A comparative study of using a combination of calcium chloride and mineral trioxide aggregate as the pulp-capping agent on dogs' teeth.

INTRODUCTION: The addition of some chemicals to mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) may improve the physical properties of the biomaterial. The aim of this study was to compare a combination of MTA with/without CaCl(2) as pulp-capping agents in dogs' teeth. METHODS: The dental pulp of 32 teeth in four dogs were exposed and capped with either MTA or MTA/CaCl(2). After 2 months, the animals were sacrificed, and the teeth were prepared for histological evaluation. Pulpal response to the two capping materials was evaluated in terms of necrosis, inflammation, and formation of a calcified bridge. The

Novel approach to enhance the efficiency of mortar against radiations by co-incorporation of lead and boron compounds with calcium chloride.

Fabrication of heavy density mortar using aggregates reinforced with available solid inorganic chemical additives is of a great importance as a protective layer to mitigate radiations in nuclear facilities. The effect of lead oxide and borax decahydrate on the hydration kinetics was evaluated by determining setting time, leachability and compressive strength. To speed up the reaction, 0.5% calcium chloride was added to all formulations, and then the results were compared to their blank counterparts. Once, the optimal compositions were explored, another batch of mortar were designed to increase

Innovative salt replacement for green Spanish-style olives using potassium, calcium, and magnesium chlorides during packaging.

This work aimed to enhance green Spanish-style Manzanilla table olives by replacing salt with K, Ca, and Mg chlorides in innovative packaging, utilising Response Surface Methodology (RSM). Both the added replacers and naturally occurring minerals were considered. RSM allowed the development of predictive models for K, Ca, Mg, and Mn (initially present) in olive flesh and their contributions to Reference Daily Intakes (RDI) based on the added salts. The sodium content in the new products decreased from 1.4 g/100 g flesh to 0.68 g/100 g flesh, while K, Ca, and Mg concentrations could increase up

Chemical castration in dogs using calcium chloride: effects on testicular hemodynamics and semen characteristic and serum levels of testosterone.

Dog overpopulation and stray dogs are global issues that are detrimental to public health and animal welfare. Thus, the goal of the current study was to provide alternatives for surgical castration. Therefore, calcium chloride was employed in this study, which might be an option for castration. Ten dogs were divided into two groups of five: a calcium chloride-treated group and a control group. The treated group received a single bilateral intratesticular injection of 1 ml of sterile saline containing calcium chloride dihydrate (CaCl2•2 H2O) at a dose of 20 mg/kg per testicle. While the control

Skin necrosis after intravenous calcium chloride administration as a complication of parathyroidectomy for secondary hyperparathyroidism: report of four cases.

Intravenous (i.v.) calcium chloride is usually given to treat symptomatic hypocalcemia; however, the extravasation of calcium solution may cause soft tissue and skin necrosis. After parathyroidectomy and autotransplantation for secondary hyperparathyroidism associated with end-stage renal failure, i.v. calcium infusion is often necessary to treat severe postoperative hypocalcemia. We reviewed 371 patients who underwent parathyroidectomy for secondary hyperparathyroidism between January 2000 and June 2005, 96 of whom received i.v. calcium postoperatively for symptomatic hypocalcemia. We report

Calcium Channels, Rho-Kinase, Protein Kinase-C, and Phospholipase-C Pathways Mediate Mercury Chloride-Induced Myometrial Contractions in Rats.

Adverse effects of mercury on female reproduction are reported; however, its effect on myogenic activity of uterus and mechanism thereof is obscure. Present study was undertaken to unravel the mechanistic pathways of mercuric chloride (HgCl2)-induced myometrial contraction in rats. Isometric tension in myometrial strips of rats following in vitro exposure to HgCl2 was recorded using data acquisition system-based physiograph. HgCl2 produced concentration-dependent (10 nM-100 μM) uterotonic effect which was significantly (p < 0.05) reduced in Ca2+-free solution and inhibited in the presence of n

Prostaglandin E2 induces chloride secretion through crosstalk between cAMP and calcium signaling in mouse inner medullary collecting duct cells.

Under conditions of high dietary salt intake, prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) production is increased in the collecting duct and promotes urinary sodium chloride (NaCl) excretion; however, the molecular mechanisms by which PGE2 increases NaCl excretion in this context have not been clearly defined. We used the mouse inner medullary collecting duct (mIMCD)-K2 cell line to characterize mechanisms underlying PGE2-regulated NaCl transport. When epithelial Na(+) channels were inhibited, PGE2 exclusively stimulated basolateral EP4 receptors to increase short-circuit current (Isc(PGE2)). We found that Isc(PG

Comparative Proteomics of Ovarian Cancer Aggregate Formation Reveals an Increased Expression of Calcium-activated Chloride Channel Regulator 1 (CLCA1).

Ovarian cancer is a lethal gynecological disease that is characterized by peritoneal metastasis and increased resistance to conventional chemotherapies. This increased resistance and the ability to spread is often attributed to the formation of multicellular aggregates or spheroids in the peritoneal cavity, which seed abdominal surfaces and organs. Given that the presence of metastatic implants is a predictor of poor survival, a better understanding of how spheroids form is critical to improving patient outcome, and may result in the identification of novel therapeutic targets. Thus, we attemp

Hyperpolarization-activated inward potassium and calcium-sensitive chloride currents in beating pacemaker insect neurosecretory cells (dorsal unpaired median neurons).

