Eating Behaviours, Oral Hygiene, and Caries in a Population of Spanish Children with Divorced Parents: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Dental caries are a public health problem that is influenced by dietary habits. This cross-sectional study aimed to investigate the feeding and hygiene habits that divorced parents exercise over their children compared to non-divorced parents, and how this may influence the rate of caries in their children. The data of participants (n = 174) with an average age of 12.17 ± 2.04 years were examined to assess the mean decayed/missing/filled teeth (DMFT) index, and they were asked questions about their oral hygiene habits. At the same time, their parents answered the parental feeding style questio

Interrelations of maternal expressed emotion, maltreatment, and separation/divorce and links to family conflict and children's externalizing behavior.

Research has documented that maternal expressed emotion-criticism (EE-Crit) from the Five-Minute Speech Sample (FMSS) predicts family conflict and children's externalizing behavior in clinical and community samples. However, studies have not examined EE-Crit in maltreating or separated/divorced families, or whether these family risks exacerbate the links between EE-Crit and family conflict and externalizing behavior. The current study examined the associations between maternal EE-Crit, maltreatment, and separation/divorce, and whether maltreatment and separation/divorce moderated associations

Parental divorce as a factor in children's perception of human relationships: an analysis of human movement responses in the Rorschach test.

The subjects were 108 Swedish children between 10 and 12 years old, who constituted a divorce and a non-divorce group of 27 girls and 27 boys each. Rorschach Tests were administered individually and human movement responses were analysed. Non-divorce children perceived more cooperative and fewer hostile interactions than the divorce children. Responses containing figures engaged in hostile interaction were most common among divorce girls, whereas the divorce boys had difficulties in perceiving any interaction whatsoever. The different effect of parental divorce on the ability of girls and boys

A mediational model of the impact of marital conflict on adolescent adjustment in intact and divorced families: the role of disrupted parenting.

The present study was concerned with the development and testing of a structural equation model wherein the relation of interparental conflict to the adjustment problems of young adolescents is mediated through its impact on 3 aspects of parenting behavior: lax control, psychological control, and parental rejection/withdrawal. The model was tested separately on a sample of 46 young adolescents from intact families and a group of 51 adolescents from recently divorced families. The hypothesis that most of the relation between martial conflict and adolescent adjustment problems could be explained

The Long-Term Health Implications of Marital Disruption: Divorce, Work Limits, and Social Security Disability Benefits Among Men.

We provide new evidence on the long-term impact of divorce on work disability among U.S. men. Using data from the 2004 Survey of Income and Program Participation linked to U.S. Social Security Administration records, we assess the relationship between divorce and subsequent self-reports of work limitations and the receipt of federal disability benefits. The examination of self-reports and administrative records of medically qualified benefits provides dual confirmation of key relationships. We compare men who experienced a marital dissolution between 1975 and 1984 with continuously married men

Non-Residential Father-Child Involvement, Interparental Conflict and Mental Health of Children Following Divorce: A Person-Focused Approach.

Variable-centered research has found complex relationships between child well-being and two critical aspects of the post-divorce family environment: the level of non-residential father involvement (i.e., contact and supportive relationship) with their children and the level of conflict between the father and mother. However, these analyses fail to capture individual differences based on distinct patterns of interparental conflict, father support and father contact. Using a person-centered latent profile analysis, the present study examined (1) profiles of non-residential father contact, suppor

'Where We Can Breathe Together': Home Perceptions and Coping Strategies of Divorced Mothers Evacuated in Wartime.

The literature has extensively examined the outcomes of forced displacement worldwide. However, relatively few studies have explored its effect on divorced mothers. This qualitative longitudinal study examined the coping and home perceptions of 25 divorced mothers evacuated during the Israel-Gaza war (2023-2025). Based on two rounds of interviews approximately 1 year apart, it explored how divorced mothers navigated intersecting emotional, economic, and social stressors while managing family life under prolonged uncertainty. Using a hybrid thematic analysis informed by Lazarus and Folkman's st

The Association Between Divorce and Late-life Brain Health in a Racially and Ethnically Diverse Cohort of Older Adults.

INTRODUCTION: Divorce is a common life stressor that may impact late-life brain health. Literature evaluating the relationship of divorce with neuroimaging measures, including structural MRI and amyloid PET, is limited and mixed. METHODS: Using the Kaiser Healthy Aging and Different Life Experiences (KHANDLE) and Study of Healthy Aging in African Americans (STAR) datasets, we analyzed the association of history of divorce with MRI outcomes (n=664) including volumetric measures and white matter hyperintensities using linear regression models, and with PET outcomes (n=385), including standardiz

Effects of divorce and widowhood on subsequent health behaviours and outcomes in a sample of middle-aged and older Australian adults.

