Collagen/rGO/tannin hydrogels with a programmable biointerface for tunable electrical conductivity and antioxidant capacity in tissue regeneration.

Restoring the endogenous bioelectric field while simultaneously protecting healing tissue from mechanical and oxidative stress remains a major challenge for next-generation wound dressings. Here we present an interface-programmed collagen hydrogel that integrates dopamine-reduced graphene oxide (rGO-PDA), polyethylene glycol (PEG) and condensed tannins (TA) into a single supramolecular network. rGO-PDA provides electronic pathways; TA forges multivalent π-π and hydrogen-bond bridges that immobilize rGO within the fibrillar matrix, confer radical-scavenging capacity and compatibilized the organ

Electrically conductive and photocurable MXene-modulated hydrogel conduits for peripheral nerve regeneration: In vitro and in vivo studies.

Electroconductive biomaterials, as advanced nerve guidance conduits (NGCs), have shown great promise to accelerate the rate of peripheral nerve repair and regeneration (PNR) but remain among the greatest challenges in regenerative medicine because of frail recovery. Herein, we introduce injectable nanocomposite nerve conduits based on gelatin methacrylate (GelMa) and MXene nanosheets (MX) for PNR. Microstructural studies determine that the addition of MX increases the mean pore size of GelMa NH from 5.8 ± 1.2 μm to 8.4 ± 1.6 μm for the hydrogel containing 0.25 mg/mL MX, for example, leading to

Ultralow thermal conductivity and thermally-deactivated electrical transport in a 1D silver array with alternating δ-bonds.

We report the synthesis of a (TMA)AgBr2 (TMA = tetramethylammonium) crystal, which comprises inorganic anionic chains of -(AgBr2)∝- stabilized by columnar stacks of organic TMA cations with a periodic arrangement of shorter and longer Ag(i)⋯Ag(i) bonds, even though all the Ag(i) ions are chemically equivalent. The presence of two chemically non-equivalent bridging Br ions is attributed to the primary cause of such an unusual arrangement, as clearly visualized in the charge density plot of (TMA)AgBr2 extracted from the theoretical calculations based on density functional theory. Remarkably, we

Hybrid Electrically Conductive Hydrogels with Local Nerve Growth Factor Release Facilitate Peripheral Nerve Regeneration.

It is challenging to treat peripheral nerve injury (PNI) clinically. As the gold standard for peripheral nerve repair, autologous nerve grafting remains a critical limitation, including tissue availability, donor-site morbidity, immune rejection, etc. Recently, conductive hydrogels (CHs) have shown potential applications in neural bioengineering due to their good conductivity, biocompatibility, and low immunogenicity. Herein, a hybrid electrically conductive hydrogel composed of acrylic acid derivatives, gelatin, and heparin with sustained nerve growth factor (NGF) release property was develop

Laminate Design of Carbon-Fiber-Reinforced Resin Matrix Composites for Optimized Mechanical Properties and Electrical Conductivity.

Carbon fiber composites as pantograph slide materials are in the development stage, in which copper is the conductive phase, and the addition form and size need to be designed. Herein, the effects of the copper morphology, the size of the copper mesh on the performance, and the influence of the contact mode between the sliding plate and bracket on the temperature rise were compared and analyzed. The resistivity is 11.2 μΩ·m with the addition of 20 wt% copper mesh, a relative reduction of 91.77%. Importantly, the impact strength is increased by 14.19%, and the wear is reduced by 13.21%; hence,

Image-Based Evaluation of Irradiation Effects in Brain Tissues by Measuring Absolute Electrical Conductivity Using MRI.

