In this paper, two colorimetric and turn-on fluorescent probes N-[2-(2-hydroxy)-ethoxy] ethyl-4-azido-1,8-naphthalimide (SS1) and N-butyl-4-azido-1,8-naphthalimide (SS2) for selective recognition of H2S were designed and synthesized. The probes were constructed by incorporating an azido group into the naphthalimide fluorophore as a specifical reaction group for sulfide utilizing its reducing property. BACKGROUND: We have previously reported on the laparoscopic treatment of hydatid cysts of the liver. We now report the successful treatment of 18 cysts in 12 patients with a median follow-up of 12 months.
METHODS: The standard treatment in the open technique was performed laparoscopically. The main concern was to prevent spillage of the hydatid fluid, for which the puncture and evacuation of the cyst is carried under scolicidal agents cover using 1% cetrimide, thus decreasing the chances of recurrence.

Cetrimide and chlorhexidine are widely used antiseptics. Irritant contact dermatitis from cetrimide has been reported, but only rarely and without pathologic study. We report the clinical and pathologic findings from a series of 18 cases of contact dermatitis caused by antiseptic solutions containing 3% cetrimide and 0.3% chlorhexidine. The patients consisted of 10 males and 8 females, aged from 2 to 62 years. Most patients developed pruritic, burning or painful rashes over the flexors and genitalia after 1 to 4 weeks of daily use of undiluted antiseptics for an underlying pruritic dermatosis.

A bacteriological study of the middle-ear effusions and the ear canals in children with chronic serous otitis media (S.O.M.) was performed. Sixty-eight children (127 ears) were investigated. From this study it appeared that cleansing of the ear canal with 0.5% chlorhexidine in 70% ethanol for 30 s is partially effective; micro-organisms (diptheroids, Staphylococcus epidermidis) could still be isolated in 29%. In this paper the adsorption of amphiphilic phenothiazine drug Thioridazine hydrochloride (THCl) on Activated charcoal (AC) surface was studied in aqueous solutions. A ten-year-old male child presented with a large hepatic hydatid cyst which ruptured into the sub-diaphragmatic space and pericardial cavity, giving rise to a pericardial effusion. This communication between the hydatid cyst and the pericardium was documented on computerised tomographic scan of the chest and abdomen. The cyst was aspirated carefully and then enucleated. There was an associated right-sided reactionary pleural effusion. The pericardial effusion and pleural effusion resolved on albendazole therapy and did not require surgical intervention.

Clinoptilolite nano-particles (CNP) were modified by hexadecyltrimethyl ammonium bromide surfactant (HDTMA) and dithizone (DZ). Intestinal permeability has been investigated in the normal rat by measuring the five hour urine excretion of 51Cr-EDTA after intragastric administration. Twelve control animals excreted 2.06% +/- 0.22 (mean +/- SE) of the administered dose.
