Gaucher disease (GD) is a genetic lysosomal disorder characterized by high bone marrow (BM) involvement and skeletal complications. The pathophysiology of these complications is not fully elucidated. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the gold standard to evaluate BM. This study aimed to apply machine-learning techniques in a cohort of Spanish GD patients by a structured bone marrow MRI reporting model at diagnosis and follow-up to predict the evolution of the bone disease. In total, 441 digitalized MRI studies from 131 patients (M: 69, F:62) were reevaluated by a blinded expert radiologist w

Digital health technology tools (DHTTs) present real opportunities for accelerating innovation, improving patient care, reducing clinical trial duration and minimising risk in medicines development. This review is comprised of four case studies of DHTTs used throughout the lifecycle of medicinal products, starting from their development. These cases illustrate how the regulatory requirements of DHTTs used in medicines development are based on two European regulatory frameworks (medical device and the medicinal product regulations) and highlight the need for increased collaboration between vari

Paediatric disorders of impaired linear growth are challenging to manage, in part because of delays in the identification of pathological short stature and subsequent referral and diagnosis, the requirement for long-term therapy, and frequent poor adherence to treatment, notably with human growth hormone (hGH). Digital health technologies hold promise for improving outcomes in paediatric growth disorders by supporting personalisation of care, from diagnosis to treatment and follow up. The value of automated systems in monitoring linear growth in children has been demonstrated in Finland, with

Background: Digital processing has enabled the development of several generations of technology for tinnitus therapy. The first digital generation was comprised of digital Hearing Aids (HAs) and personal digital music players implementing already established sound-based therapies, as well as text based information on the internet. In the second generation Smart-phone applications (apps) alone or in conjunction with HAs resulted in more therapy options for users to select from. The 3rd generation of digital tinnitus technologies began with the emergence of many novel, largely neurophysiological

In a world where digital technology has revolutionized the way we work, shop and manage our finances it is unsurprising that digital systems are suggested as potential solutions to delivering clinically and cost-effective care for an aging population with one or more long-term conditions. However, recent evidence suggesting that telehealth may not be quite the panacea that was promised, has led to discussions on the mechanisms and role of digital technology in respiratory care. Implementation in rural and remote settings offers significant benefits in terms of convenient access to care, but is

Remote rehabilitation, or telerehabilitation, has emerged as a scalable modality for delivering rehabilitative care outside clinical settings. Human Digital Twin (HDT) offers a promising paradigm for enabling personalized and adaptive telerehabilitation by continuously representing a patient's functional condition through digital technologies. Despite the growing interest in this field, current research still lacks a comprehensive understanding of how enabling technologies contribute to HDT-based telerehabilitation. This systematic review provides a technological perspective on telerehabilitat

Older adults' experiences with technologies and data are typically flattened amid a focus on the functionalities of "techno-fixes" for the "afflictions" of later life. In this paper, we challenge this narrow focus by presenting older adults' own understandings of and experiences with data. Reporting on an online qualitative survey with 70 older Canadians, we argue that rather than being passive agents amid datafication, older adults are agentively theorizing, tinkering with, and engaging with data and devices. Organizing our analysis around three thematic threads (data associations, affordance

Given their accessibility, cost-effectiveness, and scalability, digital health technologies (DHTs) are increasingly recognized as promising adjuncts to traditional smoking cessation approaches. To address the lagging evidence updates and lack of implementation pathways in existing guidelines, a multidisciplinary panel developed this guideline by systematically synthesizing current evidence on digital smoking cessation interventions. The development process adhered to the WHO Handbook for Guideline Development and the Chinese Principles for Developing/Revising Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment G

BACKGROUND: The Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 has disrupted TB care. We examine the effects of the war on people with drug-susceptible TB (PWTB) and health care worker (HCW) engagement with a digital adherence technology (DAT).
METHODS: We conducted a cluster-randomised trial of a DAT intervention in Ukraine. In the intervention arm, PWTB received a pillbox with a daily treatment reminder. Pillbox openings were captured real-time onto a platform, accessed by HCWs who could add manual doses where relevant. We compared DAT engagement in pre-, early-, and later-war periods.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is playing an increasingly prominent role in healthcare technology, particularly in patient monitoring and diagnosis. While AI offers significant benefits, it raises concerns about the patient-provider relationship and key care values. To mitigate these risks and align technology with societal values, experts stress the importance of user involvement in technology development. However, input from patients or nurses during AI development remains uncommon. The rapidly digitizing healthcare thus demonstrates a context where technological citizenship is not yet thrivin