Marital disruption is a common life event with potential health implications. We examined the prospective association of divorce/widowhood with subsequent lifestyles, psychological, and overall health outcomes within short and longer terms using three waves of data from the 45 and Up Study in Australia (T1, 2006-09; T2, 2010; T3, 2012-16). Marital status and health-related outcomes were self-reported using validated questionnaires. Nine outcomes were examined including lifestyles (smoking, drinking, diet and physical activity), psychological outcomes (distress, anxiety and depression) and over

Associations between dementia staging, neuropsychiatric behavioral symptoms, and divorce or separation in late life: A case control study.

Dementia can be difficult for married couples for many reasons, including the introduction of caregiving burden, loss of intimacy, and financial strain. In this study, we investigated the impact of dementia staging and neuropsychiatric behavioral symptoms on the likelihood of divorce or separation for older adult married couples. For this case-control study, we used data from the National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center (NACC) Uniform dataset (UDS) versions 2 and 3. This dataset was from 2007 to 2021 and contains standardized clinical information submitted by NIA/NIH Alzheimer's Disease Resear

Predicting marital infidelity based on incompatible mental schemas and emotional divorce in women referring to counseling centers in Iran.

This study investigated the extent to which schema modes and emotional divorce predict marital infidelity among women seeking services at counseling centers in Urmia, Iran. Using a descriptive-correlational design, the target population included all women referred between 2023 and 2025. To minimize issues of missing or invalid responses, 231 women with reported communication difficulties and elevated risk of infidelity were recruited through voluntary sampling. Data were gathered using scales measuring attitudes toward infidelity, schema modes, and emotional divorce. Pearson correlations and s

Co-Parenting During Separation and After Divorce: Exploring Relational Aggression Towards the Former Romantic Partner and the Child(ren).

Hostile co-parenting can escalate during separation and divorce with significant ramifications on family relationships. The relational and private nature of this behavior can make it hard to document, study, and understand. The purpose of the present study was to determine how relational aggression targeting the co-parent (and former romantic partner), is associated with relational aggression targeting the parent-child bond. The sample consisted of 103 divorced/separated parents (45% fathers) who were co-parenting at least one child with their former partner (Mage years = 43.66, SD = 9.39). Pa

Alcohol Misuse, Marital Functioning and Marital Instability: An Evidence-Based Review on Intimate Partner Violence, Marital Satisfaction and Divorce.

Alcohol use is a primarily social behavior, and marriage is an important aspect of social relationships. This article reviews alcohol use and its impact on several facets of the marital relationship, including the impact of alcohol use on intimate partner violence (IPV), marital satisfaction, marital functioning, and divorce. There is considerable evidence of the role alcohol plays in IPV and recent research identifies moderators of the alcohol-IPV relationship. These include personality constructs, social pressure, marital satisfaction, and traits, such as hostility and impulsivity. Marital s

Personality growth after relationship losses: Changes of perceived control in the years around separation, divorce, and the death of a partner.

BACKGROUND: Previous research suggests that romantic relationships play a crucial role for perceived control. However, we know surprisingly little about changes in perceived control before and after the end of romantic relationships. METHODS: Based on data from the Socio-Economic Panel Study (SOEP), a nationally representative household panel study from Germany, we examined changes of perceived control in the years around separation from a partner (N = 1,235), divorce (N = 423), and the death of a partner (N = 437). RESULTS: Multilevel analyses revealed that external control beliefs were hig

Intervention for burnout and irrational beliefs in parents of couples seeking a divorce: A critical reflection of Igbo-African marital discord.

BACKGROUND: Looking at the sociocultural dimension of marriage in the sub-region of Nigeria like Igbo, parents allow their sons and daughters to marry so that they can have homes. The expectation is for them to have permanent homes. If there is anything contrary to that such as divorce, parents usually frown at it. To some extent, the psychological effects of it may be deeply rooted in parents who hear that their children are seeking a divorce. Given this reason, this study investigated the effect of rational emotive family health therapy (REFHT) on burnout and irrational beliefs in parents of

Mental health problems and marital disruption: is it the combination of husbands and wives' mental health problems that predicts later divorce?

BACKGROUND: Divorce has been established as an adverse social consequence of mental illness. There is, however, little research that has considered how the mental health of both spouses may interact to predict relationship disruption. The aim of the current study was to use data from a large population-based survey to examine whether the combination of spouses' mental health problems predicts subsequent marital dissolution. METHODS: Prospective analysis of data from a longitudinal national household survey. 3,230 couples were tracked over 36 months, with logistic regression models used to det
