[Angiomatous cutaneous lesions revealing arteriovenous fistulas (author's transl)].

Reports of Bluefarb-Stewart syndrome have been infrequent. Two observations of this condition are described. Both patients are young men who presented with extensive angiomatous lesions of the feet, revealing distal arteriovenous fistulas. Surgical treatment was successful in one patient. Diagnostic criteria are discussed. As to pathogenesis the most likely hypothesis is that the arteriovenous fistulas are congenital. Bluefarb-Stewart syndrome can therefore be classified as one of the angiodysplasias.

Cutaneous fistula of the breast: A complication of cosmetic autologous fat transfer.

Autologous fat transfer is a growing cosmetic procedure which is most often well tolerated with generally low rate of complications, the majority of which occur in the immediate post-treatment period. The procedure has been more recently applied to the breast as an alternative to traditional prosthetic augmentation. We present a case of a delayed cutaneous fistula, which occurred 18 months following fat transfer procedure, in a 34-year-old female. The patient presented with increasing pain and dermal erythema. Mammographic appearance evolved from a typical thin-walled liponecrotic cyst to a de

A Rare Case of Cutaneous-Urachovesicoenteric Fistula in a Patient With Crohn's Disease.

Entero-Uracho Vesicle fistulae are a rare sequelae of aggressive Crohn's disease, with only a small number of case reports being available in the literature. Such cases are most often managed via sepsis and skin care, nutrition, anatomy, and plan (SNAP) principles, with many Crohn's fistulas requiring complex surgical intervention to definitively deal with the offending fistulous tracts. We present a case with an even rarer consequence of uncontrolled Crohn's disease despite immunomodulatory therapy in a 34-year-old male who presented with an entero-uracho vesicle fistula, which was managed su

Use of a submandibular gland flap for closure of oral cutaneous fistula.

We reported a rare case of submandibular oral cutaneous fistula (OCF) in a 27-year-old female. A submandibular gland flap (SMGF) was prepared after fistula resection to fill the dead space under the mouth floor. Based on this case report and a literature review, we discussed the pathogenesis and treatment of OCF, and compared the differences between the SMGF and other types of flaps.

Diagnosis and treatment of a rectal-cutaneous fistula: a rare complication of coccygectomy.

BACKGROUND: Coccygectomy may be indicated for the treatment of debilitating coccygodynia unresponsive to non-operative treatment. Perineal contamination and postoperative wound infection following coccygectomy remains a major concern. We present a rare post-coccygectomy complication of rectal-cutaneous fistula. To our knowledge no such case has been previously described. CASE PRESENTATION: A 24-year-old woman presented with recurrent wound infections 1 year after coccygectomy at another institution, which persisted despite two surgical debridements and antibiotic treatment. Wound cultures sho

Airbag trauma induced cutaneous fistulae in a heart transplant patient.

In recent years, trauma resulting from airbag inflation has been reported to cause skin injuries. These include minor abrasions and lacerations, chemical and thermal burns, and irritant dermatitis. We report what we believe to be the first case of airbag related cutaneous fistulae in a heart transplant patient. We believe that the increasing frequency of placement of subcutaneous and relatively superficial appliances in transplant and other surgical patients will result in an increasing frequency of similar injuries. Dermatologists may be uniquely suited to identify and treat such cutaneous tr

Percutaneous vascular plug in management of an acquired broncho pleural cutaneous fistula.

BACKGROUND: Bronchopleural fistula (BPF) / broncho pleural cutaneous fistula is an abnormal communication between the peripheral bronchial tree and pleural space which can further also open to the skin surface. It is associated with significant morbidity and mortality in addition to poor quality of life. Management requires a multidisciplinary approach with careful evaluation to choose the best approach to treatment. CASE PRESENTATION: A 36-year-old male presented with a left chest wall tumor with multiple surgeries and CT revealing a left apico-posterior segment broncho pleural cutaneous fis

Odontogenic Cutaneous Fistula-Induced Submandibular Abscess in a Dog: A Rare Presentation.

Odontogenic cutaneous fistulas (OCFs) are relatively uncommon in veterinary patients. They are typically caused by chronic periapical infections of the maxillary teeth. Mandibular OCFs that extend through the cortical bone into submandibular soft tissues are extremely rare. This report describes the case of a 14-year-old male mixed-breed dog that presented with a submandibular cutaneous lesion initially misdiagnosed as a salivary mucocele. OCFs are frequently misdiagnosed because atypical presentations may lack obvious intraoral abnormalities and mimic salivary gland disease, lymphadenopathy,

Aorto-Cutaneous Fistula after Surgical Treatment of Stanford Type A Aortic Dissection.

