Magnetic resonance imaging findings in patients with delusional disorder due to diffuse cerebrovascular disease: a report of seven cases.

Delusions associated with cerebrovascular diseases have been sporadically reported. Although both psychiatrists and neurologists attempted to link delusions with anatomical locations of the brain lesion, comorbid psychiatric and neurological disorders make the interpretation of delusions difficult. The purpose of the present paper is to report the clinical features and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) characteristics in patients with delusional disorder due to diffuse cerebrovascular diseases, and to redefine the concept of 'vascular delusion'. The clinical features and MRI findings were revie

Feasibility and acceptability of novel functional electronic stimulated rehabilitation application for treatment in patients with cerebrovascular disorders: the FRAT study protocol.

BACKGROUND: The prognosis of patients with cerebrovascular disorders is poor owing to their high residual rate of hemiplegia. Delayed withdrawal from synkinesis is a major cause of prolonged hemiplegia; however, effective rehabilitation has not been established. This single-arm, open-label study aims to evaluate the influence of a low-frequency treatment device on canceling synkinesis in patients with incomplete paralysis and cerebrovascular disorders. METHODS: Eligible participants will include patients aged 20 years or older with incomplete paralysis, defined as upper limb Brunnstrom stage

Prevalence of long term metabolic, cardiovascular, cerebrovascular and renal disease in patients with hypertensive disorders in pregnancy remote from pregnancy (POMCH).

BACKGROUND: Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) are associated with an increased risk of long-term cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, and adverse renal outcomes. Biomarkers including soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase 1 (sFlt1), placental growth factor (PlGF) are predictive of the development of preeclampsia. Their long-term value in predicting which women will develop cardiovascular complications remote from pregnancy is not yet established. OBJECTIVES: To determine the prevalence and incidence of Cardio-renal-metabolic outcomes at 10 years follow-up in a cohort of women screened for suspe

Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) and Risk of Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) and Cerebrovascular Disease (CeVD): Analysis of the Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS) Database.

BACKGROUND: Substance use continues to be on the rise in the United States and has been linked to new onset cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and cerebrovascular disorders (CeVDs). We aimed to study the association between the types of substance use disorders (SUDs) with specific subtypes of CVDs and CeVDs among hospitalized patients using the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) Database. METHODS: A retrospective study of the NIS database (2016-2017) using the ICD-10-CM codes was performed. The hospitalizations with a secondary diagnosis of SUDs were identified. Weighted univariate analysis using th

Chinese Stroke Association guidelines for clinical management of cerebrovascular disorders: executive summary and 2019 update of clinical management of spontaneous subarachnoid haemorrhage.

AIM: Spontaneous subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) caused by ruptured cerebral aneurysm is a severe subtype of haemorrhagic stroke. Although the incidence of SAH is relatively low among all cerebrovascular diseases, the mortality is the highest. The critical management of SAH is challenging. We provide this evidence-based guideline to present current and comprehensive recommendations for the diagnosis and treatment of non-trauma SAH. METHODS: A formal literature search of MEDLINE (1 January 1990-30 June 2019) was performed. Data were synthesised with the use of evidence tables. Writing group mem

Prevalence and Outcomes Associated with Vitamin D Deficiency among Indexed Hospitalizations with Cardiovascular Disease and Cerebrovascular Disorder-A Nationwide Study.

Background: According to past studies, recovery and survival following severe vascular events such as acute myocardial infarction and stroke are negatively impacted by vitamin D deficiency. However, the national estimate on disability-related burden is unclear. We intend to evaluate the prevalence and outcomes of vitamin D deficiency (VDD) among patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD) and cerebrovascular disorder (CeVD). Methods: We performed a cross-sectional study on the Nationwide Inpatient Sample data (2016-2017) of adult (≥18 years) hospitalizations. We identified patients with a secon

Association of Cannabis Use Disorder with Major Adverse Cardiac and Cerebrovascular Events in Older Non-Tobacco Users: A Population-Based Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Tobacco use disorder (TUD) adversely impacts older patients with established cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. However, CVD risk in chronic habitual cannabis users without the confounding impact of TUD hasn't been explored. We aimed to determine the risk of major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCE) in older non-tobacco smokers with established CVD risk with vs. without cannabis use disorder (CUD). METHODS: We queried the 2019 National Inpatient Sample for hospitalized non-tobacco smokers with established traditional CVD risk factors aged ≥65 years. Relevant ICD-10

[THE EFFECTIVENESS OF DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF CEREBROVASCULAR DISORDERS IN HYPERTENSIVE ENCEPHALOPATHY IN ELDERLY PATIENTS BY STUDYING THE CHARACTERISTICS OF CEREBRAL HEMODYNAMICS AND CEREBRAL PERFUSION STATUS].

