Analyzing the Role of Malnourishment in Malocclusion: A Cross-sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: Malocclusion is defined as an occlusion in which there is malrelationship between the arches in any of the three planes or anomalies in tooth position beyond normal limits, the etiology being multifactorial. Malnutrition may also be allied to malocclusion, predominantly crowding, due to insufficient space for the teeth to erupt in the correct place. OBJECTIVES: The present study was conducted to investigate the role of diet as an etiological factor in the occurrence of malocclusion. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Two hundred and twenty malnourished subjects were examined by a single expe

Determinants of serum adiponectin levels: a cross-sectional study.

OBJECTIVES: To review non-surgical prevention strategies in women with hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndromes. CONTENT: Women with a gBRCA1 or 2 mutations face a high cumulative breast and ovarian cancer risk. While bilateral mastectomy (PBM) and bilateral salpingo-oophrectomy (PBSO) profoundly reduce the respective cancer risks, they are also associated with considerable side effects. There is therefore an urgent need for alternative and non-surgical risk reduction options. Tamoxifen and aromatase inhibitors have both been evaluated in secondary prevention, but their benefit in prima

Sub-classification of Hidradenitis suppurativa: a cross-sectional study.

The typical Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) patient is a young woman with axillary and groin involvement, but the spectrum of the disease presentation is broad and no internationally acknowledged sub-classification of the disease exists to date. It is however speculated that different, yet unidentified, subtypes may respond differently to different treatments or carry a different prognosis. Classification according to self-reported clinically meaningful outcomes for patients offer practical advantages. Our objective was to build an empirical framework for sub-classification of HS patients based

Neck circumference is associated with hyperuricemia: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE: Neck circumference (NC) is associated with metabolic abnormalities, independent of other obesity indices. However, data are limited regarding the potential relation between NC and serum uric acid (UA) concentrations. Therefore, we evaluated the cross-sectional association between NC and UA concentration, and odds of having hyperuricemia in a community-based cohort. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: The current study included 87,782 participants (16,317 women and 71,465 men, 52.2 ± 14.1 y) of the Kailuan Study. NC and UA concentration were measured in 2014. We used generalized linear