An aorto-cutaneous fistula is a rare complication that occurs after aortic surgery. Due to its rarity, postoperative complications are not normally highlighted in most standard teaching. We report here a case of aorto-cutaneous fistula after surgical treatment of a Stanford type A aortic dissection (AD) in a 67-year-old Chinese male. The patient presented with severe right heart dysfunction and a mass was found in the upper-middle of his chest, which started bleeding in the next years. On admission, preoperative aortic computed tomography angiography (CTA) showed a huge hematoma located in the

Cerebrospinal Fluid-Cutaneous Fistula After Continuous Spinal Catheter in an Obstetric Patient.

A 23-year-old woman at 41 weeks and 6 days estimated gestational age underwent continuous spinal analgesia for labor after a recognized, unintended dural puncture. Excellent analgesia was maintained throughout labor and vaginal delivery, the intrathecal catheter was left in situ for 24 hours postpartum, and the catheter was subsequently removed without apparent complication. On physical examination during her anesthesia postoperative visit, clear fluid was noted to be slowly draining from the catheter insertion site. Although she denied all symptoms associated with a dural puncture, including

Postauricular advancement fascio-cutaneo-periosteal flap for closure of mastoid cutaneous fistula.

BACKGROUND: Postauricular cutaneous mastoid fistula (PCMF) is a rare complication of chronic suppurative otitis media, may also complicate ear surgery and, very rarely, has been reported to complicate congenital cholesteatoma. Few authors have given descriptions of techniques of closure, with majority agreeing on the difficulty in managing such fistula due to the necrotic nature of the margin. SETTING: A tertiary care urban referral hospital in a developing economy. METHODOLOGY: A new technique of closure of PCMF is described. This technique utilizes the postauricular fascio-cutaneo-perioste

Cutaneous fistula of liver echinococcal cyst previously misdiagnosed as fistulizated rib osteomyelitis.

External fistulization or subcutaneous rupture of liver echinococcal cyst (EC) is found occasionally with total of 15 cases reported in the literature. We report a case of 60-year-old female previously misdiagnosed as fistulizated osteomyelitis of the 11(th) rib. At computed tomography scan, non-vital EC was noted in the third liver segment. Under suspicion of external fistulization of perforated EC the patient underwent one-stage operation-pericystectomy and complete fistula excision. A retrospective analysis of the reported cases in the literature was performed with special references to cla

[Pelvic hydatid cyst: differential diagnosis with a bacterial abscess with cutaneous fistula].

The genus Echinococcus is a worldwide tapeworm with a two host mammalian cycle. Among the six described species, Echinococcus granulosus (EG) and Echinococcus multilocularis are the most important in respect to their public health importance. Infected human, as an intermediate accidental host, presents single to several cysts, mainly located in the liver. We are describing the clinical, radiological and histological findings of a woman born in Morocco, recently arrived in France and presenting a pelvic hydatid cyst. The misknowledge of such a diagnosis conducted to initial surgery and thus a r

Hydatid disease presenting as cutaneous fistula: review of a rare clinical presentation.

Hydatid disease has a worldwide distribution as a result of more global travel. Liver and lungs are the most common sites for the primary hydatid cysts in the human body. We managed a 68-year-old man who presented with abdominal distension and umbilical fistula, discharging daughter cysts. Ultrasound imaging of the abdomen showed hepatic hydatid cyst forming a fistula at the umbilicus. The patient underwent a laparotomy with partial cystectomy and excision of the fistula tract. The umbilicus healed after the procedure. The patient did not have any recurrences in 5 years of follow-up. Spontaneo

Ano-cutaneous flap repair for complex and recurrent supra-sphincteric anal fistula.

BACKGROUND: Suprasphincteric fistulae remain the most difficult to cure. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the healing rate of suprasphincteric anal fistula treated by ano-cutaneous advancement flap repair, and the impact of this procedure on continence and quality of life. METHOD: Sixteen patients with complex, recurrent or chronic suprasphincteric fistulae associated with significant tissue damage (necrotizing fasciitis, keyhole deformity and anal stenosis) or who had failed previous surgical procedures were treated by ano-cutaneous flap closure. Placement of Palmaz stents in malignant duodenal stenosis through a cutaneous fistula.

This is the first report of palliative percutaneous treatment of a malignant duodenal stenosis due to cancer of the pancreatic head with Palmaz stents. A 65-year-old male with a malignant tumour of the pancreatic head developed an abscess with fistular communication to the cutis. In the subsequent course of the disease, tumour growth led to a severe duodenal stenosis. To dilate the tumorous stenosis, three Palmaz stents were introduced coaxially into the duodenum percutaneously, via the preexisting fistula. A technique to pass an almost 90 degrees kink is described. Symptomatic malignant duode
