SOLITARY IDIOPATHIC CHOROIDITIS IN THE SETTING OF EXTENSIVE ANIMAL EXPOSURE.

PURPOSE: To describe solitary idiopathic choroiditis in the setting of extensive animal exposure. METHODS: A 56-year-old asymptomatic female equestrian with an extensive history of exposure to horses and dogs and a trapper of wild animals and rodents was discovered to have an amelanotic choroidal mass in the macular region and referred for suspicious atypical nevus. RESULTS: Funduscopy revealed a deep yellow mass with overlying retinal pigment epithelial thinning and without visible subretinal fluid or lipofuscin. Mild hyperautofluorescence represented unmasking of scleral autofluorescence.

Choroiditis and meningitis in experimental murine infection with Listeria monocytogenes.

In a study of central nervous system involvement in experimental listeriosis 27 Swiss CD1 mice were inoculated subcutaneously with Listeria monocytogenes. Systemic infection developed, as shown by the isolation of Listeria monocytogenes and histopathological lesions in the spleen and liver. In the central nervous system a mixed inflammatory infiltration in the ventricular system, especially in the choroid plexus, and leptomeningitis were the most relevant lesions. Inflammatory lesions were associated with the presence of Listeria monocytogenes, as demonstrated by a positive anti-Listeria monoc

Juxtapapillary choroiditis associated with chronic meningitis due to Coccidioides immitis.

A 73-year-old man had chronic meningitis of uncertain origin. Ophthalmologic examination revealed juxtapapillary choroiditis with an associated localized serous retinal detachment. Subsequent laboratory evaluation demonstrated absent serum complement-fixing antibody titers to Coccidioides immitis, but serological examination of the CSF demonstrated an antibody titer of 1:2. The final diagnostic impression was that of chronic meningitis in association with juxtapapillary choroiditis due to C immitis.

The long-term course of multifocal choroiditis (presumed ocular histoplasmosis).

We studied 40 patients with the presumed ocular histoplasmosis triad for ten to 15 years. Another patient developed the choroidal features of the syndrome in previously normal eyes. The basic lesion is a nodular choroidal infiltrate that evolves from clinically and angiographically normal retina. It is initially hypofluorescent and has an overlying serous detachment. It evolves through episodes of serous detachment and hyperfluorescence into a choroidal scar with breaks in Bruch's membrane and occasional subretinal neovascularization. Seven of 42 eyes (16.6%) developed new choroidal infiltrate

HIGHER SUBFOVEAL CHOROIDAL THICKNESS IN CHOROIDAL MELANOMAS THAN IN CHOROIDAL NEVI.

PURPOSE: To compare subfoveal choroidal thickness between eyes with choroidal melanoma and choroidal nevi. METHODS: Retrospective study of 126 consecutive patients in a tertiary ocular oncology center. Eyes with tumors located less than two disk diameters from the fovea were excluded. In eyes with nevi, factors of potential transformation into melanoma were recorded (orange pigment, subretinal fluid, thickness >2 mm, diameter >5 mm, ultrasound hollowness). Subfoveal choroidal thickness was assessed by three independent observers on horizontal spectral-domain optical coherence tomography scans

Bilateral ampiginous choroiditis after COVID-19: a report of two cases.

Ampiginous choroiditis is a disease that includes features of both acute posterior multifocal placoid pigment epitheliopathy and serpiginous choroiditis. This article presents two patients who were diagnosed with ampiginous choroiditis in our clinic. A 28-year-old female patient presented to our clinic with blurred vision that had persisted for 2 weeks. Her best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 20/20. Her medical history included a COVID-19 infection about 1 month before. Fundoscopic examination revealed multiple grayish-yellow lesions with irregular borders and pseudopodial extensions, invo

[Acute posterior multifocal placoid pigment epitheliopathy, serpiginous choroiditis and related diseases].

Acute Posterior Multifocal Placoid Pigment Epitheliopathy (APMPPE) and serpiginous choroiditis are two diseases classified as "white spot syndromes." Both are inflammatory/autoimmune diseases with suspected primary involvement of the choriocapillaris. The former usually has an excellent prognosis, while the latter can rapidly induce legal blindness. Whereas these diseases are well defined and well known, other entities (such as persistent placoid maculopathy or ampiginous choroiditis) with features of both APMPPE and serpiginous choroiditis have been described more recently. This review aims t

Dexamethasone intravitreal implants in the management of tubercular multifocal serpiginoid choroiditis.

BACKGROUND: Continuous progression of lesions despite an adequate treatment has been described in tubercular multifocal serpiginoid choroiditis. Reported treatments for this paradoxical response include systemic steroids, immunosuppressive drugs, and intravitreal methotrexate. We describe the use of dexamethasone intravitreal implants in a patient presenting with this condition. FINDINGS: A 46-year-old woman sought medical attention for scotomas in her left eye. Tests suggested multifocal serpiginoid choroiditis associated with latent tuberculosis infection, and hence, she was started on anti

Multifocal choroiditis following simultaneous hepatitis A, typhoid, and yellow fever vaccination.

The paper describes the first reported case of multifocal choroiditis following simultaneous hepatitis-A, typhoid, and yellow fever vaccinations. A 33-year-old male developed sudden onset of flashing lights and floaters in his right eye 3 weeks following hepatitis A, typhoid, and yellow fever vaccinations. Fundus examination and angiography confirmed the presence of multiple peripheral chorioretinal lesions. These lesions demonstrated characteristic morphologic changes over a period of 8 weeks which were consistent with a diagnosis of self-resolving multifocal choroiditis. Vaccine-induced intr
