Immediate coronary catheterization is mandatory for high risk patients with typical chest pain in the emergency department (ED). In contrast, in ED patients with acute chest pain but low to intermediate risk, traditional management protocol includes serial ECG, cardiac troponins and radionuclide perfusion imaging. However, this protocol is time-consuming and expensive, and definite treatment of unstable angina is often delayed. Due to advances of multi-detector CT (MDCT) technology, dedicated coronary CT angiography provides the potential to rapidly and reliably diagnose or exclude acute coron

PURPOSE: Adult coronary artery congenital anomalies prevalence ranges between 1% and 5.6% in general population. Although many of these anomalies are benign, asymptomatic, and discovered incidentally, some of them can be associated with serious cardiovascular events that may lead to sudden cardiac death. Coronary CT angiography (CCTA) is noninvasive imaging modality that can reliably detect these anomalies. The aim of our study is to study the prevalence and spectrum of coronary arteries congenital anomalies in patients referred to CCTA.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: This study is retrospective medic

BACKGROUND: Coronary angiography (CAG) plays a critical role in the detailed anatomical assessment of coronary artery lesions (CALs) during the early recovery phase of Kawasaki disease (KD) in children. However, its practical experience and reported outcomes in pediatric populations remain limited.
OBJECTIVE: To summarize the coronary angiographic features and evaluate the safety and feasibility of CAG in children with KD complicated by CALs.
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical and angiographic data of 15 consecutive children with KD complicated by CAL (KD-CAL) who underwent CA

Over the last 30 years, the widespread use of cardiac biomarkers has transformed the diagnostic evaluation of patients with coronary heart disease. Cardiac troponin is integral to the definition of acute myocardial infarction. High-sensitivity cardiac troponin (hs-cTn) assays can improve risk stratification to facilitate both the rapid rule out of myocardial infarction and prediction of future cardiovascular events. Numerous circulating biomarkers representing different pathological pathways improve prediction of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ACVD) and coronary artery disease (CAD).

The clinical significance of central beyond brachial blood pressure (BP) remains unclear. In patients who underwent coronary angiography, the authors explored whether elevated central BP would be associated with coronary arterial disease (CAD) irrespective of the status of brachial hypertension. From March 2021 to April 2022, 335 patients (mean age 64.9 years, 69.9% men) hospitalized for suspected CAD or unstable angina were screened in an ongoing trial. CAD was defined if a coronary stenosis of ≥50%. According to the presence of brachial (non-invasive cuff systolic BP ≥140 mmHg or diastolic B

Coronary artery aneurysm with fistula is a relatively rare disease. After surgery, residual coronary fistula is often a problem. To prevent these problems, we perform coronary angiography during surgery, and have good grades. A 70-year-old-woman was admitted to our hospital with a chief complaint of palpitations. Enhanced computed tomography (CT) showed coronary aneurysms. Coronary angiography confirmed the coronary artery aneurysms with fistula to the pulmonary artery. Surgical intervention in the hybrid operating room was performed through median sternotomy with cardiopulmonary bypass. The f

AIMS: To investigate the association between plasma proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) concentrations, current acute coronary syndrome (ACS), coronary artery disease (CAD) presence, severity and extension and the burden of coronary calcifications in patients with suspected CAD.
METHODS AND RESULTS: One hundred and one patients, with or without current ACS, were recruited for this cross-sectional study. CAD presence was defined based on either the presence or absence of at least one significant (≥50%) CAD lesion (SCAD). CAD severity was classified according to the absence of

Anomalies of the coronary arteries are congenital and in most of the cases asymptomatic, although they may present with severe symptoms such as angina pectoris or cardiac arrest. Multidetector CT coronary angiography (MDCT-CA) permits, through curved multiplanar reconstructions and three-dimensional reformatting, noninvasive visualisation of the coronary tree and its variants and anomalies, providing a more accurate alternative to conventional coronary angiography (CCA). The purpose of this pictorial essay is to describe the main variants and anomalies of the coronary arteries using MDCT imagi

Single coronary artery is a rare congenital anomaly of the coronary arteries where only one coronary artery arises from the aortic trunk by a single coronary ostium, supplying the entire heart. A database consisting of the angiographic reports of 50,000 consecutive coronary angiographies performed in adult patients in the University Hospital of Leuven between March 1973 and August 1991 was searched for the diagnosis of single coronary artery. All films concerned were reviewed and classified according to their anatomical type. Thirty-three cases of single coronary artery were retrieved, yieldin

This study prospectively evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of 64-slice computed tomographic angiography (CTA) in assessing the patency of coronary artery bypass grafts compared with invasive coronary angiography. In total 147 bypass grafts (100 venous grafts and 47 mammary artery grafts) were evaluated in 50 consecutive patients. Contrast-enhanced 64-slice CTA was performed and compared with invasive angiography. The computed tomographic angiographic scan protocol used 64- x 0.5-mm slice collimation and 0.33-second gantry rotation time during simultaneous electrocardiographic gating. Patients

Limited data exist regarding the outcomes of patients with nonobstructive coronary artery disease (CAD) detected by computed tomography coronary angiography (CTCA) or invasive coronary angiography (ICA). Our aim was to compare the prognosis of patients with nonobstructive coronary artery plaques with that of patients with entirely normal arteries. The MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, and Embase databases were searched. Studies comparing the prognosis of individuals with nonobstructive CAD versus normal coronary arteries detected by CTCA or ICA were included. The primary outcome was major adverse car

BACKGROUND: Coronary computed tomography angiography stenosis score (CCTA-SS) is a proposed diagnosis score that considers the plaque characteristics, myocardial function, and the diameter reduction rate of the lesions. This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic performance of the CCTA-SS in seeking coronary artery disease (CAD).
METHODS: The 228 patients with suspected CAD who underwent CCTA and invasive coronary angiography (ICA) procedures were under examination. The diagnostic performance was evaluated with the receiver operating curve (ROC) for CCTA-SS in detecting CAD (defined as a dia

Coronary artery anomalies are a rare and often occasional finding at coronary angiography. When patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) undergo angiography preliminary to a primary percutaneous coronary intervention, a 'missing' coronary artery is usually ascribed to the culprit occluded vessel. Two patients with inferior STEMI were admitted to our cath lab for a primary percutaneous coronary intervention; in both cases an anomalous origin of the left coronary system--partially in one, entirely in the another--from the opposite sinus was documented at urgent angiography. The kn

Under 35 years of age, 14% of sudden cardiac death in athletes is caused by a coronary artery anomaly (CAA). Free-breathing 3-dimensional magnetic resonance coronary angiography (3D-MRCA) has the potential to screen for CAA in athletes and non-athletes as an addition to a clinical cardiac MRI protocol. A 360 healthy men and women (207 athletes and 153 non-athletes) aged 18-60 years (mean age 31 +/- 11 years, 37% women) underwent standard cardiac MRI with an additional 3D-MRCA within a maximum of 10 min scan time. The 3D-MRCA was screened for CAA. A 335 (93%) subjects had a technically satisfac

Catheter-induced coronary artery dissection and occlusion is a rare but serious complication of diagnostic cardiac angiography. A 50 year-old man presented with unstable angina. ECG, exceptional of bradycardia, was normal (57 beat/min). Selective coronary angiography demonstrated 98% narrowing in the mid-portion of the left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD). During the right coronary angiography, following catheter manipulation in the vicinity of the aortic valve, the patient complained of severe chest discomfort, and he had electrocardiographic evidence of acute inferior wall myocardi
