Dancing at the end of the world? Psychoanalysis, climate change and joy.

This paper attempts to join the dots between psychoanalytic and post-psychoanalytic perspectives in relation to climate change and the ecological crisis and to begin a discussion on the role of joy in sustaining ourselves in the face of the global catastrophe. There is a vital expanding psychoanalytic literature addressing itself to the environmental crisis but a striking absence on joy and what stands in its way. This paper explores what psychoanalysis has to offer in the context of planetary emergency and also asks psychoanalysis to look beyond itself and reimagine what it can be. Joy involv

A delayed presentation of bilateral leg compartment syndrome following non-stop dancing.

We present the case of a young man with a 48 h delayed presentation of bilateral lower limb acute compartment syndrome (ACS) affecting the anterior compartments following an extended period of dancing at a music festival. On making the diagnosis of ACS, the patient was immediately taken to theatre for fasciotomies and compartmental decompression. Repeat look fasciotomies revealed further necrosis to the muscles of the anterior compartments bilaterally and, effectively, all the muscle bellies within the anterior compartments were excised. The patient has been left with a significant functional

Teaching Video NeuroImage: Status Epilepticus Manifesting as Belly Dancing Secondary to Subdural Hematoma.

A 74-year-old man developed involuntary rhythmic contractions of his left abdomen, after drainage of a chronic right frontoparietal subdural hematoma (Figure). These movements had electroencephalographic correlation with periodic lateralized discharges over the right posterior quadrant (Video 1, Figure) and were classified as clonic abdominal seizures. Clonic abdominal seizures are a rare clinical finding in patients with seizure disorders. The symptomatogenic zone most commonly localizes to the contralateral paracentral frontoparietal region.1 Possible etiologies include primary brain tumors,

"Dancing eye syndrome" secondary to opsoclonus-myoclonus syndrome in small-cell lung cancer.

Among paraneoplastic neurologic disorders (PND), opsoclonus-myoclonus syndrome, so-called "dancing eye syndrome," is a rare disorder combining multivectorial eye movements, involuntary multifocal myoclonus, and cerebellar ataxia. Although several paraneoplastic antibodies against postsynaptic or cell-surface antigens have been reported, usually most patients are serum antibody negative. We report a 65-year-old patient with opsoclonus-myoclonus syndrome revealing a small-cell lung carcinoma. If serologic antineuronal anti-body screening was negative, autoantibodies against glutamic acid decarbo

Dance PREEMIE, a Dance PaRticipation intervention for Extremely prEterm children with Motor Impairment at prEschool age: an Australian feasibility trial protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Children born extremely preterm (EP: <28 weeks gestation) and/or extremely low birth weight (ELBW: <1000 g) are at increased risk of motor impairment compared with children born at term. Children with motor impairment have lower rates of physical activity (PA) participation compared with their typically developing peers. PA participation is an important outcome for children with motor impairment, however, there is limited evidence available to support interventions that improve PA participation in this population. The aim of this study is to assess the feasibility, including the

Dancing with KAT6A: Current advances and therapeutic potential in oncology of KAT6A inhibitors.

KAT6 A (lysine acetyltransferase 6 A) is a member of the MYST family of histone acetyltransferases (HATs) that plays a pivotal role in regulating gene expression through the acetylation of histones and non-histone proteins. Dysregulation of KAT6A has been implicated in various cancers, making it an attractive target for therapeutic intervention. Over the past, significant advancements have been made in the development of small-molecule KAT6A inhibitors. PF-07248144 has shown antitumor activity in estrogen receptor-positive (ER+) breast cancer models and is currently undergoing clinical evaluat

Therapeutic Argentine Tango Dancing for People with Mild Parkinson's Disease: A Feasibility Study.

BACKGROUND: Individuals living with Parkinson's disease (PD) can experience a range of movement disorders that affect mobility and balance and increase the risk of falls. Low health-related quality of life, depression, and anxiety are more common in people with PD than age-matched comparisons. Therapeutic dance is a form of physical activity believed to facilitate movement and therapy uptake. As well as being enjoyable, dancing is thought to improve mobility, balance, and well-being in some people living with PD. The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the feasibility and safety of

[Changes in the skeleton of the middle foot caused by professional classical dancing].

UNLABELLED: On half and three-quarter points, the most frequent foot positions in dance, the metatarsals form an extension of the lower leg. In 54% of 56 professional male and female dancers whose feet were examined, this extraordinary stress leads to pronounced thickening of the cortex of the second metatarsal and in 6%, of the third metatarsal as well. There are no symptoms. Hypertrophy of the bone occurs in response to the additional stress imposed by dancing. Dancing on points is not the triggering factor, since male and female dancers are equally affected. COMPLICATIONS: Under intensive
