight gain trajectories during pregnancy. A prospective cohort of 7866 pregnant women was recruited. ppBMI and weight gain at each follow up visit were collected. The outcomes were gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP), caesarean delivery, macrosomia, small (SGA) and large (LGA) for gestational age, neonatal hypoglycemia. Group-based multi-trajectory modelling was used for weight kinetics

The non-Hispanic Black population in the U.S. has experienced one of the highest obesity rates, relative to the non-Hispanic White population and other racial groups. This study explores how adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and racial identification influence body mass trajectories from adolescence to adulthood. Participants include non-Hispanic Black and non-Hispanic White individuals from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health (n = 5438). The outcome measure was body mass index (BMI). The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System ACE Module and the CDC's Kaiser AC

BACKGROUND: Excess weight is common in people with severe mental illness, including schizophrenia spectrum disorders, bipolar disorder, and other non-organic psychotic disorders. Rapid weight gain often follows use of antipsychotics, but long-term weight trajectories are unclear. We aimed to compare 15-year weight trajectories and assess the incidence of weight management advice and referrals among people with and without severe mental illness.
METHODS: In this retrospective, matched cohort study, we used the Clinical Practice Research Datalink Aurum to identify people aged 18-65 years regist

Pregnancy can alter a woman's weight gain trajectory across the life course and contribute to the development of obesity through retention of weight gained during pregnancy. This study aimed to identify modifiable determinants associated with postpartum weight retention (PPWR; calculated by the difference in pre-pregnancy and 6 month postpartum weight) in 667 women with obesity from the UPBEAT study. We examined the relationship between PPWR and reported glycaemic load, energy intake, and smoking status in pregnancy, excessive gestational weight gain (GWG), mode of delivery, self-reported post

Incarceration is associated with health risks including overweight and obesity. This study explored obesity rates and weight gain in incarcerated youth by tracking weight trajectory during continuous stays in juvenile justice facilities. Among 65 youth, mean weight gain was 17.8 pounds and significant, F(2, 12) = 25.44, p = .03. Youth gained an average of 15.6 pounds (standard deviation [ SD] = 3.6) during the initial incarceration period (mean = 71 days). From the assessment to treatment period (mean = 46 days), mean weight gain was 4.1 pounds ( SD = 4.3), which also was significant, F(2, 12)
