Organic compounds with boron-nitrogen bonds are widely used as fluorescent sensors and semiconducting materials. This paper presents a new approach for the formation of B-N bonds via catalytic insertion of nitrenes into B-H bonds. The reaction proceeds most selectively for cyclic boranes with a 2-phenylpyridine framework and nitrenes generated in situ by the oxidation of sulfonamides and sulfamates. The most effective catalysts for this process are the readily available rhodium and ruthenium carboxylates of [M2(OOCR)4]X type. Complexes with carboxylate ligands NTTL derived from S-tert-leucine

Although nitric oxide (NO) production is increased in HIV-1-infected patients, and NO is known to inhibit the replication of several viruses, very little is known about the effects of NO on HIV-1 replication. In the present studies, we find that S-nitrosothiols (RSNOs), a class of NO donor compounds present in the human circulatory system, inhibit HIV-1 replication in acutely infected human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and have an additive inhibitory effect on HIV-1 replication in combination with 3'-azido-3'-deoxythymidylate (AZT). RSNOs inhibit HIV-1 replication in acutely infe

A highly sensitive electrochemical sensor using a calix[6]arene/bismuth ferrite/multiwall carbon nanotube-modified fluorine-doped tin oxide electrode (CA6/BFO/MWCNTs/FTO) was fabricated for the detection of methyl parathion. The MWCNTs, BFO, and CA6 were consecutively cast onto the FTO electrode surface to enhance the surface area, electron transfer, and selectivity of sensors. The electrochemical behavior of CA6/BFO/MWCNTs/FTO was studied via cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. MP was detected via cyclic voltammetry in a phosphate buffer solution at pH 7.0. The work

Increases in guanosine 3',5'-cyclic monophosphate (cGMP) induced by nitric oxide (NO), nitrovasodilators, and atrial peptides correlate with relaxation of vascular smooth muscle. Relaxation of myometrial smooth muscle by increases in cGMP, however, has required unusually high concentrations of the cyclic nucleotide. We tested the hypothesis that the sensitivity of myometrium to relaxation by cGMP is increased during pregnancy. Aortic smooth muscle was more sensitive to relaxation by cGMP than myometrial tissues, and, contrary to our hypothesis, myometrium from pregnant rats was least sensitive

Co3O4/rGO nanoparticles were used to modify a glassy carbon electrode (GCE), where reduced graphene oxide (rGO) serves as an intermediate between graphene and graphene oxide, featuring a carbon framework enriched with oxygen-containing hydrophilic functional groups. The structural and morphological characterization of the modified electrode was carried out using Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS). Electrochemical performance was evaluated through cyclic voltammetry (CV) and chronoamperometry, revea

Ultraviolet light (UV) radiation causes skin-tanning, which is thought to be mediated by stimulating the release of melanogenic factors from keratinocytes as well as other cells. Nitric oxide (NO) has been reported to be generated after UV radiation and to stimulate melanocytes as one of the melanogens. In a previous experiment by another group on melanogenesis induced by NO, increases in both tyrosinase activity and tyrosinase protein levels were observed after daily stimulation of NO for 4 days. In the present study, we investigated tyrosinase gene expression within the first 24 hr of NO-ind

Sulfidized nanoscale zerovalent iron (S-nZVI) has been recognized as a promising reductant for treating trichloroethylene-contaminated groundwater. However, its superior reductive capacity appears to be contaminant-specific, showing limited efficacy toward other chlorinated and nitroaromatic compounds. In this study, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a representative natural polyphenol, was combined with S-nZVI to amplify the atomic hydrogen (H*) pathway for decontamination. The S-nZVI/EGCG system demonstrated enhanced reduction reactivity for chloramphenicol (CAP) degradation, with the kobs va

Periodontitis is notable for its high prevalence in the oral cavity and its association with systemic diseases. Functional alterations in vasomotor activity occur in the arteries of rats with mild periodontitis, primarily due to decreased soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC) enzyme activity. This study aims to investigate the functional response of mesenteric resistance arteries (MRA) obtained from rats with mild periodontitis. Vascular reactivity of MRAs from rats in the ligature (L) or sham (S) groups was assessed using a wire myograph. Additionally, antioxidant enzyme activity, the presence of n

Stable nitroxide radicals are potent antioxidants and are among the most effective non-thiol radioprotectants, although they react with hydroxyl radicals more slowly than typical phenolic antioxidants or thiols. Surprisingly, the reduced forms of cyclic nitroxides, cyclic hydroxylamines, are better reductants yet have no radioprotective activity. To clarify the reason for this difference, we studied the kinetics and mechanisms of the reactions of nitroxides and their hydroxylamines with (*)OH radicals and with OH-adducts by using pulse radiolysis, fluorimetric determination of phenolic radiati

