Effect of root canal filling materials containing calcium hydroxide on the alkalinity of root dentin.

The effect of root canal filling pastes containing calcium oxide resp. calcium hydroxide on the alkalinity of extracted human teeth was investigated using a colour indicator (cresol red). An aqueous suspension of calcium hydroxide (Pulpdent), which is normally used for temporary root canal filling, most consistently produced alkalinity. Removal of the smear layer following instrumentation of the root canal led to increased proportion of alkaline-positive spots in dentinal locations distant from the canal. A clearly smaller effect was found with a calcium salicylate cement (Sealapex) and an oil

Calcium hydroxide coating on highly reactive nanoscale zero-valent iron for in situ remediation application.

Nano scale zero-valent iron (nZVI), a promising engineering technology for in situ remediation, has been greatly limited by quick self-corrosion and low mobility in porous media. Highly reactive nZVI particles produced from the borohydride reduction method were enclosed in a releasable Ca(OH)2 layer by the chemical deposition method. The amount of Ca(OH)2 coated on nZVI surface were well controlled by the precursor dosage. At moderate Ca(OH)2 dosage (RCa/TFe = 0.25) condition, the increment of Fe0 content for the obtained nZVI/Ca-0.25 sample was observed. The interfacial reactions between the

[Calcium hydroxide and treatment of inflammatory inter-radicular bone resorption of non-vital deciduous molars].

On non-vital deciduous molars, inter-radicular bone resorption is often an indication of extraction. The endodontic treatment of these teeth by means of zinc oxide-eugenol (ZOE) paste also showed its limits. To mitigate the deficiencies of this material, we suggested a preliminary treatment by means of calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) for its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties as well as its ability to stimulate calcified tissues apposition or remineralisation. This study concerns 21 non-vital deciduous molars. X-rays excluded any lesion of the underlying permanent bony crypt (bone tissue)

Calcium hydroxide root canal sealers--histopathologic evaluation of apical and periapical repair after endodontic treatment.

Eighty root canals of the premolars of 4 dogs, with vital pulp, were instrumented and filled during the same session with the Sealapex, CRCS, Sealer 26, and Apexit sealers. The animals were sacrificed 180 days after root canal filling and their maxillae and mandibles were removed and fixed in 10% formalin. After routine histologic processing, the sections were stained with hematoxylin-eosin and Mallory trichrome. Histopathologic analysis showed that Sealapex was the sealer that best permitted the deposition of mineralized tissue at the apical level and was the only sealer that provided complet

Effects of calcium hydroxide-containing pulp-capping agents on pulp cell migration, proliferation, and differentiation.

The findings from the recent literature on pulpal cell responses to the application of calcium hydroxide to exposed pulps are described. The effect of calcium hydroxide on healthy and inflamed pulp is discussed. The effect of incorporation of calcium hydroxide in various pulp-capping agents is presented. The initial effect of calcium hydroxide applied to exposed pulp is the development of a superficial three-layer necrosis. The beneficial effect of calcium hydroxide is regarded as the result of the chemical injury caused by the hydroxyl ions, limited by a zone of firm necrosis against the vita

Calcium hydroxide paste as a surface detoxifying agent for infected dental implants: two case reports.

Dental implant treatment is successful; however, an implant can become infected during or after osseointegration. The two case reports presented here demonstrate, anecdotally, the effectiveness of endodontic calcium hydroxide paste for the surface treatment of infected, healing, or osseointegrated dental implants. Calcium hydroxide may be an appropriate surface detoxifying agent for local dental implant infections. A sequence of calcium hydroxide and 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate surface treatment may provide a broad range of antimicrobial action for detoxifying recalcitrant infections. Calcium

Effects of calcium-magnesium carbonate and calcium-magnesium hydroxide as supplemental sources of magnesium on microbial fermentation in a dual-flow continuous culture.

Supplemental sources of Mg can also aid in ruminal pH regulation due to their alkaline properties. Magnesium oxide (MgO) is the most common source of Mg for ruminants and can help controlling ruminal pH; however, the alkaline potential of other sources of Mg has not been evaluated. We aimed to evaluate the inclusion of calcium-magnesium carbonate (CaMg(CO3)2) and calcium-magnesium hydroxide (CaMg(OH)4) alone or in combination as supplemental sources of Mg in corn silage-based diets and its impact on ruminal microbial fermentation. We hypothesized that inclusion of CaMg(OH)4 would allow for rum

A calcium hydroxide/oleic acid/phospholipid nanoparticle induced cancer cell apoptosis by the combination of intracellular calcium overload and lactic acidosis elimination.

Intracellular calcium ions (Ca2+) influence the proliferation-apoptosis balance, and lactic acidosis is an innate feature of a malignant tumor. In this study, a calcium hydroxide/oleic acid/phospholipid nanoparticle [CUR-Ca(OH)2-OA/PL NP] with lipase/pH dual responsive delivery of Ca2+ and curcumin (CUR) was developed for inducing cancer cell apoptosis by a combination of intracellular calcium overload and lactic acidosis elimination. The nanoparticle showed a core-shell structure with some good performance, including an adequate nano-size, negative charge, good blood circulation stability, an