Hyperpolarization-activated inward currents were studied in single adult cockroach Periplaneta americana pacemaker neurosecretory cells, identified as dorsal unpaired median neurons using the whole-cell patch-clamp technique. Under current clamp, injection of negative current produced a hyperpolarization of the cell membrane with a sag in the membrane potential toward the resting value. Under voltage clamp, the whole-cell current-voltage relationship exhibited an unexpected biphasic aspect. The global hyperpolarization-activated inward current could be dissociated by means of 4-acetamido-4'-is

Synchrotron X-ray absorption spectroscopy study of the evolution of chlorine during the pyro-hydrolysis of calcium and magnesium chloride waste.

Effective liberation of chlorine (Cl) as a recoverable product such as hydrochloric acid is crucial for the clean disposal of massive Cl-bearing industrial solid waste. This study aims to clarify the evolution of Cl upon the pyrohydrolysis of CaCl2 waste. Particularly, the use of silica and MgCl2 to promote the breakage of Ca-Cl bonds to release HCl gas has been investigated, via synchrotron X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS). As confirmed, in the presence of silica, the pyrohydrolysis of CaCl2 commences from 800 °C, lower than the minimum temperature predicted based on the existing thermodyn

Age‑associated variation in the expression and function of TMEM16A calcium‑activated chloride channels in the cochlear stria vascularis of guinea pigs.

The present study was designed to investigate the expression and function of transmembrane protein 16 (TMEM16A), a calcium‑activated chloride channel (CaCC), in the stria vascularis (SV) of the cochlea of guinea pigs at different ages, and to understand the role of CaCCs in the pathogenesis of presbycusis (age‑related hearing loss), the most common type of sensorineural hearing loss that occurs with natural aging. Guinea pigs were divided into the following groups: 2 weeks (young group), 3 months (youth group), 1 year (adult group), D‑galactose intervention (D‑gal group; aging model induced by

Sex- and dose-dependent effects of post-trial calcium channel blockade by magnesium chloride on memory for inhibitory avoidance conditioning.

Calcium influx through voltage-dependent Ca(2+) channels is critical for many neuronal processes required for learning and memory. Persistent increases in cytosolic intracellular Ca(2+) concentrations in aging neurons are associated with learning impairments, while small transient subcellular changes in intracellular calcium concentrations play critical roles in neural plasticity in young neurons. In the present study, young male and female Fisher 344 × Brown Norway (FBN) hybrid rats were administered different doses of magnesium chloride (0.0, 100.0, or 200.0mg/kg, i.p.) following a single in

EXPERIMENTAL OBSERVATIONS ON IRRADIATED, NORMAL, AND PARTIALLY PARATHYROIDECTOMIZED RABBITS : II. THE EFFECTS OF INJECTIONS OF CALCIUM CHLORIDE OR OF DISODIUM HYDROGEN PHOSPHATE.

No significant differences were found in the reactions of irradiated, normal, or partially parathyroidectomized rabbits to injections of calcium chloride or disodium hydrogen phosphate. Intravenous injections of calcium chloride caused only a transient rise in blood calcium, which returned to its former level within a few hours. The upper level of blood calcium concentration is independent of parathyroid control. Subcutaneous injections of disodium hydrogen phosphate caused, in all three groups of rabbits, a similar depression of the blood calcium level. After large doses of the phosphate solu

Calcium chloride-mediated regulation of shell-surface transport behavior, alkali diffusion, and gel stability in duck eggs during alkaline pickling.

Preserved eggs are produced by alkaline pickling, during which uncontrolled hydroxide diffusion can cause excessive egg-white liquefaction. Calcium chloride was evaluated as a modulator of alkali diffusion and gel stability during pickling. Eggs were pickled in 4% NaOH containing 0-0.8% CaCl2 or 0.2% CuSO4 for six weeks at 25 °C. Eggshell surface morphology, internal alkalinity, moisture redistribution, protein cross-linking, and gel structure were examined. At the 0.2% CaCl2 treatment, regulated hydroxide diffusion promoted controlled protein unfolding, more balanced thiol-disulfide transitio

TMEM16A inhibitors reveal TMEM16A as a minor component of calcium-activated chloride channel conductance in airway and intestinal epithelial cells.

TMEM16A (ANO1) functions as a calcium-activated chloride channel (CaCC). We developed pharmacological tools to investigate the contribution of TMEM16A to CaCC conductance in human airway and intestinal epithelial cells. A screen of ∼110,000 compounds revealed four novel chemical classes of small molecule TMEM16A inhibitors that fully blocked TMEM16A chloride current with an IC(50) < 10 μM, without interfering with calcium signaling. Following structure-activity analysis, the most potent inhibitor, an aminophenylthiazole (T16A(inh)-A01), had an IC(50) of ∼1 μM. Two distinct types of inhibitors