Radiation-induced injury is damage to normal tissues caused by unintentional exposure to ionizing radiation. Image-based evaluation of tissue damage by irradiation has an advantage for the early assessment of therapeutic effects by providing sensitive information on minute tissue responses in situ. Recent magnetic resonance (MR)-based electrical conductivity imaging has shown potential as an effective early imaging biomarker for treatment response and radiation-induced injury. However, to be a tool for evaluating therapeutic effects, validation of its reliability and sensitivity according to v

A New Electrically Conducting Metal-Organic Framework Featuring U-Shaped cis-Dipyridyl Tetrathiafulvalene Ligands.

A new electrically conducting 3D metal-organic framework (MOF) with a unique architecture was synthesized using 1,2,4,5-tetrakis-(4-carboxyphenyl)benzene (TCPB) a redox-active cis-dipyridyl-tetrathiafulvalene (Z-DPTTF) ligand. While TCPB formed Zn2(COO)4 secondary building units (SBUs), instead of connecting the Zn2-paddlewheel SBUs located in different planes and forming a traditional pillared paddlewheel MOF, the U-shaped Z-DPTTF ligands bridged the neighboring SBUs formed by the same TCPB ligand like a sine-curve along the b axis that created a new sine-MOF architecture. The pristine sine-M

Self-Cleaning, Chemically Stable, Reshapeable, Highly Conductive Nanocomposites for Electrical Circuits and Flexible Electronic Devices.

Materials with multiple functions are highly desirable in practical applications. Developing multifunctional nanocomposites by a straightforward process is still a challenge. Here, a versatile nanocomposite has been developed by simple blending and pressing of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and modified polydimethylsiloxane (MPDMS). Because of the synergistic effect of MWCNTs and MPDMS, this nanocomposite exhibits outstanding hydrophobic property, striking self-cleaning capability, and excellent chemical stability against strong acid and strong base, which makes it possible to work unde

Electrical stimulation to conductive scaffold promotes axonal regeneration and remyelination in a rat model of large nerve defect.

BACKGROUND: Electrical stimulation (ES) has been shown to promote nerve regeneration when it was applied to the proximal nerve stump. However, the possible beneficial effect of establishing a local electrical environment between a large nerve defect on nerve regeneration has not been reported in previous studies. The present study attempted to establish a local electrical environment between a large nerve defect, and examined its effect on nerve regeneration and functional recovery. METHODOLOGY/FINDINGS: In the present study, a conductive scaffold was constructed and used to bridge a 15 mm sc

Electrical conductivity of tear fluid in healthy persons and keratoconjunctivitis sicca patients measured by a flexible conductimetric sensor.

BACKGROUND: It is known that the osmolarity of tears increases in keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS) patients and therefore could be a sensitive and specific indicator for the diagnosis of KCS. However, owing to the difficulties in using the current methods of tear fluid measurement these procedures have not been employed in clinical practice. A newly devised flexible conductimetric sensor fabricated using microelectronic techniques is small and flexible enough to be placed on the ocular surface to measure the electrical conductivity can be considered as an indirect function of electrolyte activ

CNT Localization and Network Formation in High-Performance PEEK/PEI Blends and Its Effect on Electrical Conductivity.

High-performance thermoplastics are gaining increasing attention for space applications. However, the extreme lunar environment requires multifunctional materials that combine electrical conductivity for electrostatic charge dissipation with low thermal conductivity for thermal insulation. One promising strategy to achieve this balance is through conductive polymer nanocomposites with controlled morphology. In this study, the localization, migration, and network formation of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in two-phase blends of polyetheretherketone/polyetherimide (PEEK/PEI) were systematically invest

Exploring the interplay of under-deposit corrosion and microbiologically influenced corrosion in the presence of deposits with varied electrical conductivities.

In oil and gas pipelines, the coexistence of native microorganisms with various solid compounds, such as corrosion products, scales, and reservoir sand, is well-established. However, research focused on understanding the collective impact of these components on carbon steel corrosion has been limited, with most studies concentrating on inert deposits like clay and sand. This study assessed the impact of electrically conductive deposits - magnetite (Fe3O4) and troilite (FeS) - on UDC and UDMC of carbon steel, employing silica (SiO2) as an inert control. A multifaceted approach, combining intern

In Situ Magnetoelectric Generation of miRNA Sponges and Wireless Electric Stimulus by Conductive Granular Scaffolds for Nerve Regeneration.

