Persistent sciatic artery is a rare developmental anomaly prone to atherosclerotic disease. We present a case of successful endovascular therapy for left persistent sciatic artery that was occluded at the distal site. The angioplasty was performed with both antegrade approach from contralateral common femoral artery and retrograde approach from ipsilateral superficial femoral artery. The guidewire was advanced via collateral channel and crossed through the lesion retrogradely. Rendez-vous technique was performed, and the lesion was successfully dilated by balloon inflation. Angioplasty of occl

Tumoral disease of the arteries is uncommon. It is possible that, in tumoral reoperations affecting cervical structures, periarterial fibrosis due to radiotherapy and previous surgery and metastatic adherences to the arterial wall makes radical surgery difficult. We present a case where the surgical treatment of a regional relapse from laryngeal neoplasm needed the removal of the common carotid artery and its reconstruction with autologous patent superficial femoral artery. Surgical technique included a PTFE graft interposition in the leg.

We present the case of a 50-year-old man who developed a delayed progressive swelling over the medial aspect of his right thigh, six weeks following minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) of a supracondylar femur fracture. Angiography showed a false aneurysm of the superficial femoral artery, caused by progressive displacement of a butterfly fragment. Open vascular repair was performed and the sharp edge of the butterfly fragment was removed.

Lateral femoral cutaneous nerve (LFCN) generally emerges from the pelvis behind the inguinal ligament (IL) to the thigh. Because of its proximity to the anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS) and hip joint, the LFCN is prone to injuries during various procedures. Anatomy of this nerve is highly variable among studies. Moreover, measurement data regarding its branches including the differences between genders and sides are still lacking. This study was, therefore, done to clarify these issues. Eighty-five thighs from 43 cadavers of both genders were dissected at the inguinal region. Distances fro

OBJECTIVE: Seroma formation after common femoral artery (CFA) exposure is a recognized complication in vascular surgery, associated with delayed wound healing and graft-related morbidity. Reported seroma rates following CFA exposure using standard electrocautery range from 5% to 15% for cases requiring operative reintervention. The LigaSure bipolar vessel sealing system has demonstrated efficacy in sealing lymphatic channels in other surgical specialties, but its safety and impact in vascular groin surgery have not been well-characterized. We evaluated the safety, feasibility, and postoperativ

IMAGE(S): Computed tomography, angiography, angioscopy, and intravascular ultrasound demonstrated late superficial femoral artery stent fracture with pseudoaneurysm formation.
CASE SUMMARY: An 83-year-old man presented with recurrent intermittent claudication 10 years after superficial femoral artery stenting. Imaging showed popliteal artery occlusion and a large pseudoaneurysm at the previously stented segment. Angioscopy demonstrated uncovered stent struts and direct visualization of the pseudoaneurysm cavity. Stent graft implantation excluded the pseudoaneurysm, and symptoms improved.

Percutaneous endovascular aortic aneurysm repair (PEVAR) with vascular closure devices is widely used as an alternative to surgical cutdown. While predictors of access-related complications, such as common femoral artery (CFA) calcification and increased depth, have been reported, excessively shallow common femoral arteries are not well recognized as a risk factor. We report an 82-year-old emaciated male (height 168 cm, weight 43 kg, body mass index 15.2) with a rapidly enlarging abdominal aortic aneurysm who underwent PEVAR using the Perclose ProStyle device (Abbott Vascular, Inc., Redwood Ci

BACKGROUND: The use of percutaneous arterial access for endovascular procedures has broad applications, from diagnostic angiography in the coronary and peripheral arteries, to thromboembolectomy in people with ischemic stroke and percutaneous coronary intervention in those with acute myocardial infarction. The rise of these procedures worldwide underscores the importance of obtaining precise and timely arterial access while minimizing the risk of adverse events. Traditionally, anatomic landmarks, such as the anterior superior iliac spine and symphysis pubis, have guided percutaneous common fem

Stent fractures of the peripheral arterial system are a documented phenomenon with the most common location being areas of high mobility such as behind the knee or groin. Concurrently, pseudoaneurysm formation of the superficial femoral artery is a rare complication most frequently linked to trauma, infection, or iatrogenic injury. We describe a unique case of a noninfectious, atraumatic, pseudoaneurysm of the superficial femoral artery after stenting. Previous reports have identified pseudoanerysmal degeneration from a stent fracture managed with open repair; however, management of these case

In vascular surgery, vascular anastomosis is a common reconstructive technique used to restore blood flow. However, anastomotic restenosis is a frequent postoperative complication, primarily caused by surgery-induced vascular injury, intimal hyperplasia, and inflammatory responses. The mouse femoral artery anastomosis model is widely used to investigate the mechanisms of anastomotic restenosis and vascular repair. Microscopically guided end-to-end femoral artery anastomosis allows precise simulation of vascular injury and repair processes following surgery, providing a reliable experimental to

Peripheral arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are rare vascular anomalies characterized by abnormal connections between arteries and veins that bypass the capillary system. This case report details a three-year-old female child who presented with an enlarging swelling on her knee's medial side. AVM was diagnosed using computed tomography (CT) angiography and surgically excised. The case highlights the importance of early detection and timely intervention of AVMs to prevent complications.

Case 1 and 2 Two young male patients, sustained injury to the superficial femoral artery (SFA) following a closed femur shaft fracture. The arterial injuries were confirmed by computed tomography angiography and both underwent fracture fixation and on SFA exploration; a thrombosed arterial segment was noted at the fracture site, addressed with arteriotomy and thrombectomy to restore the vascularity. At 1-year follow-up, both patients had good union at the fracture site and a well-perfused limb. Conclusion Thorough clinical examination and appropriate diagnostic studies can diagnose these rar

BACKGROUND: High bifurcation of the deep femoral artery (DFA) is rare in clinical practice, and patients with this variation are less likely to receive venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (V-A ECMO) treatment. Therefore, the method by which V-A ECMO is introduced in patients with vascular variation is very important.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 52-year-old male patient had ST elevation myocardial infarction due to coronary heart disease. Angiography showed tripartite coronary artery lesions, and coronary artery stenting supported by V-A ECMO was needed. Vascular evaluation before ECMO c

The Objective was to review the prevalence of femoral artery occlusion (FAO) after cardiac catheterization in children up to 12 years old from two centers in China and identify its related risk factors. After collecting clinical data from patients who had undergone pediatric cardiac catheterization, univariate and multivariate analysis were used to evaluate the correlations between FAO and clinical factors, including sex, age, height, weight, sheath size, operation time, therapeutic strategy, sheath/age, sheath/height and sheath/weight. The ROC curve was also used to assess the influence of ri

BACKGROUND: The use of directional atherectomy (DA) with or without drug-coated balloon (DCB) may be considered for the management of common femoral artery (CFA) occlusive disease because of its minimally invasive nature with early mobilization, reduced incision complications, and infection rates. However, it has recognized complications, which may be related to the learning curve. We present our initial experience using DA and suggest changes that may, based on our practice, improve outcomes.
METHODS: Retrospective analysis with a prospective data collection from 2 centers to analyze outcome

Orchiopexy for undescended testis is a standard procedure in pediatric patients. Intraoperative complications during orchiopexy are rare. Major complications reported include injury to vas deferens or testicular vessels, leading to testicular atrophy. Damage to the femoral artery has not been described in the literature as a complication during orchiopexy. In this report, we describe a case where injury to the right femoral artery leading to acute limb ischemia occurred while performing orchiopexy.
