Comparative Effects of High-Molecular-Weight Chitosan and Chitosan Oligosaccharide Lactate on Metabolic Adjustment and Salinity Tolerance in Cucumis sativus L.

Salinity is one of the most harmful abiotic factors limiting crop productivity. Chitosan is a natural polysaccharide biostimulant able to alleviate salt stress, but its efficiency depends on its physicochemical properties, which remain insufficiently understood. The present study aimed to determine whether two chemically distinct forms of chitosan, i.e., high-molecular-weight chitosan (ChT) and chitosan oligosaccharide lactate (ChL), differentially mitigate the adverse effects of NaCl-induced salinity in cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.). Plants were grown hydroponically under control conditions o

Enhanced wound healing and antimicrobial efficacy of PHMB-loaded injectable chitosan/quaternary chitosan/NaHCO3/β-glycerophosphate hydrogels for seawater-infected wounds.

Bacterial infection is often linked to delayed wound healing. Seawater immersion further increases the risk of wound infection from bacteria in the water. A suitable wound environment is important for healing. In this study, to promote the healing of seawater immersion wounds, an injectable thermosensitive chitosan /quaternary chitosan/NaHCO3/β-glycerophosphate hydrogel wound dressings loaded with polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB) was developed. The physicochemical properties of the hydrogel were characterized, and antimicrobial and wound-healing capabilities were assessed. The hydrogel showe

Study on transdermal delivery system of sulforaphane chitosan nanoparticles based on methacryloylated chitosan microneedles: application in the treatment of irritant contact dermatitis.

Treatment of irritant contact dermatitis (ICD) is limited by the stratum corneum barrier, which hinders drug delivery and bioavailability. Sulforaphane (SFN) offers anti-inflammatory potential but suffers from poor stability and a short half-life. To address this, we developed a chitosan methacrylate (CSMA) hydrogel microneedle (MN) patch loaded with SFN-chitosan nanoparticles (SFN-CSNPs) for enhanced transdermal delivery.Network pharmacology identified 33 potential ICD-related targets of SFN, including SRC, EGFR, and JAK2, implicating pathways such as AGE-RAGE and Relaxin signaling. SFN-CSNPs

Isolation and characterization of Chitosan from shrimp shell waste and the sustainable preparation of salicylic acid-loaded Chitosan nanoparticles for antibiofilm applications.

Microbial biofilms present a significant global health challenge, as they are associated with severe chronic infections and the emergence of antibiotic resistance. Currently, only a limited number of clinically available drugs effectively target microbial biofilms. This underscores the urgent need for the development of new sustainable therapeutic strategies to address biofilm-associated infections. Developing a sustainable and biodegradable preparation for eradicating microbial biofilms is critically important. In this study, chitosan was extracted from shrimp shell waste and utilized to prep

Mercaptonicotinic acid activated thiolated chitosan (MNA-TG-chitosan) to enable peptide oral delivery by opening cell tight junctions and enhancing transepithelial transport.

Recent advances in peptide delivery and nanotechnology has resulted in emergence of several non-parenteral administration routes that replace subcutaneous injections associated with patient discomfort. Thiolated biopolymers are relatively new materials being explored to enhance mucoadhesivity and permeability in these efforts, yet their pH dependent reactivity remains an obstacle. This work focussed on improving the mucoadhesivity of thiolated chitosans by activating them with mercaptonicotinic acid, in a bid to create a novel thiomerized chitosan that can open cell tight junctions for applica

Viral diseases pose a significant threat to aquatic animal health, and no effective treatment is currently available. Vaccines represent the most efficient approach to preventing viral infections. Because of the aquatic habitat, injection-based vaccination is time-consuming and labor-intensive, whereas oral vaccines lack a suitable delivery system. This study aimed to prepare N,O-Carboxymethyl Chitosan (NOCMS)-Chitosan (CS) nanoparticles (NOCMS-CS NPs) via a self-assembly method for the delivery of inactivated largemouth bass ranavirus (LMBV) vaccine (LMBV-iV). Delivery of Anticancer Gold-Dithiocarbamate via Thiolated Chitosan Nanoparticles.

Thiolated chitosan nanoparticles (TCNs) are versatile biomaterials with applications in tissue engineering, coatings, wound healing, and drug delivery. Their biodegradability and ability to conjugate sulfhydryl-containing payloads make TCNs attractive as carriers for controlled therapeutic delivery. However, the nanodelivery of metallodrugs remains challenging because of instability and premature ligand exchange under physiological conditions. Developing robust strategies that enable the delivery of intact metal-based therapeutics is, therefore, of significant interest. Here, we exploit the re

Contact Lenses Incorporating Methotrexate-Loaded Chitosan/Hyaluronic Acid Nanoparticles.

Nanoparticle-laden contact lenses (CLs) represent a promising strategy for ocular drug delivery. Nanocarriers built from hyaluronic acid and chitosan offer a biomimetic alternative to synthetic polymers, by combining the lubricating property of hyaluronic acid with the mucoadhesive property of chitosan. However, achieving sustained drug release without compromising lens properties remains challenging, and the influence of lens material and replacement modality is unclear. This study evaluated methotrexate (MTX)-loaded chitosan/hyaluronic acid (CS/HA) nanoparticles incorporated into silicone hy