Vascular endothelial dysfunction is an important pathogenic factor in hypertension, in which angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) plays an important role. Peptides that bind to ACE may attenuate vascular endothelial dysfunction by altering the structure of ACE. This study demonstrated that ITAPHW and IRPNGL were resistant to simulated gastrointestinal fluid and were transported across the Caco-2 monolayer via the intercellular space, with ITAPHW showing a high apparent permeability coefficient of (1.44 ± 0.01) × 10-5 cm/s. Subsequently, multispectral analysis and molecular dynamic simulation re

Elevated concentration of homocysteine (Hcy) in human tissues, definied as hyperhomocysteinemia has been correlated with some diseases, such as cardiovascular, neurodegenerative, and kidney disorders. Homocysteine occurs in human blood plasma in several forms, including the most reactive one, the homocysteine thiolactone (HTL) - a cyclic thioester, which represents up to 0.29% of total plasma Hcy. In the article, the effects of hyperhomocysteinemia on the complex process of hemostasis, which regulates the flowing properties of blood, are described. Possible interactions of homocysteine and its

BACKGROUND: Nitric oxide (NO), carbon monoxide (CO), and hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) are bioactive gasotransmitters implicated in migraine pathophysiology. These gases regulate vascular tone, nociceptive transmission, and inflammatory pathways, playing key roles in both the onset and modulation of migraine.
METHODS: This review synthesizes current evidence on the role of NO, CO, and H₂S in migraine, focusing on their molecular mechanisms, interactions, and potential therapeutic implications. Data from human and animal studies were analyzed to elucidate their contributions to migraine pathogenesis.

Persulfides (RSS-) are ubiquitous source of sulfides (S2-) in biology, and interactions between RSS- and bioinorganic metal centers play critical roles in biological hydrogen sulfide (H2S) biogenesis, signaling, and catabolism. Here, we report the use of contact-ion stabilized [Na(15-crown-5)][tBuSS] (1) as a simple synthon to access rare metal alkyl persulfide complexes and to investigate the reactivity of RSS- with transition metal centers to provide insights into metal thiolate persulfidation, including the fundamental difference between alkyl persulfides and alkyl thiolates. Open-ended, singly metalated dithiolene complexes with 1,2,4,5-tetrakis(diphenylphosphino)benzene (tpbz) are prepared either by ligand transfer to [Cl2M(tpbz)] from (R2C2S2)SnR'2 (R = CN, R' = Me; R = Me, R' = nBu) or by a direct reaction between tpbz and [M(S2C2R2)2] (M = Ni, Pd, Pt; R = Ph, p-anisyl) in a 1:1 ratio. The formation of dimetallic [(R2C2S2)M(tpbz)M(S2C2R2)] attends these syntheses in modest amounts, but the open-ended compounds are readily separated by silica chromatography. As affirmed by X-ray crystallographic characterization of numerous members of the set, the [(R2C2S2)M(tpb

Major voltage-activated ionic channels of stellate cells in the ventral part of cochlear nucleus (CN) were largely characterized previously. However, it is not known if these cells are equipped with other ion channels apart from the voltage-sensitive ones. In the current study, it was aimed to study subunit composition and function of ATP-sensitive potassium channels (KATP) in stellate cells of the ventral cochlear nucleus. Subunits of KATP channels, Kir6.1, Kir6.2, SUR1, and SUR2, were expressed at the mRNA level and at the protein level in the mouse VCN tissue. The specific and clearly visib

The validity of Marcus theory for outer-sphere heterogeneous electron transfer for the electro-oxidation of a range of anthracene derivatives in alkyl cyanide solvents is investigated. The precision measurement of these fast electron transfers (k(0) >or= 1 cm s(-1)) is achieved by use of the high-speed channel electrode and, where necessary, fast-scan cyclic voltammetry. First, the solvent effect on the rate of electron transfer is studied by considering the first oxidation wave of 9,10-diphenylanthracene in the alkyl cyanide solvents: acetonitrile, propionitrile, butyronitrile, and valeronitr

Nitric oxide (NO.) does not react significantly with thiol groups under physiological conditions, whereas a variety of endogenous NO donor molecules facilitate rapid transfer to thiol of nitrosonium ion (NO+, with one less electron than NO.). Here, nitrosonium donors are shown to decrease the efficacy of evoked neurotransmission while increasing the frequency of spontaneous miniature excitatory postsynaptic currents (mEPSCs). In contrast, pure NO donors have little effect (displaying at most only a slight increase) on the amplitude of evoked EPSCs and frequency of spontaneous mEPSCs in our pre