Intrigue progression of hypertensive encephalopathy (HE) in older patients is that the development of cognitive impairment and high blood pressure underestimated, aslo exist without clinical manifestations. In recent decades convincing proved that the basis for the development of various diseases is cerebral dysfunction systems regulating brain blood flow, including--autoregulation system, which largely affects the blood supply to the brain. This explains the fact that patients with chronic brain ischemia cerebral hemodynamic status largely depends on the condition and stability of the regulat

Elevated risks of pneumonia, cognitive dysfunction, and cerebrovascular disorder in super-elderly knee arthroplasty patients: insights from a nationwide Japanese database.

INTRODUCTION: Knee arthroplasty is an effective treatment option for managing advanced osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, even in elderly patients. However, super-elderly patients face increased risks of postoperative complications such as in-hospital mortality, deep vein thrombosis, pneumonia, cerebrovascular events, and cognitive dysfunction. This study aims to analyze postoperative complications in super-elderly patients (aged 85 years and older) and elderly patients (aged 70-84 years) who underwent total knee arthroplasty (TKA) or unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) using Japan'

Acute Cerebrovascular Disorders and Vasculopathies Associated with Significant Mortality in SARS-CoV-2 Patients Admitted to The Intensive Care Unit in The New York Epicenter.

The current Coronavirus pandemic due to the novel SARS-Cov-2 virus has proven to have systemic and multi-organ involvement with high acuity neurological conditions including acute ischemic strokes. We present a case series of consecutive COVID-19 patients with cerebrovascular disease treated at our institution including 3 cases of cerebral artery dissection including subarachnoid hemorrhage. Knowledge of the varied presentations including dissections will help treating clinicians at the bedside monitor and manage these complications preemptively.

Autonomic nervous system activity and decline as prognostic indicators of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events: the 'PROOF' Study. Study design and population sample. Associations with sleep-related breathing disorders: the 'SYNAPSE' Study.

BACKGROUND: Transversal studies have underlined the association between the decline in autonomic nervous system (ANS) activity and all-cause mortality. However, the predictive value of ANS has never been prospectively assessed in a general population-based cohort. METHOD: The PROOF (PROgnostic indicator OF cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events) cohort study was designed to prospectively assess the predictive value of ANS activity level in the general population, with regard to cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events, and death. This predictive power will be compared with the usual and n

Exploratory associations of sleep spindles and sleep disordered breathing indices with hippocampal and thalamic volume, and cortical thickness, and cerebrovascular biomarkers among community dwelling older adults: results from the Brain in Motion Study.

STUDY OBJECTIVES: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) impacts brain structure and cerebrovascular function and is often associated with impaired sleep microstructure such as sleep spindles. Given the lack of research in sleep spindles and brain physiology in community dwelling older adults, this exploratory study hypothesized that (1) sleep disordered breathing is associated with lower cortical thickness, thalamic volume, hippocampal volume, cerebral perfusion, and higher white matter hyperintensity (WMH) volume; and (2) greater cortical thickness, thalamic and hippocampal volume predict greater sle

Incidence of neurodegenerative and cerebrovascular diseases associated with antihypertensive drug classes.

Antihypertensive drugs (AHTs) are associated with lowered risks of neurodegenerative diseases and stroke. However, the relative risks associated with different AHT classes are unclear. Using an electronic health record network with 34 million eligible patients, we compared rates of these disorders over a 2-year period, in propensity score-matched cohorts of people taking calcium channel blockers (CCBs) compared with those taking other AHT classes. CCBs were associated with a higher incidence of all disorders compared with renin-angiotensin system agents, and a higher incidence of dementia and

The risk of ischemic cerebrovascular disease associated with benzbromarone use in gout people: A retrospective cohort study in Taiwan.

Epidemiological studies have shown that people having hyperuricemia are at increased risk of ischemic cerebrovascular disease. This research aimed to study the relation of ischemic cerebrovascular disease with benzbromarone use among persons with gout-related disorders. This was a retrospective cohort design utilizing a 2003 to 2015 national health insurance database in Taiwan. Subjects aged 20 to 99 years who already had suffered from gout-related disorders were included as eligible subjects. Eligible persons who had the benzbromarone prescription alone were selected into the benzbromarone gr