Electronic signaling and microRNA (miRNA) regulation play pivotal roles in determining neuronal cell fate and promoting brain recovery. Despite this, clinical advancements are hindered by the limited availability of tools for spatiotemporal electrical signaling and non-viral gene modulation in neurons in vivo. In this study, a conductive granular scaffold (cGRAS) that doubles as an antenna and neuronal gene delivery agent for targeted miRNA regulation of nerve repair in traumatic brain injury (TBI) is developed. The inherent features of granular scaffolds reduce the inflammation and glial scar

Significant Environmental Factors in the Drift of Electrical Properties in Conductive Nano-Composite Sensors for Biomechanical Motion-Tracking.

Wearable nanocomposite stretch sensors are an exciting new development in biomaterials for biomechanical motion-tracking technology, with applications in the treatment of low back pain, knee rehabilitation, fetal movement tracking, and other fields. When strained, the resistance of the low-cost sensors is reduced, enabling human motion to be monitored using a suitable sensor array. However, current sensor technologies have exhibited significant drift, in the form of increased electrical resistance, if left stored in typical room conditions. The purpose of the present work was to evaluate the i

Electrical Conductivity Characteristic of Polyimide under Long-Term Combined Electron Irradiation and Thermal Cycle in Vacuum.

During long-term operation, low-earth-orbit spacecraft are exposed to a severe environment of electron irradiation and thermal cycle. This affects the electric properties of polyimide, an essential insulation material for spacecraft electrical transmission equipment, particularly the conductivity characteristic. Therefore, this paper investigates the conductivity and its evolution of polyimide after the combination of 20 keV, 8 nA/cm2 electron irradiation, and 243-343 K, 5 K/min thermal cycle in a vacuum environment for 432 h. The results show that the conductivity increases by about 2 orders

Changes of in vivo electrical conductivity in the brain and torso related to age, fat fraction and sex using MRI.

This work was inspired by the observation that a majority of MR-electrical properties tomography studies are based on direct comparisons with ex vivo measurements carried out on post-mortem samples in the 90's. As a result, the in vivo conductivity values obtained from MRI in the megahertz range in different types of tissues (brain, liver, tumors, muscles, etc.) found in the literature may not correspond to their ex vivo equivalent, which still serves as a reference for electromagnetic modelling. This study aims to pave the way for improving current databases since the definition of personaliz

Effect of indomethacin on the electrical conductance and electrochemical voltammetry of copper chloride in methanol, ethanol, and their binary mixture with water.

This study investigated the physicochemical properties of the interaction of indomethacin and copper chloride using the electrical conductance measurement in methanol, ethanol, and their binary mixture with water at room temperature (298.15 K), to determine the solvation behavior, redox behavior, and kinetics. The association parameters were computed using the Fuoss-Hsia-Fernández-Prini and Fuoss-Shedlovsky models. The standard Gibbs energy for association (ΔGoA), Walden product (Λoηo), and hydrodynamic radii (RH) were calculated to study the interaction of indomethacin and copper chloride. On

Effect of anisotropy in myocardial electrical conductivity on lesion characteristics during radiofrequency cardiac ablation: a numerical study.

BACKGROUND: Traditional computer simulation studies of radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) usually neglect the anisotropy in myocardial electrical conductivity (MEC), which is likely an essential factor in governing the ablation outcome. Here, a numerical study of lesion characteristics during RFCA based on an anatomy-based model incorporating fiber orientation was performed to investigate the anisotropy in MEC. METHODS: A three-dimensional thorax model including atria, blood, connective tissue, muscle, fat, and skin was constructed. The myocardial fiber was established through a rule-bas
