Underlying mechanism behind the dynamic mechanical behavior of sandstone with varying moisture content under medium speed impact.

Due to the long-term effects of water erosion and stress disturbance, the rock characteristics and pressure distribution of underground coal mine reservoirs will change, affecting the stability of the dam body. Therefore, the mechanical properties of rock under different water content and impact load are the key factors affecting the stability of the surrounding rock. In this paper, the quantitative relationship between dynamic compressive strength, strain, and fractal dimension of coarse sandstone and fine sandstone under different water content were studied by drop weight impact tests. Uniaxial Compression Constitutive Behavior of Mixed Recycled Brick-Aggregate Concrete After Carbonation.

Mixed recycled brick-aggregate concrete (MRBAC), produced by substituting natural coarse aggregates with crushed waste bricks and waste concrete, serves as a promising approach for the resource utilization of construction solid waste and boasts broad engineering application prospects. At present, few studies have established uniaxial compressive constitutive models for MRBAC after accelerated carbonation, which restricts its structural application. In this study, 16 groups of specimens were fabricated with four replacement ratios of recycled brick aggregate (RBA)-0%, 10%, 20%, and 30%-as well

Effect of Phosphoric Acid and Soluble Phosphate on the Properties of Magnesium Oxychloride Cement.

This study investigates the effects of phosphoric acid (H3PO4), potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KH2PO4) and sodium dihydrogen phosphate (NaH2PO4) admixtures on the setting time, compressive strength and water resistance of magnesium oxychloride cement (MOC). MOC samples incorporating different admixtures are prepared, and their hydration products and microstructures are studied via X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results indicate that the addition of H3PO4, KH2PO4 and NaH2PO4 reduces the initial and final setting times and decreases the compressive strength.

Experimental study on dynamic mechanical properties and damage mechanisms models of concrete under freeze-thaw cycles.

Freeze-thaw (F-T) cycles represent a major driver of concrete deterioration in cold regions, significantly compromising structural integrity. In this research, uniaxial compression tests on concrete subjected to F-T cycles at different strain rates were carried out, and an evolution model for dynamic mechanical properties was developed to clarify the associated degradation mechanisms. Results show that F-T cycles reduce compressive strength and elastic modulus while concurrently increasing residual and peak strains. The strain rate sensitivity of compressive strength, peak strain, and elastic

Improvement in Bending Strength of Silicon Nitride through Laser Peening.

This study aimed to improve the bending strength and reliability of ceramics using laser peening (LP). In the experiment, LP without coating (LPwC) and with coating (LPC) were applied to silicon nitride (Si3N4) under various conditions. The surface roughness, residual stress, and bending strength were then measured for the non-LP, LPwC, and LPC specimens. The results show that the LPwC specimen had a greater surface roughness but introduced larger and deeper compressive residual stress when compared with the non-LP and LPC specimens. In addition, the bending strength of the LPwC specimen was h

Effect of kaolin addition on the performance of controlled low-strength material using industrial waste incineration bottom ash.

Incineration of industrial waste produces large quantities of bottom ash which are normally sent to secured landfill, but is not a sustainable solution. Use of bottom ash in engineering applications will contribute to sustainability and generate revenue. One way of using the industrial waste incineration bottom ash is in controlled low-strength material (CLSM). Use of bottom ash in CLSM has problems related to bleeding and excessive strength development and so an additive has to be used to control bleeding and strength development. The main objective of this research is to study the effect of

Degradation Behavior and Damage Evolution Model of Sandstone under Coupled Stress-Temperature-Chemical Action.

Seepage from water-rich strata and persistent roof water inflow during coal mining can substantially weaken the mechanical properties of coal and rock masses. Elevated in situ stress and geothermal temperature in deep roadways further accelerate deterioration and increase the risk of engineering instability. In this study, sandstone, a common coal-seam roof rock, was selected as the test material. Immersion and uniaxial compression tests were conducted under coupled thermal-alkaline water conditions. Scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction analyses were used to clarify the strength

Research on crack evolution law and macroscopic failure mode of joint Phyllite under uniaxial compression.

In order to explore the fracture mechanism of jointed Phyllite, the TAJW-2000 rock mechanics test system is used to carry out uniaxial compression tests on different joint inclination Phyllites. The influence of joint inclination of Phyllite failure mode is discussed, and the progressive failure process of Phyllite is studied. The test results show that the uniaxial compressive strength anisotropy of jointed Phyllite is remarkable. As the inclination increases, it exhibits a U-shaped change; When 30° ≤ α ≤ 75°, the tensile and shear failures along the joint inclination mainly occurs. the joint

BACKGROUND: In a previous article, we used the PMMA cervical cage in the treatment of single-level cervical disk disease and the preliminary clinical results were satisfactory. However, the mechanical properties of the PMMA cage were not clear. Therefore, we designed a comparative in vitro biomechanical study to determine the mechanical properties of the PMMA cage. METHODS: The PMMA cervical cage and the Solis PEEK cervical cage were compressed in a materials testing machine to determine the mechanical properties. RESULTS: The compressive yield strength of the PMMA cage (7030 +/- 637 N) was
