Addition of the acetylcholinesterase inhibitor 1,2,3,4-tetra-9-hydroaminoacridine (THA) at 1-3 mM markedly reduced the neuronal cell loss that otherwise followed brief exposure of murine cortical cell cultures to 500 microM N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA). BACKGROUND: Imbalance in cardiac sympathetic tone causes prolongation of the QTc interval of the ECG. On the other hand, impairment of the parasympathetic control of the heart rate caused by anticholinesterase-anticholinergic combinations might also affect the cardiac sympathetic tone and hence the QTc interval of the ECG. The main purpose of the present study was to compare the effects of four anticholinesterase-anticholinergic combinations used for the antagonism of the neuromuscular block on the QTc interval of the ECG, heart rate and arterial pressure.

A rare case of WPW bigeminal pattern was recorded in a 53-year-old man. This electrocardiographic pattern occurred after 10 mg tensilon was given intravenously to suppress a supraventricular tachycardia. WPW bigeminal pattern was terminated after intravenous administration of 100 mg lidocaine and the occurrence of a PVB. We assume that tensilon inducing a vagal effect on the anomalous pathway and changes in the heart rate has caused WPW bigeminal pattern.

A 53-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital because of dropped head. Neurological examination showed no abnormality except for weakness of the neck extensor muscles. Muscle-specific tyrosine-kinase-antibody-positive myasthenia gravis (MuSK-MG) has emerged as a distinct entity since 2001. PURPOSE: To determine the associated factors of persistent diplopia after retrobulbar anesthesia.
SETTING: Strabismus Section, Department of Ophthalmology, Seoul Municipal Boramae Hospital, Seoul, Korea.
METHODS: A prism and cover test in the diagnostic positions of gaze, force-generation test, and forced-duction test were performed in 11 patients with vertical rectus overaction after retrobulbar anesthesia. BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Diagnosis of pharyngeal dysphagia caused by myasthenia gravis (MG) based on clinical examination alone is often challenging. Flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) combined with Tensilon (edrophonium) application, referred to as the FEES-Tensilon test, was developed to improve diagnostic accuracy and to detect the main symptoms of pharyngeal dysphagia in MG.
